    I have the Prime bookshelf but I paired them with a SB2000 sub so bass isn't an issue. I'm crossing over at 80Hz and it's smooth with no audible bump or drop in tone or volume. Perfect pair.

    That was an extensive and thorough review commentary Terry. I completely agree with you in that it seems likely that the Prime elevation 'Bookshelf' speakers are intentionally designed to work in concert with at least one sub-woofer in a Home Cinema application. It would be great to get a sound demo comparison of the Prime Elevation vs. Klipsch & Wharfadale speakers in this shootout. Thanks.

    I had these, the klipsch 600 and the elac b6.2, I AB’d them for around 3 weeks for mostly home cinema. I ranked them klipsch 3rd, elac 2nd and the SVS first. As mentioned in the review these were the closest to that commercial cinema sound, clean, direct and dynamic

    I appreciate your description of them as revealing and transparent. I have the powered wireless pro version (4 50watt amps) and they are fantastic. (might have a bigger mid driver than these) As you note the base is tight and detailed , with mids and highs really wonderful. I find the whole range coherent and musical. At first I did wwonder if they'd break up, because they are crisp and detailed, but it has never happened - just big clear sound.
    On the cool side, I had a pair of B&W floorstanders, and they just hurt with the treble and while crisp, they brought little joy.On the other end of the spectrum, I tested the SVS next to the Q M20s and found those warm but veiling, and the bass was more a bloom than a tactile thing. Highway to Hell becomes Highway to Whatevs. Though I will say, femaile voices were beautifully rendered.
    Being revealing and detailed has means a bad recording sounds bad, but anything competent is a joy, and you feel you're hearing everything without an engineer making decisions for you. I'm fine with them alone, but I will be looking into a micro sub, because they're such a fine foundation to build on.

Maybe I should take the prime series more seriously after your review. I will run them in parallel with a pair of Elac Debut Reference speakers connected to my Denon DRA-800H Receiver at the rear of my Basement Studio that I created during the COVID hibernation of 2020. I also have a separate Integrated Amp IOTA SA3 and Emotiva A300 Amp to drive 2 pairs of bookshelf speakers- Elac Debut 6.2s and Fluance Signature Series Surround HiFi Bookshelf speakers in the front of the room. I use the Studio ( really just a finished basement), to listen to My Music and to play my resurrected pleasure of playing drums after a hiatus of 50 Years. • @jtee9548
    @jtee9548 4 года назад +1

    Very thorough review. Sir, most people in this price range won't have Dirac. Also that "matter-of-fact" midrange and "zippyness" from the tweeter may be an issue for some. When you corrected with Dirac at the top end, and recommend putting on the grills to tone it down you might have suggested to some that the SVS may be unforgiving on compressed, lower rez or just plain crappy recordings. We used to get customers with old '70s music on CD complaining that it sounded harsh and/or shrill. Audio sourced from phones could be frustrating as well, with the customer adamant that iTunes was as good or better than CD quality in all cases, sometimes we'd get lucky and have a better version of the same music or we'd show them different tracks from iTunes that sounded much better. I'd burn those speakers in for 80-100 hours, the treble may soften a tad and the bass warm up just a bit. A magazine review (in the U.S.) of the SVS tower speakers noted this exact symptom. I would have asked that you audition them with some two channel gear, priced to match. Someone spending mid 600's on bookshelf speakers isn't going to have 2, 3, or 4 thousand in an integrated amp, about the same in a CD/SACD player and another six grand in a music server/streamer/DAC. An audition with all of the speakers you mentioned with perhaps an entry level NAD integrated amp and CD player (or whatever you suggest in that price range) would be lovely. Perhaps a laptop with a cheap DAC instead of the CD if you'd like. The problem with that is if you use hiRez sources and people expect everything to sound like that, that's why I like using a CD player as a source. Well done

    • @PursuitPerfectSystem
      @PursuitPerfectSystem  4 года назад

      I think for this group test I wanted to push the speakers as much as I can so using the best system I can made sense to remove the system as a limitating factor.
      Its impossible for a reviewer to predict how someone else's system will sound with the prime speakers because the potential variables are wildly different so I think its a losing battle trying to go that route.
      Me mentioning that I preferred the sound with the grills on is not related to material or source quality its just how I preferred the speakers overall sound and its maybe something someone can try if they listen to the speaker and think the same as me.
      Dirac is a different thing altogether as it provides me with a level of setup consistency and measurement and that allows me to hear past my room much better than without it and isolate what the hifi is doing better. A lot of potential customers of the prime speakers will have access to dirac within AV electronics from Arcam and NAD or miniDSP so its available at not crazy money :)
      Thanks for watching and for the detailed comments I enjoyed reading them :)

    It's a party speaker--which is great if that's what someone wants. Smooth frequency response? I get a 7 - 8 db. rise at ~1.5 kHz that drops back off around 2.5 kHz, confirmed by others' measurements, and which is a common feature in speaker models of this type, but more extreme than average. It gives a nice open definition in the sound to compare to when listening as someone pushes an A/B comparison switch briefly, but other than for selling speakers and powering rock 'n roll, it doesn't represent an especially accurate reproduction of a signal. They're just fun to play with.

      You can get away with it if you load the speaker with room gain - but then you have to factor in bass management

    So I have the ultras and I have a avr that only outputs 75w per channel. Do u think I would benefit in sound quality by getting an amp with 200w per channel or would it just make it louder because its already plenty loud.
