A huge THANK YOU! This is still my favorite book of all times. First read at the age of 6, I am now 70 years old (!) and there is nothing like it. SO comforting during these mad and scary world events and surreal times.
Thank you very much for posting this. I used to listen to this every night when visiting my grandmother’s house. She passed yesterday and I don’t even really know why I searched for it but I’m delighted to have found it and heard it again after nearly two decades.
I’ve always liked Joanna, but this takes my appreciation to an even higher level again, it’s so well read I simply can’t imagine anybody else reading the story now. Wonderful.
Never heard this version before, want to hear more books narrated by Joanna now haha. I've heard Martin Jarvis read 101 Dalmatians before too, he was also very good! Had an almost restless sleep last night, but this helped me to finally drop off. Thanks so much for sharing😀
Takes me back to growing up in Knightsbridge London and going to the Hampshire School Ennismore Gardens 1969 to 1972 Such wonderful times always warms my heart Joanna what a sparkling diamond can listen to her for hours So soothing! 💎😇🙏🌹💖🌹🎉🎊🎡🎢🎠
I’m absolutely in heaven! What a joy, beautifully read, wonderful voice and accent for this story. This is the first time I’ve heard this as an audiobook, and I’m loving it. Thank you very much for uploading this, I really appreciate it!
Please put ABRIDGED in the title so that people know they are missing lots of parts...it is typically stated abridged/unabridged right up front. This is surely the best version ever recorded so thank you for sharing, I wonder why they didn't have Joanna Lumley record the book in full. What a shame but lovely all the same.
I don't put abridged in the titles because it makes them too long, so you will usually find any publishing/production info in the description under each video. MG

I just came here to check for the "expelled for drinking ink". There's actually a reference in the Cruella movie (great, by the way, just not cruel). *Seriously why would you drink ink?!*
Why would anyone make cruella " when 101 dalmatians has been animated and also brought to life by glen close.?..why would Enid blyton get cancelled?why post why comments I?
@@davehopkins1970 I have not yet seen the Glen Close Movie..is it good? P.S. I posted a Why comment because I’m genuinely curious about life, facts and truth.
@@Lutomoria If they actually made a TV series based on the 101 dalmatians and stuck to the source material and a dog asked What was that Pongo would be facetious And say to him that that was a calling card from an old friend meaning of Cruella Deville
Uhhh... You realize this book came first, right? Walt was aware of Cruella bragging about drowning kittens. I'm sorry if you know already, it's just the way your comment was worder made it seem like you thought the movie came first.
And drowning kittens and puppies was quite common at the time 🤷 vets rarely did much small animal care, and neutering and spaying I don't think was even able to be done at the time. Just like humans didn't have much available birth control. It's quite pointed in the story how spoiled the parent dogs are, because it was so unusual. Most mongrel dogs and moggie cats were loved and fed and expected to get on with it! Only pedigrees with wealthy owners would consult a vet for a pregnant animal. Read James Herriot!!Unwanted animals were a serious problem, strays can spread disease. Unfortunately a lot of people felt that popping them in a sack with a weight was a quicker death than leaving them to starve or be eaten by something else,or banging them on the head was too distressing. You can't apply the values of today to 60-70 years ago.
If we ever get another 101 Dalmatians movie or TV Series I wouldn't mind Mr De Vil Cruella's husband as the main antagonist at least it would be different someone and not the usual Cruella De Vil as much as I enjoy Cruella De Vil as the main antagonist we need a different main antagonist of The 101 Dalmatians series I also wouldn't mind Prince and Missis being added as well as Prince being Pongo's brother and Missis being Perdy's sister Anyone agree?

Used to listen to this every Christmas eve, in the dark, waiting for Father Christmas ❤

🥰 good audiobook.
Joanna Lumley has the perfect voice for audiobooks.
So great❤
In about a year I'll be using this recording to program my A.I text-to-speech Audiobook reader lol
Joanna Lumley from The New Avengers and Sapphire & Steel ☺
Fun fact: Joanna Lumley’s character Patsy Stone inspired Glenn Close’s take on Cruella de Vil.

Dang Cruella even killed kittens. Dont think it was for the fur. Thats brutal
that makes the cruella movie even worse
Yeah.
Awesome
I loved it. I wish joanna Lumley could the chalet school and the return of the psammead by helen cresswell

It surprises me how much of the movie was accurate to the book. Yes changes were made to the change in medium but it is still pretty accurate.
Its strange how accurate the movie is but really weird that the sequel book was entirely ignored when making the sequel movie.
I love dogs
I must say that the original novel Cruella is way more mysterious than the Disney version.
The staffy was perfectly described 😂
❤️
Beautifully narrated, but it's a pity so much of the story is missing. I would have loved an unabridged version.

This woman played one of the evil aunts in James and the giant peach

I mean we knew Cruella was cruel hence her name but sheesh small doses people
Totally ruined with ad after ad
@@bibijet1316 Sorry about that, this isn't a monetised channel so youtube will randomly place ads where people are listening.
1:33:45 the girls are weak. The story ends with cadpig wondering who owned the building she watched the television she liked so much in.
Girls are never weak . I think they were they were the ones who pulled the cadpigs cart
Yeah, some clear sexism in the writing unfortunately.
