EastEnders would be incapable of producing such understated scenes today, scenes containing pathos and realism. These days the show is an over acted pantomime, with only Ian, Dot and Sharon to remind us of the good old days.
Not realistic that since Lou Beale made a list of who was invited and who banned, she would have allowed Pat to be at her funeral. Didn't Lou hate Pat for the whole paternity drama over Simon and turning Pete and his brother Kenny against each other through her affair with Kenny when she was married to Pete?! The beginning of 'Ender's illogical writing...
Euro-African Lou specifically sought her out to make peace the day before she died. It was what Lou said that finally convinced Pat to tell Simon who his real dad was.
Liz Bryant you're clearly a better EastEnder fan than me! That makes sense but wasn't made clear that they had reconciled. But these days the writing's even worse.
Kris Ford again not made clear it you didn't see that particular episode. Should have been mentioned. Pat could have said something like "So glad she forgave me for everything before she went." But nothing is said like this at all. They built up Lou's hatred for Pat over the first few years and then resolve it in one single episode. Silly.
bldali this was about July 1988. The writers were probably still mulling over things cos the actor David Scarboro had only died in April. Todd Carty took over in 1990 and it was explained Mark had been abroad I think
Back then they could get away with the illusion as the tubes were all silver. Since they have all been replaced by newer colourful tubes it's harder to get away with now.
No It was very rare to see a train on the bridge, usually as a tribute to a character or on special occasions as the special effect cost the BBC a lot of money I think it was the first time a train had actually been seen rather than just heard
No, it was the first time the BBC had used that effect on the show because in reality there is no train line up there. It reportedly cost at the time 'an arm and a leg, but old Lou was worth it.'
Pete crying at his mothers funeral is by far the best and most natural piece of acting in Peter Dean’s career.
When EastEnders was EastEnders great characters great acting
I'll second that
Exactly the first 5 years were fantastic.
very true, i can't stand to watch the new episodes, they are awful
Lou Beale was the godmother of eastenders
'Yer mummy's only gone to the little old lady's room.' 😂😂
That is Very true. The Old Eastenders were the Best Eastenders, always will be. Ian, Dot and Sharon are the ones left apart from Phil Mitchell
ben croft Phil Mitchel didn’t join until 1994 so he isn’t an original character from 1985
@@life_seeker6102 1990 phil joined not 1994
So many of this cast has passed on . Pauline , Ethel, big Ron and uncle to name but a few
3:33 The first time a train was seen going over the bridge. The train was filmed near BBC TV Centre and added digitally.
Digitally? In 1988? There was no such resource available to the BBC.
@@DeepScreenAnalysis Yes. It was patched in by the BBC electronic workshop.
Should of made it Ivor the engine
I remember watching this episode .
Never thought i'd see Dot holding a Willy.😆

Amen to that 🙂
Now Dot has permanently left which is very sad.
Totally agree
@@xaoc6084 June brown who played dot is in her 90’s and is nearly blind
@@Suelovesboo I mean I'm not disputing that but it still shows an end of an era.
The funeral reminded me of my great Aunty Ann’s last year.
Auntie Flo told Pauline off for calling Lou 'Lou' instead of Louise? Why's she known as 'Flo' then? It should be Auntie Florence!
Good point!
And at the funeral it’s Louisa.
Probably like my Nan. One uncle is Tony, the other Andrew. Woe betide anyone who said Antony or Andy 🙄
Poor Lou she originally died in 2013

Last time, it was in use was when Billy was living there not so long ago.
Does anyone know what the tune is called that was played as the coffin was being brought into the church?
It's "I Know That My Redeemer Liveth" from Handel's Messiah.
I can't believe Mark wasn't there!

Where was Ethal? I'm amazed she didn't turn up.
Ethel is there she's sitting next to Dot
Frank referring to Colin as "Clause 28" 🤦♂
Aww that's a pug in Dot's arms
Domine Wimbury it belonged to Ethel
Is that train real?

When eastenders was great
1988?
You asked in 2011, now in 2019 I can confirm that, yes this was 1988.

@dlk1dlk1 yes

Not slushy but objective 😮
