Honestly you, Charles and and Liz must be the three loveliest gardeners on RUclips. What a treat to see all three of you on one video 🥰Also, planting garlic chives in my garden was one of the best things i ever did - have the normal kind too but the garlic ones are really special, and so pretty when they flower.
My Gma was an iris hybridizer and I just found out that she has 5 irises registered with the American Iris Society. The oldest was in 1956 and the most recent in 1976. I was bummed that there weren't any photos of the flowers and no one seems to be selling them. I guess I'd have to hybridize them myself to have some. 🤷♀️
Having done my no mow May I now know I have self seeded chives in my front lawn. I'm very happy about it actually, I prefer my front 'lawn' to have lots of diversity.
You are so spot on with the chives. I have chives growing wild. Thank you for spearheading your vid with it. I take your word with the irises. I plan to move a lot of sword irises in other locations. Cheers from Mid-Norway.
My chieves are a big failure this year. My pumpkins I have to sew twice but now they are looking so healthy. Iris I have lots of in my pond. A few days ago I started my pickles and golden beatroot. In a few days I am going to sew cale and purple sproiting broccoli.
Thank you Niall, I so enjoy hearing from my favorite gardeners;, You, Liz and of Charles. You all have inspired me to try different method of gardening and also encouraging me to try different types of plants. None of this would ever happened , but your videos that are so informative and easy to follow instructions on how to start and succeed. Thank you again and may you have a fantastic JUNE.
With butternut squashes remove the flower heads until the plant is large enough to support growing squashes and growing bigger itself. Let the plant fruit too early and all the energy goes into producing one butternut squash. Doing this gives me bigger plants that produce a dozen plus butternut squashes instead of one or two squashes per plant. (variaty Harrier)
Love your choices. I have huge beds of iris from pure white, yellow, peach, pale lavender solid purple, purple stripe and brown. Original purple were from my Grandmother planted in the 1940's. Always brings a smile to my face. In Texas we divide iris in July. Garlic chives are to strong or harsh and I have a patch about 8ft square and spreading. I have given to any and everyone for years. Takes my breath away when I mow over them. ha ha Love your Bird of Paradise shirt. Have a great week.
I sowed my winter squash already and it's starting to get true leaves. There was a yellow iris in the corner of my yard I divided this year and I keep trying to start chives but the transplants didn't do well in spring so I'll keep trying that. I hadn't planned on beets but I'll consider that and check out the other flower. I like the sound of a little green through winter.
Great video Niall, yes will be planting all those except have already done squashes as new to Ireland and thought the season might be shorter. Totally agree with comment on Seeds Ireland, have had great germination rates which have produced healthy veg and flowers. I grow in quite a large area at home and at work. Thanks for video
I just found some garlic chives seeds at the store, very excited to sow them around my heirloom tomato bed! My winter squash is coming on well, and is going in the ground soon. And thanks for the reminder to get my bienniel flower seeds going, I almost forgot! I don't have room for them in the garden this year, hopefully they'll be ok overwintering in pots!
Well Niall,I must say I really enjoyed that video, great recommendations, I did get some iris's from friends, whoohoo they flowered this year, love them, a separate flower keeps coming out from one stalk. Have the fox gloves too, live them too. Yes to honesty, wall flowers, and 100% yes to chives, live it, I even just pick and live it for the smell. I must start actually using it as a food. Great to see Liz and Charles both amazing people and fantastic hardeners with an abundance of knowledge. Niall your garden is looking absolutely beautiful it's enjoying the beautiful weather. Thanks for a really cheery video.
Added suggestion for Bearded iris is to let people know there are varieties for early, mid and late. I have many types in my 1/3 acre garden. East Vancouver Island, BC., Canada.
Good morning Niall, hope you're well. Thanks for your knowledge once again, still pricking seedlings out but getting there, sunflower pants are growing nicely, already the bigger plants are in the garden. Conifers are cut now so they're nice and tidy, well have to dash, time for church ,bit cooler and cloudy today after 22 deg yesterday and hot sunshine over last week ,bye for now stay safe happy gardening 😊
Morning Niall, lovely choices for June. Divided my bearded irises last year and they are doing well. Off to the greenhouse later to get sowing some foxgloves and pansies also some more veg.
Amazing suggestions, as usual, Niall! :D I didn't use to be able to choose things for my garden based on beauty and ornamental properties. Now I have plenty of space for all sorts of things. My foodie heart still likes the edibles the best though.
Can you please talk about the season rather than the month? Here in New Zealand I'm not planting those. It's almost winter solstice so I'll plant garlic soon
Lovely video thank you. I grow foxgloves every year but mat try chives and honesty this year after seeing this video. Can I ask what the yellow plant is growing with your chives please
@@LouciferFlump I don't know. I'm in Colorado, which doesn't get much rain. We also have heavy clay. In my grow bags, they flower nicely. In the ground without irrigation, they have lived multiple years but have only flowered this year because we got unusual amounts of rain. Otherwise they usually look weedy and don't flower. How much rain do you get?
Hi Angela, beans don't like growing next to the allium family as the roots give off something that stunts the growth of bean plants. I hope that helps!
@angela mcgadden Oh oh that may be why my beans haven't been growing properlyll. I usually have no trouble. They emerge from the soil but don't grow to a decent size
Thanks for watching! ❤What do you think of my choices? What are you growing right now?

Idd! Huw also!

I love your beautiful chive patch & will be sowing the seeds ❤
I have Purple irises growing near the pound and loads of chives dotted around the garden.
Thanks Niall, great recommendations. I'm going to split and rehome some chives around the garden.

Great video. Look forward to your choices every month. Many thanks. Off to get the beetroot in!

Wonderful wonderful video Niall! I was taking notes throughout.
Those chives flowers are beautiful and would make a great border

You're making me feel real good about the free irises I was given at my local arboretum!
Wonderful selections everyone 🍃🌸🍃
Getting ready to plant veggies here in Planting Zone 5A, Gander Canada!
This was wonderful, Niall. Thank you! Have a good week, DA
Wow, those irises are stunning! I'm sure I have a good friend who might split a clump for me 😜

Great range of ideas, Niall. Thanks 👍💐🍈💐🍈💐👍

Collaborating with Charles Dowding 🔥 Great video as always Niall!
Could you give us more information on iris? When to plant and the different types?
I don’t know much about them
Can you please talk about the season rather than the month? Here in New Zealand I'm not planting those. It's almost winter solstice so I'll plant garlic soon
Love the suggestions Niall I've done the normal alliums and I love them, fab vlog 🥰
Great list Niall! I see you replaced your turf for landscape fabric in your raised bed area. What is your opinion on using it? Great video!
You should get garlic chives there flower in the late summer early fall and make great edible plants to.
Nice
Lovely video thank you. I grow foxgloves every year but mat try chives and honesty this year after seeing this video. Can I ask what the yellow plant is growing with your chives please
Inspirational stuff Niall!
Love your garden
Iris’s seem to be the one to grow this year…. Do you think I am too late if I plant now?
How long does it take for chive to flower from seed?
In Liz's section, what is the purple spire type flower in the background?
Looks like Lupins to me. Possibly a variety called "The Governor"
Chives are hard to kill. That makes them nice.
I bought some once and they just stayed weedy-looking, never thickened up or flowered. Is it coz I’m on heavy clay..? 🤔

I know this is not what the video is about, but what [kind of] hedge is behind you?
I love foxgloves tho they don't like me 😅
Are there any plants that don't like living with chives onion & garlic? Thank you
