We had a 1957 model "LAND MASTER" of HM fitted with a side valve Engine.This car was the father of Ambassador. It was very widely believed that 1962 model petrol Ambassador is the best of its clan in all respect, first fitted with Over Head Valve (OHV) petrol Engine .My father bought a second hand 1962 model petrol Ambassador in the year 1964 at Rs.11,000/- only, when I was a student of class VII and immediately after that, in October, we went on a 20 days tour all the way from Kolkata to entire north India including Delhi,Agra, Mathura etc.,driven by my father. Only the ignition coil sometimes got heated and disconnect the current supply to the Distributor.We have to wrap a wet cloth around the hot coil and it got ok. In all respect, this was the best car of that era with about 12 km per litre fuel consumption. Very sweet memory of this car is still kept in my mind. Thank you very much.
