P.S.S. For the newbies, I would suggest starting out with a basketball and then work up to a 6lb ball. Don’t go to 10lb unless they have truly strong core or else they will injure themselves. No need in hurting their knees, back or shoulder with using the wrong equipment to start out. Basketball is sufficient!
I couldn't agree more! Gradual progression is key to injury prevention. Not only will your joints adapt to the stress over time, you will get better at the drill with time.
I think one of the hard part of the Hopping footwork is land AFTER hitting the ball, especially when the game is intense. I often “fly” before making contact and result loss of an seemingly easy approach shot, or often weak inside out forehand for not having a stable base because of off the ground too soon. You guys are great, basically confirm my hypothesis. Thank you and hope the channel continue growing strong.
Thank you, thank you , hitting the ball correctly is as much about positioning and footwork as stroke mechanics. Sooo many videos on stroke production, so few about foot work! Thanks for the excellent video.
Damn, i've watched some of your videos in the past few weeks as I returned to the courts after very long. I gotta say, the production value of this particular video blowed my mind. The amount of takes you have for each move and the way it's shown at different speeds is just so high level! I was impressed at the end when Dayday said it's been just a few months since starting the channel. Keep the hard work you legends, you.
I was just working with some students on this yesterday, so your timing is impeccable! I can’t spend our entire lesson time going over all the nuances so your detailed and slow motion footage will help supplement what I have already covered, plus no one remembers everything they learn in a session (without notes) so your video is a good reinforcement for the proper technique and timing pattern. Thanks for always putting out such good, high quality, instructive videos. You guys are truly a class act and totally tip the scale of the professional production of your content. Looking forward to your future releases. Don
Thanks for the continuous support, Don! I'm so glad to hear that you are utilizing videos like this for your on-court coaching and developing players as well. I believe that what you are doing is brilliant because combining live feedback and detailed slow-motion instruction gives you the best of both worlds. Best luck with your students. - Dayday
Approach shot on one-handed backhand?? Dude, it's really hard finding videos including this topic. Thanks, it means a lot to me.. Usually i just slice the approach backhand, hahaha
Amazing content. So precise and concise. Would be great to see the clip for above shoulders and below ankles shots (especially for two handed backhand).
We appreciate it, Sapient! We try our best to make our videos show not tell so that you can practically visualize them on the courts while you train. Good luck out there!
Outstanding work! Great explanations and accompanying video. Suggest adding another, slightly slower level of slow motion video, but using .5 or .75 playback in RUclips works as a workaround
Wow! Thank you very much for all of your great work and specifically the detail and expertise you place in all of your videos. This particular drill is the first of its kind that I Have found and it is so well done! We are lucky to have you and your team! Thank you
Just finessed the step work from your vid into action in a match today - wow! Amazing result. Increased power and also energy on point making. Can't wait to build on this for the season! Thanks again guys, keep it up.
This is by far the best tutorial on this entire family of flowing hopping steps. Most vids I have seen only show one type, and it wasnt until your video that I realized there are THREE types! One question: Could you do the same video but for balls above shoulders to ensure you dont hit them long but still drive through? Again, thanks for the incredible time thought and effort that you put into this video. Its evident right from the get go in your choosing to discuss 3 types of what most videos only assume is one type of hop (in a neutral stance).
*also love the slow mo action, and the way you describe the details which i find is most important when learning online. Your description of the nuances of how your weight is flowing differently and how your foot itself should move on the inside out one vs others is great! Incredible tutorial.
Thanks for the kind words Joseph! To answer your question, typically you'll want to get into more of an open stance for balls above your shoulder on the forehand. From here, executing what David Bailey terms as the transfer contact move will allow you to maintain balance, rotate through the shot, and move your body weight forward efficiently. Here's an example of what's typically done for shorter, high balls: ruclips.net/video/7Q5ezb3qvZg/видео.html We'll likely dedicate our own video regarding this footwork pattern in the near future. I hope that helps!
Thanks so much for taking the time to write such a substantive reply!!! If you have the time: is there a name for footwork or timing where you are doing like a pseudo hopping style where you are not initiating the pull until both feet are on the ground but still before the front foot has any real weight? I see monfils do this a lot.
m.ruclips.net/video/fHvpOeNSV_U/видео.html Compare monfils open stance to yours in this video. His seems to rolll smoothly like yours but it doesn’t seem to be an actual hop step cuz he isn’t starting the foreward motion early like you do before that right foot is even fully planted down.
Great, great videos guys! I'm watching these over again while I practice. Keep up the good work. Yes, the low ball and high ball approach shots videos would be greatly appreciated.
Welk Fine! Perfectly narated. I especially like the drills, since they enable you to ingrain the Motion. Or would be great of you hat these with all your videos!
I really enjoy these videos, absolutely clear and without the fluff, you have earned a suscriber ! As per request if you guys could I would like some info or a video on how to deal with high balls above the shoulder, below the ankles or how to fluidly redirect redirect pace. Thanks!
Probs for your really clear and on point explanations: amazing and refreshing!! Keep up the good work. If I may suggest a topic: difference in recovering from a position on the outside of the court and recovery when you are close to the center marker.
Wow, I could not believe this is such a fantastic video explaining on hitting the ball while moving. It gives me more power on hitting the ball deeper on baseline. By the way, is there any possibility making a video on gliding while defense ?
hi, thanks for doing all these. I have been watching tennis video since 9 years ago and I have seen the evolution over time. yours are certainly something new, into subtle but crucial details and very inspiring. pls keep up the great work! personally, I'd like to see how to deal with ankle level forehand in the mid court. I found it much harder than shoulder level shots. thanks again.
9 years!! That's very impressive. So you must know a great deal about FYB, Tennis Oxygen, and other old-school online tennis instructors, yes? :) I've also had the opportunity to observe the evolution of tennis instruction over time and I hope to bring something new to the table. My oldest memories of watching tennis videos were Nick Bollettieri DVD collections though I was hardly old enough to understand them, haha. I appreciate the compliments and we will definitely continue to work hard! We will make a video on how to deal with those difficult, very low forehands.
I started to learn tennis when FYB just came out. I learned a lot from FYB as I am more like techniques-oriented, while some others are more like feel-oriented. I think these two are the main categories of tennis instruction. I believe both have its own merits and players at different levels or different stage may need one over the other. over the 9 years I figured out that learning and teaching tennis are both very challenging. anyway, look forward to your future videos. btw, I have watched all almost all the tennis instruction videos online, at least the famous ones, FYB,ESSENTIAL TENNIS, TOP TENNIS TRAINING, NICK, FEEL TENNIS, DAILY TENNIS LESSON AND etc, you name it. hahahaha
Hello there. Nice tips by the way! I have a question, the tennis wall behind the baseline you see in the video was build by you or you bought it? And if you did it your self do you have any instructions ?? Thanks
Thanks for tuning in, Swetal! We are very glad to hear you joined our community. We have lots of serve videos coming up. Any topics you might recommend?
Another helpful video, but what I really took away is how your eyes never left the ball up till contact. Even in mid-air. The slo mos demonstrated this very clearly.
P.S. I liked that you used the medicine ball to get them going on the proper movement and release. I have been doing more with my students with the medicine ball too!
Wow! Very good! Yes, please do one on the ball above the shoulders! I'm an older player, but I still have plenty of gas in the tank, so I love to improve my approach shot! Also, at times when I have enough time and the ball is high enough, I will go to a full western grip. Any feedback or things I should consider? Lastly, the 2 feet distance from back foot to contact was very helpful but you didn't give any distances with the other shots. About the same for the other shots? Again, great job! Keep it up!
So sorry for the late reply, Dr. Bagelmaker! Yes, we will definitely make a video on the approach shot above and below the comfort zone. If you can comfortably and consistently hit the shot, the full-western grip is great because of the contact height for that grip is shoulder level and above! Depending on if you have a semi-western or eastern grip, I would consider being ready to adapt to the game situation if the ball doesn't go where you anticipated. The distance from the back foot to contact for the inside hop and lateral hop is about the same since it would be moving at an angle and the stance is open/semi-open instead of closed. Mainly, you want to be in a comfortable and balanced stance when you make contact with the ball, so you don't want your front foot to step out too close to the ball or too far from it. It's also important to take into consideration the speed and depth of the incoming ball. Lastly, timing the back leg step and front leg drive before contact is also just as important as your distance. I hope this helps!
Can you please do a video on the buggy whip like Andy Murray does during baseline shots as well as handling the intermediate low slice shots. Buggggy Whip to the rescue. Thank you. Great work
Wow anonymous, that is very, very inspiring for us to hear. You did 99% of the work to improve using our videos, so I genuinely want congratulate you on that. Thanks for putting in the work and effort on the courts. I hope we can continue to provide value in the future! - Dayday
A hop is a classification of a closed stance with an airborne finish. While both shots are hit when you are hitting an aggressive shot with forward momentum the hop is much more efficient in recovery after the shot. The hop is more commonly hit inside the baseline where as the closed stance forehand is hit more behind the baseline. While it is common to hit the hop behind the baseline, it is one of the most popular approach shots.
Although our technique is pretty sound, we are still at 4.5 - 5.0. However, we are always looking for ways to drastically improve our game. Thanks for asking!
P.S.S. For the newbies, I would suggest starting out with a basketball and then work up to a 6lb ball. Don’t go to 10lb unless they have truly strong core or else they will injure themselves. Big, soft 4lb medicine balls are great for kids
Thanks by your recomendation
Good content, nice production. You guys are killing it!!

Great video and instructions on the "hop" portion of moving in quickly for a short ball and then transitioning into net. Highly recommended!
Thank you, thank you , hitting the ball correctly is as much about positioning and footwork as stroke mechanics. Sooo many videos on stroke production, so few about foot work! Thanks for the excellent video.
You guys are amazing! The selfish side of me wishes I was the only one who could watch these videos that's how good they are! :p
Eagerly waiting for the video on approach shot for balls taken above shoulders and below ankles, thanks RacquetFlex

Great video! You demo is simple and easy to understand ! That’s why I am expecting your serve tutorial to improve my serve!
Great tutorial! Clear explanations for this shot. Also love the drills. Well done and thanks for sharing it!!
Excellent, clear, concise, instruction with drills! Superior video!
Every video you put out has lots of excellent information...Thank you!
Nice class, Racquet Flex! Regards from a Brazilian student.
It's very easy to tell your really talented man! Thanks for the great content as always
Great lesson dude. Why can’t i find a real coach who trains like this
Great stuff. Love the technical depth of instruction for us advanced players looking to improve on detail of technique. Keep 'em coming!
Approach shot on one-handed backhand?? Dude, it's really hard finding videos including this topic. Thanks, it means a lot to me.. Usually i just slice the approach backhand, hahaha
I too, rarely see this discussed online. Most people just stick to traditional slice approach, but they don't know what they are missing out on ;)
Greetings from Greece mate , your videos are very well structured and they help a lot on the court. Keep up the good work.
Amazing content. So precise and concise. Would be great to see the clip for above shoulders and below ankles shots (especially for two handed backhand).
Duly noted! Thanks, Paul.
Great instructions and clear explanations. I will surely try it out in my game. Thank you!
Love this one. More footwork videos please.
Wow. Seriously good video. It’s nice to have a video that you can watch and then head to the courts and try to replicate.
We appreciate it, Sapient! We try our best to make our videos show not tell so that you can practically visualize them on the courts while you train. Good luck out there!

Amazing video and drills. Footwork can be so much fun! Thx a lot
Thank you for the wonderful advice coach
Can't thank you enough for the video! Not many video focused on footwork - which I'm always struggling with.
Glad to help, Muhammad! I do agree that very little is talked about on how to use footwork in certain situations compared to the swing technique.
Wow! Thank you very much for all of your great work and specifically the detail and expertise you place in all of your videos. This particular drill is the first of its kind that I Have found and it is so well done! We are lucky to have you and your team! Thank you
Fantastic coaching guys - you know your stuff!

Thanks for watching!
I practice this drill and improve very much
thank you guys...youre tutorials are rocks......very helpfull
Thanks Didi!
one handed backhand lesson + Drills!! Please!! You are awesome.
Will do.
Gracias por tus videos. Buen trabajo!
Great tips! Great demonstrations. My favourite player Nadal doesn't know how/choose not to hop on any of his forehands lol
Love the video, great editing too, I feel the forward backward hop and the forward lunge hop might be missing though?

Good advice and good looking game
Awesome video thank you!
Hey buddy I am fan of your videos...I eagerly wait for your videos..your content is very unique..I am waiting for some videos on serve
Thanks for tuning in, Swetal! We are very glad to hear you joined our community.
We have lots of serve videos coming up. Any topics you might recommend?
Me too! Serve please
Your videos are always amazing ..I am looking forward for some video lessons on kick serve, slice serve and flat serve fundamentals

Excelentes os vídeos.
Is Federer your biggest inspiration? If so, it is so clear for me.
Very good presentacion, congratulation !
Great videos... great content
It is great video , I like it so much
If you could show us the hints to hit the shoulder high ball, that would be great !!
Can you please do a video on the buggy whip like Andy Murray does during baseline shots as well as handling the intermediate low slice shots.
Buggggy Whip to the rescue. Thank you. Great work
Hey Paul, thanks for watching and for the suggestions. We'll keep your topics in mind!
This was an excellent video! I just need to find a regular hitting partner who wants to do drills!
Really good info
Can you make a video on the perfect grip of forehand and key parts to keep in mind while holding the grip.
Perfect background song
Love it. In a future lesson could you explain how to safely land on one foot?
Will do!
Great video
This very video, and ankle the shots video have helped me improve my UTR, I'd love to hit with you guys sometime! Many thanks!
Wow anonymous, that is very, very inspiring for us to hear. You did 99% of the work to improve using our videos, so I genuinely want congratulate you on that. Thanks for putting in the work and effort on the courts.

Perfect tnks
Hello sir how are u. I have a one question. What is Nadal forhand grip name. And how to do same copy. Because I am a big fan for nadal
Raj Sharma western gril
Also: a showcase of a perfect Federer forehand
good work guys
when do you hop hit vs similar footwork positioning to hit a closed stance and forward step through the shot?
A hop is a classification of a closed stance with an airborne finish. While both shots are hit when you are hitting an aggressive shot with forward momentum the hop is much more efficient in recovery after the shot.
The hop is more commonly hit inside the baseline where as the closed stance forehand is hit more behind the baseline.
While it is common to hit the hop behind the baseline, it is one of the most popular approach shots.

love this channel :D
thank you
Great work? How about one on running backwards, modeled after the GOAT Rafael Nadal :)
Very good video!
As usual I should say... 😜
Thank you Massimo!
What software do you use to edit your videos? Thank you
Currently, we are editing with Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2018
very good !!
great stuff. ! sick !
thankyou
Thanks.
He looks very good. How is his tennis level?
Although our technique is pretty sound, we are still at 4.5 - 5.0. However, we are always looking for ways to drastically improve our game. Thanks for asking!
I love to hit this as an approach shot but I think I have been missing in the net because I was off the ground at contact.
Thanks a lot :)
You guys are good. Thanks!
Are you twins btw?
Blessing....
very handsome video!
can you remake this video, please?
You did the same think that i did !! Roger federer style !!
