- You asked, so we are answering! How do you input relative or absolute coordinates? By using brackets!!
Check out the video as Aaron walks you through the finer points and gets your bracket game coordinated.

That's new to me and just a few moment ago I noticed that if you select the Tape Measure Tool and hover over any point then its coordinates will appear in the Measurements Value box
Thanks Aaron!
This is actually awesome to know!! As a machinist everything revolves around Absolute and Relative X,Y,Z so this makes some processes easier to perform. What's also great and I don't think it was specifically mentioned.....you can use this relative and absolute feature with MOVE TOOL not just line drawing tool. This means very precise placement of objects.
Thanks. I've been using Sketchup for many years and I didn't know one could enter coordinates!
I never knew about coordinate input in Sketchup. Brilliant. Thanks
Brilliant! I'll definitely be using that feature. Question: is there a way of finding out the coordinate of a point that already exists?
Quite a relief for old-school cad'ers. Thnx!;-)
Short and simple, but useful. I didn't know that before. Thank you. Something I would like to see is drawing multiples. In the past, I have seen you draw some geometry, then you type x5 (for example) and there are 5 more of them. For me at least, this would be helpful to understand. When and how can I use x multiplier and when can I not use it?
If you want to make copies of an object ,you need to use the move tool, copy the object then type 5x and you ll get 5 copies
@@nigelmendonca brilliant, thank you. I just tried it and it works.
That was almost what I need what I need is to know how to read where my coordinates are so that I know where I’m at
This is very usefull for me to place my 3D model to the correct location same as with 3D model from other software i used.
amazing sir i have some request that i want to see in sketchup 2024
- integrating ambiant occlusion in the style panel
- having the ability to use different color for the tag folder
- in layOut we have to be able to group layer (layer folder )
- in the solide tool panel a think it will be nice if we have a tool that separate the wall to groups at any 90 degres angle
-In LayOut i think we should have the blending mode like multiply so that if we stack views.....
thank so much as always keep doing the good stuff that you are doing @sketchup @sketchup lovers
Great ideas, but RUclips comments is not the ideal place to put in enhancement requests. Head over to our forum (forums.sketchup.com) where we have a whole seciont of the forum dedicated to Enhancement Requests.
i think this is the same question as gusbert (above) but can we also START the line segment using coordinates or MUST it be started with a mouse click?
Another great tutorial Aaron. Thank you! You just have to know this... [ ] < >... 🙃 A nice addition to my knowledge of SU.
Is there a way to tell where your cursor is in absolute or relative space?
Can be use to move to a specific coordinate?
Thank you very much
Great video as always !
Question : Speaking of coordinates, after drawing a house (for example) and I want it oriented correctly with respect to the sun. Let's say at 132º E
How to do ? Without messing up all the axes of the objects.
Thank you.
Select your house and use Rotate!
New one to me too, been using since version 6
Can you move the start point of a line anywhere using coordinate input?
Really new to me, where did that come from? Thanks.
Hello, maybe something different but partially also regarding coordinates: I am using bezier spline for creating wires/hoses/cables...but controlling the movement of a curved line in 3d space (diagonally up/down/forward backward) among other objects it shouldn't collide with is really hard work lasting hours (I think it's OK, then I orbit the view and see that the curve is going completely differently than I wanted).... is there a way to do it more elegantly? thank you.
Are all the drawing tools capable of coordinate input?
Does this feature work only in mac version?
This doesn't work in the free version!
So, the Red axis is "X", the Green axis is "Y" and the blue axis is "Z", in that order, correct?
Yes!
Wow, had I known that it would have saved me SOOO many headaches trying to figure out which way to input rectangle coordinates.
The more grey-haired users having flashbacks to programming in Logo at school... :D
I got that flashback
