  • Wow! What a job. This project pushed the CAT D5 dozer Wow, what a job! I pushed the CAT D5 dozer and the CAT 308 excavator to their limits and maybe a little past their limits. Cleared a 40’ path up the mountain for a power line and water line. CAT power means no problem!!!

    Mr. tristar diggin... do you know what the grade might have been where you were running your dozer? i'm pretty familiar with a 17 degree to 20 degree slope which is about at the limit of what you can easily walk up or down. i read somewhere that Cat dozers can climb up a 40 degree slope with high growser tracks. do you know the climb limit for your D5 and also the side slope tip-over limit? i have a farm in W.Va. that has a lot of slopes. various Texas pipeline companies have taken Cats up and down my hills but those operators do stuff that just seems insane to me. and i've watched them "winch" Cats up and down hills which is really crazy to watch. good luck with your channel and best wishes that you stay safe. you have a lot of courage on your D5 that i'm not sure i would have.

    Cool project! I’ve never operated on anything that steep (at least for that kind of distance), you had your blade on the uphill side…I always keep it downhill and use it as a leveler/e-brake. Is that how you always work slopes?

    • @tristardiggin
      @tristardiggin  Год назад +3

      Thanks, I really enjoyed this project. I generally keep my blade on the digging side so that I'm pulling against the blade and the idlers instead of the final drives. Had an old timer tell me when I started that idlers are cheaper than final drives. That made since so that is how I've always tried to do it. About the only time I have the blade behind me is to level up the machine if necessary.
