Big onion fan! Unfortunately it is too cold / frozen ground still, so any sowing happens indoors. In fact, as I speak, we're in the middle of a 12inch snow storm.

I love patron peppers! They are amazing, I am also growing Shishito peppers, which are quite similar and have really thin walls, and are AMAZING stuffed with a little bit of hallumi and grilled 😋

We just had a heavy pouring rain. Going thru my garden seeds now. Onions, leeks, beets, greens and some spring bulbs ready to plant. Can't wait. Hope to see your flowering Princess soon. Have a great week.
Great to see you. A little off topic but here in Bangor N.I, I’ve been growing a lemon tree for three years. It is in my kitchen/ conservatory and is now constantly producing massive lemons. My visitors, one from Spain, all think it is fake.
Is your conservatory heated in the winter?
@@christinamoxon it certainly is. It would be 20 degrees in winter although this particular tree survives up to minus ten. It spent the first year in the greenhouse
No way! That's super that you've got your own lemon tree and especially because it's producing fruit - you're obviously doing everything just right!

@@chrisgartenn I’m trying to remember if I potted it up with ericaceous soil but honestly can’t remember. I feed it every 5/6 weeks or so.

I'm a bit colder than you and sow my onions in February. But it is lovely to be talking gardening again! Fingers crossed I don't lose any roses in the artic blast we're about to get!

Excellent video! It was you who inspired to grow my first sweet peas last year & I loved them so much.i planted a whole bunch more last autumn, which are currently resting safely in a cold frame. So thank you very much for that 😊
Just sowed my Padron peppers on Saturday! First time trying these so looking forward to seeing how they do here in southern England 😊
Hope you enjoy them! I found them really quite easy to grow - treat them exactly the same as a standard chilli pepper and you should have success!

In my area across the big pond in New England, I plant Onion Seed sometime between Feb1st-15th. Usually 5 or so varieties. I ahve some videos on RUclips of Starting Onion Seeds, Harvest, and Making the onion braids, for storing.
I did padron last year, and it was so satisfying, as we actually ate most of them! Normally, you take care of chilis for months and months, and end up eating just a handful. I will definetely grow padron again. I haven't had the roulette experience yet, has someone here had a hot one?
Well... funny you should say that!... last year almost ALL of mine ended up being spicy which is so odd! I think the batch of seed I had were of the wrong variety! 😂

Morning Hazel! 👋 Happy new year to you too! Lovely to hear how everything is getting on in your garden. It's been the same here - incredibly wet and the garden is pretty soggy. At least where I am we're now due bright, dry, but cold weather for a while. Take care!

Padrón peppers are delicious and originated from Padrón in Galicia. However, you should also try the piparrak from Ibarra, which are originally from the Basque Country and are enjoyed grilled or pickled. They are used to make one of the most typical Basque pintxos (tapa): Gilda. I would love to send you some seeds so you can try them ;-)

I was out today, as it began to snow, putting sticks in the beds to stop the cats from the neighbours using the bare bits of soil. Think I'm going to cover it in perennials and forego anything edible. Cats are an absolute menace here.

3:40 I bought one of that sweet box a few years ago coz I was told it smells gorgeous. It stinks. 🤮🤮🤮 I wanted to chop it down but then I was told it may be good for the early bees coz it flowers so early, then I decided to keep it. It has definitely survived all the hot, the cold, the rain, the drought, everything and it looks pretty from the distance as long as I can't smell it. Early pollinators are definitely on the top of my list, smell isn't so I was like yeah, whatever... 😂
Aw no! Sounds like other plants such as Viburnum where some people smell a horrible smell from the plants instead of perfume. I adore the scent of Sarcacocca! I love that you've kept the plant though because it really is fab for early and winter pollinators, so good on ya!
Oh, really? That's actually comforting to me, as I can't grow them in my zone, and I'm so jealous, and curious. Now I can keep telling myself that I don't want them anyway. 😆

Off topic but what is the hedge behind you / to the left of you in the veg garden (with the copper leaves)? Is it beech?
My favorite pepper is shishito and it sounds wildly similar, down to the percentage of spicy ones 😂

Thanks for the upload Niall. I started sewing "bought" carrot seedlings the last two years and all I get is mutations with two or three short stumpy carrots which never grow long, even though I separated the seedlings, could you tell me what I am doing wrong, as I do separate the seedlings before sewing, thanks in advance Niall?
From my experience carrots do better when direct sown into the ground that they'll be growing in. Disturbing the roots, even as a seedling can lead to them being stumpy or mis-shapen. My other consideration would the soil... if it's heavy, stony or hard the roots will be more likely to hit resistance, branch or mutate. They like a very fine, open soil. Hope this helps!

Your peppers sound and look like Shishitos. Maybe it’s just a different name.
