I don't think opening prep kills classical chess, if anything computer prep made the it more difficult for top players to easily defeat lower rated opponents because now everybody has access to the same resources so you can make the game closer by having good prep, but it's not the end of it, the other player can deviate from a known drawish line if he wants, you don't have to play into the Berlin Wall or exchange QGD/Slav if you don't want to, and even in those drawish openings I see decisive results all the time, because sooner or later you will have to think on your own and mistakes are bound to happen. Sometimes people act like chess is solved or that prep has killed classical, that's not true at all.
the issue i see with classical chess is that by the time you are out of prep, most of the problems in the position is already solved. You can still expect decisive results but the games would've been way more fun if players had to think on their own without any memorization, and often times the games are only exciting when black is also pushing for a win
@@insitan-b4b Of course it would be even better if there was no prep in classical and 960 is more enjoyable for top players, I'm not questioning that, but , as a viewer, I enjoy classical much more than 960, it's very difficult to understand what's going on in the latter until the game reaches a position resembling traditional chess, I honestly believe the freestyle tour will not get that many views compared to World Cup/Grand Swiss or even Tata Steel. It is only a matter of time. If the thousands of openings in classical chess have been studied, it will take a short time to analyse the 960 possible boards and develop opening strategies.
I would like to interrupt here by saying that India is not a small country adding the fact that it is the most populous country in the world which is near about equal to or even more than the population of entire Europe.
In my opinion classical chess is good because it brings complexity, endurance and quality.Rapid and blitz is much more about who has better position in the middle game (most of the time)as it is easy to blitz out moves and it's much about time rather than chess itself. if classical chess have few tweaks it might make it much more likeable. For Freestyle i haven't seen much of it so I will not comment on that.
Why doesn't opening prep matter as much in speed chess formats. Is it just because there are too many games to have enough opening prep for? It seems like rattling off 15+ moves in a speed format where you know the pitfalls of responses would be even more deadly than in a slower format.
My guess would be that it’s not worth the time since there are too many games to prepare and not enough time to capitalize a small edge out of the opening.
The reason is that in speed chess players can simply play relatively dubious openings if they dont feel comfortable in some main line. There is simply not enough time for your opponent to figure out why this is not a known opening and why it "doesn't work" so they wont be able to punish it. In classical between well prepped players if somebody plays a move in the opening that the other guy has never seen then its already clear that this move cant be good and you can simply stop and think for half an hour and figure out how to punish it. Whereas in speed chess you just gotta move.
@@Julius-chessYes, I believe this is the exact answer. Just watch Hikaru or Magnus play, they play every sort of opening and sometimes get slightly worse positions, but end up outplaying the opponents either way. Ofc if you go into a super theoretical line in the Petroff against Fabi in a blitz match he'll probably blow you out of the board with his prep alone. But if you play a more dubious line then it's a chess game.
Wow! Exciting times for chess! So inspiring to see how different entities of that game work together towards the game's better future that will include more people and will attract more attention. With the best player being the moving power throughout the years for that change of direction of chess.
I found the section around 16:00 or 17:00 minutes interesting. I feel like there is a place for a new title system. Some sort of criteria that represents the very best all around chess players, so that the term "Grandmaster" regains some meaning in the modern chess context. Who will be the first titled OG? (Overall Grandmaster 😂)
Magnus is still crying on classical matches which is main thing in chess. In rapid & blitz players don't have time to think when time is too low and they end up loosing even in winning position which is not chess. Also freestyle chess one player gets advantage if he is white.
I find it disappointing that they are referring to 'Fischer Random Chess' as 'freestyle chess.' Bobby Fischer invented Fischer Random Chess (also known as Chess960) to bring innovation and fairness to the game, and it’s important to respect his contribution. Changing its name for commercial purposes diminishes his legacy, and that’s truly unfortunate
Actually, "The concept of random chess, also known as shuffle chess, was first proposed by the Dutch chess enthusiast Philip Julius van Zuylen van Nijevelt (1743-1826)" -- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chess960
“Freestyle” sounds better than “Fischer Random” in my opinion. Of course it’s known by three names: Fischer Random, Freestyle, and 960. I certainly haven’t forgotten about Fischer, though I prefer to call it “960”.
Fischer was a phenomenal chess player, and he will always be remembered for that. Unfortunately, he was also pretty problematic outside the game. That stuff matters, especially when sponsors have their money on the line. If given the choice to use a name that is likely more marketable (Freestyle Chess), or an arguably worse name that also pays tribute to an outspoken anti-Semite-the choice is pretty easy.
They are all in denial over the rise of India and that being the biggest chess story of 2024. India is very influential; the fan following has grown sharply, they are dedicated, they will follow their players and will drive the narrative. Magnus may be the GOAT but chess is not his fiefdom. His status as the GOAT was built on winning five classical titles. After he exited the cycle, he is now putting it down, that too right after a new champion was crowned. Not convincing.
saying that top 2 best players are not playing in world championship is utter stupidity i don't care who says that! The best quit on the mental exhaustion in the match. Its not fault of the 2 playing there. Also, both reached their defeating many. Its not a fluke!!!!!!!

Yeah I would have thought opening prep is even more important in speed chess.
Play is so fast, you so be able to play anything you have prepared. 😊
Fischer Random Chess is the actual chess (creativity + critical thinking)
exciting times for chess
Wow! Exciting times for chess! So inspiring to see how different entities of that game work together towards the game's better future that will include more people and will attract more attention. With the best player being the moving power throughout the years for that change of direction of chess.
Please add graphics to freestyle chess that shows castling options when watching events
Is that chessboard flush with the table yet? 😂😂😂
That's my wish for the next live game from Take Take Take 😜
FANTASY CHESS LETS GO!!!!
Don’t get everyone sick, Magnus!!
Magnus looks pissed
W thumbnail..🎉
I found the section around 16:00 or 17:00 minutes interesting. I feel like there is a place for a new title system. Some sort of criteria that represents the very best all around chess players, so that the term "Grandmaster" regains some meaning in the modern chess context. Who will be the first titled OG? (Overall Grandmaster 😂)
These guys have a good life. So much better than the 9-5 jobs that most of us have to endure
They work darn hard for anything that they have.and they deserve way more than they currently earn.
@@AnjelLee-f8c For playing a board game? Give me a break. They're paid very well for what they do.
@@BersekerSamweak rage bait
@@BersekerSamit’s very difficult to become very good at this board game lol
@@BersekerSamLmao, care to enlighten what kind of job you do?
Kaja is too good. Love the intro but please make better thumbnails
I'd like to confound too, there is a market being ignored.
This is Game of Thrones in Chess 😂
kaja is a great moderator and spokesperson. she has great energy and command of language. Good luck!!!!!
Levon is just the best
seems fun
The most honest American : oh this is Ake Ake Ake ! 😗😗
this video feels like i’m voluntarily showing up to a board meeting
Magnus is still crying on classical matches which is main thing in chess. In rapid & blitz players don't have time to think when time is too low and they end up loosing even in winning position which is not chess. Also freestyle chess one player gets advantage if he is white.
isnt that the beauty of it, the player with black pieces should find a defense. if he fails he should try and win with white.
Is Magnus ready to give back all his classical games title if he feels it is circus???!!!
@thepaperbowser
Very well said.
@thepaperbowser oh no please not the antisemitic line again. Entirely overused as the world now sees with the abuses in occupied Gaza by Israel
short time controls alleviate the issue of crowd influence, right? no glass box!
17:00 Magnus describing himself! 😂
PS: They talk about what is called FischerRandomChess!
Chess is comparible to s sport like baseball. The triple crown of hitting. If Magnus wins Blitz, freestyle, speed . He is the goat
Mad mad mad!!!
Your app is amazing but it is too slow and lagy, better to use more powerful server
Exactly, people need to stop believing whatever he says to further his own agenda. Let's make FIDE the new BCCI 🤣
saying that top 2 best players are not playing in world championship is utter stupidity i don't care who says that! The best quit on the mental exhaustion in the match. Its not fault of the 2 playing there. Also, both reached their defeating many. Its not a fluke!!!!!!!
the thing is luck is important in candidates. because of the opening prep, weaker players has better chances to win
The best events in 2024 was candidates, olympiad and world chess championship. All classical events.
Stop try to destroy classical chess, please.
Greatness
Did anybody already comment on Levon's sweater?
Promoting Fischer Random? Cool.
Dumping on classical within days of a new champion being crowned? Not cool. Ungracious and unsporting.
Hey, today I’ve been trying to follow games in the CCT finals. However it was kind of messy, because games were shown live even though they ended some time before, so I didn’t really know what was going on. It would be nice if you could fix it.
How can i get the Take take take laptop stickers, they're really cool
Let’s goooo
The Biggest stage….. so misleading… so he isn’t facing Gukesh for the championship in a couple years????
danny's comments are awesome !!!
Love the idea of the esports studios for shorter form chess but disappointed they have decided to take the Saudi money route with the ewc.
