    I live in East Ky and surrounded by step hills and mountains. The mountain behind my house is pretty steep. I have a small cabin that I built at the top... I've always wanted to get someone to block out a road for me with a dozer... It fascinates me to see dozers cutting roads on steep mountainsides.

    I have property that is pretty steep on the lower slope of a small mountain in New England. The large boulders would make for a pretty tough operation if we attempted to build this sort of road. The old skidder trails pretty much go straight up and down the slope. It would be nice to have a trail with a more gradual incline.

    Growing up in BC interior. We built logging roads with a fella buncher followed by a skidder and a 300-450 size hoe. Dozers seemed to take to long. We had thick clay l, gravel, hard rock and any mix. If it was steep enough you could use a high line or heli-log. But it really has to be big timber and select species. 48"+ ceder, Doug fir.. etc.

    I got the graphite, 70cc graphite pro saw. Not a bad saw, cant use stihl bar, but oregon worked well, also be careful with the chain size, i had one made, 52 links for my 24” bar???? Anyways, i know you know, but maybe somebody doesnt…. It’s not as snappy as my 500, but just to go out, delimitation, cut a few trees, and know it wont let me down for a FRACTION of the price of my 500, I’d do it again in a heart beat. I sorta crunched my 500 and hadda rebuild most of the outside lol, that gets expensive, (actually could have bought a second holts for the same price as a lite bar, handle, and the gas tank) cost me for stihl lol….anyways, cool video, i might pull the trigger on a little dozer to keep with me on jobs so I don’t have to rely on somebody else…..great vid

    How’s it hanging Mr Hoskins.? Kinda hilly spot but nice logs. I’ve always thought I could adapt to any kind of logging , anywhere, and be at least successful. But those steep hills are not desirable and I’ll stick with Pine Sawtimber down here in Ga any day. But much respect to you for logging those challenging hills But if I had to I would give it hell too Bros. Yal b careful and stay standing up and let the timber fall down. AC

    When your cutting a road do you prefall the trees so they can land against the base of 2 or more trees to help hold rocks soil etc... for the path base? These lilltle cats are great for preserving forrested land or selective logging low impact shows. Tree farming land !!!

    • @hoskinslogging9858
      @hoskinslogging9858  Год назад

      We put the roads in first, which makes the timber harvesting go a little smoother. Usually don't have too much erosion while the site is active. Then everything gets water barred and sown with grass.
