    Thank you for the suggestions, will have to seed some sweet peas now!
    Just one thing about the bulbs, because I know you will care: a lot of bulbs are grown in the Netherlands and unless they're grown organically, they are likely to have a lot of pesticides. Tulips and lilies are among the most sprayed crops in the country. Even if those pesticides don't make it into your flowers, they will have an impact on insect biodiversity in the Netherlands (because they are made for killing 'bugs'). So it's worth promoting organic bulbs instead. Thanks!

      This is actually such a good point and I have to confess it's nothing something I've properly considered before. Thank you writing about it so eloquently because I really do think it's worth considering. I'm going to do my research!

      AFAIK, the main organic insecticide, copper sulfate, is actually a LOT more toxic than synthetic pesticides. Simply being organic doesn't mean it's better for the environment.

    Happy November Niall, I do enjoy your videos. In two decent sized blue ceramic outdoor pots I have layered all yellow sping bulbs. Daffodils (Rijnveld's Early Sensation and Dutch Master), Tulip 'Yellow Emperor' and Crocus yellow on top. In 2 more brown ceramic containers again of decent sizes, I have a mix of pink Tulips 'Finola Bulbs' and Blue 'Muscari Armeniacum bulbs' (which is the Magenta Magic Collection from Framer Gracy).

Winter is here now with cold days and frost. Highs are 4C and lows to -1C. I live on Vancouver Island BC Canada. Also Known as the Pacific west coast.

    Great information from Liz as usual. I share her problem with mice, the little troublemakers. What I've found that also works is to take the lid off one of those waist high garbage cans and then put a flat surface on top of it as a table for seed starting. As long as it has slippery sides with a slight angle I have found that mice cannot make it up the sides and then it can go back to its life as a garbage can when your done

    Morning Niall, great "November " video, really informative. I've already done my sweet peas for overwintering but I've also tried honesty, allium, clematis and a plant called silla I think? They've all managed to germinate and get above the compost so it's just a case of monitoring and care over winter. I have them indoors on a south facing windowsill here in Liverpool uk. Keep you updated, thanks for the great videos 🌳🌻🍂🌱👍

    hi Naill! great video! great tip from Liz to keep those pesky mice away! will have to try to get some planted this weekend in the poly tunnel!
    not doing seeds much now but still got lots of bulbs to plant. was tempted to get some inside to force them out early just in case the mice or rabbits kindly dig them up or munch on them!
    already planted lots of different allium bulbs around the outside of my poly tunnel a out a month ago so quite excited to see how they do as mixed them up a bit!
    howsthe orchard been for you this year? ours is still producing apples and currently got 85 litres to turn into cider and 20 litres of oear cider for next year or xmas!

    • @niallgardens
      @niallgardens  2 года назад

      It's a great tip of Liz's isn't it! The orchard has gone INSANE this year! We have so so many apples, but the problem is that they're almost all cooking apples and neither of us like apple cider (pear cider on the other hand... yum!) so most end up getting given away or composted!

      At this time of year, assuming your climate is similar to mine, I think I'd be planning to sow them under cover rather than direct. Saying that, you could try Fox and Cubs sown direct since it often likes getting that period of cold before germinating
