  • With Bradley Beal being traded from the franchise this summer, the Wizards were left without a franchise cornerstone, and fans were left wondering who would be the next guy for Washington. Many thought it could be Jordan Poole, an exciting young guard who they traded for in the Summer, and who was an integral piece of the Warriors title in 2022 at just 22 years old. However, his first year in Washington has been an abject disaster, with his points dropping from 20 to 15 per game, and shooting just 40% from the field and 30% from deep. He also has the worst VORP, which stands for value over replacement player, in the entire league at -1.4. Maybe their next guy could be Kyle Kuzma, who’d been a top-3 player in Washington for a couple years. He’s been solid this season, averaging 22, 6, and 4 while shooting 46% from the field. He’s a really solid player, and many teams wanted him at the deadline, but he’ll never be the best player on a competitive team. It turns out the true next guy for Washington was there all along, and a guy that the team drafted themselves 9th overall in 2020. That would be Deni Avdija, a 6’9 small forward out of Israel. He’s been with the team for four years now, but had become kind of a forgotten rotational piece around the league, and had only started about 50% of his games. At the beginning of this season, a lot of people likely would’ve have said he was a disappointment considering his draft position. But he’s been much improved this year, and like Kuzma, drew a lot of interest from good teams at the deadline. For the season, he’s averaged 14 points and 7 rebounds per game on really good shooting splits, with 52% from the field and 41% from three. But the breakout has come as of late, as we’re fresh off of a 43-point outing in his last game. Over the last four games now, Deni has averaged 28 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 4 assists while shooting 62% from the field and 50% from deep. It looks like he’s becoming the best player on the Wizards, and emerging as the cornerstone guy they’ve been looking for. He’s an incredible rebounder for the three spot, a solid to good defender, and if the scoring can keep up then he’s just an incredibly well-rounded, high-impact player. Deni Avdija is the future of the Washington Wizards.
    Think about subbing, I'm on the road to 13k!!!

    Solid to good defender ? He is an outstanding defender and that is backed up with numbers and on top he is always assigned to the offensive star of the opposite team and that includes a variety of attackers he could take.

    deni will never be a regular 40 point player in the evening, he will be a team player who does a little bit of everything and especially makes the team better, even today he is considered the best defender in the Wizards statistically, a kind of Scotty Pippen

    Won't forgot how warrior fans/media told me Jordan Poole would lead league in scoring this year. They thought he'd be 25 a game and being solid with Wiz.

      I agree he’s a very good defender and the best on the team. Curious what metric you’re using for him to rank 9th in the league though. Defensive rating, DBPM, OFG%???

    Deni is awakening like Corey Kispert did last year. For me Deni is not yet the superstar level but he’s on his way. If he’s working harder and harder, in 2026 and the following years he will be one step before the superstar level.

    Deni is a perfect fit for the Spurs.
    Amazing defense and a very good offensive player, pair him up with Wembi and you get a cery exciting young duo, I really wish they could land him on the Spurs somehow.

      Yo I'm just starting to watch basketball so I'm interested to see why you think he would be perfect on the spurs, of course wemby is a variable but isn't the only reason

    • @MrBlazer688
      @MrBlazer688 4 месяца назад

      @@Ben-hb8oi the Spurs us a very defensive and team-play oriented team (atleast under popovich), and Deni fits the template, he is a very good defender, his fundumentals in defense are very good ( footwork and body positioning, as well as understanding opponents weak side and driving them into those positions), he is a team player, always on the lookout for the ipen man, as evidence you can look up his hocky assist number(an assist for an assist) ,he is not forcing shots.
      In my opinion this is just what the Spurs are looking for in players they bring.

    Wizards are a garbage team. Avdija has no future in such a team. What a waste. He should try to get traded to a contender team where he can contribute and maybe win something.
