    Representation matters a lot less than qualifications. I didn't care that the doctor that removed my tumor was an Indian woman. She removed it, I recovered

      And I am sure her or her family did an amazing job assimilating to American culture and language. This of course, was established and accomplished by having representation they were able to see and conceptualize in real time. Which ultimately gave your Indian doctor the ability to remove your tumor...

      Sometimes it's helpful to be there for a person of a group you can represent. I've been there in the thick of it and I must say you know it when it happens. Overall just being caring and aware that we all need connection and acceptance is what is key. I the young nurse in the video has this to offer :) It's a nice trait and can contribute to skill as well.

      I'm not so confident about randomly assign to see an older Dr juan Carlo as an urgent appointment for general checkup. Luckily he referred me to orthopedic in past years. I saw him on the walkway of the office sometime when I was there for other appointments I never seen other Dr on the hallways, except him. Doctors are usually busy with back to back appointments

      Dip stick they won’t let you in without having a good score. HBCU nursing schools are notoriously the hardest to graduate from 🤦🏻‍♂️

    I agree that while culture matters, experience and competence matters most. I am saying this as a retired nurse of 41 years. We all need to get along no matter what our background. We ALL need ro be able to work with any culture which is a skill that is learned on the job. I think we need to stop making such a big deal over our differences and concentrate on loving everyone the same.

    Skills and competency is what really matters in nursing school. Your wokeness isn't going to save someone if you are incompetent.

    I love that the high-schools are offering this for young adults, but after being in nursing for 20+ yrs I do have questions bc our kids high-school only offers vocational training &/or college credits towards college. I can see earning a CNA, but a RN in that short amount of time?

    • @ASPhDRN1922
      @ASPhDRN1922 Месяц назад

      No they don’t earn their RN license. They get their CNA and general education credits for college. If they choose to continue with nursing it gives them a head start in the nursing program.

    I absolutely love this! While i don't think I myself could do a career in nursing I love seeing people of color, diversity and just a caring younger generation. At one point we will all need medical services so it can never be too much people going into this field and giving this young people a great foundation

    Great school, great kids, and desperately needed in a country that usually suffers with severe shortages of nurses. Gleny's fantastic attitude was wonderful to see. I hope she will eventually become a registered nurse. One of the best careers any young person can strive for - yes, very hard work, but premium wages and benefits, and a nurse can often choose to live wherever they please with the assurance of getting a good position, and in many cities, RNs can work 3-4 days per week, though long 12 hour shifts on those days. But having 3-4 days off each week allows for plenty of R&R and enhanced quality of life to alleviate the stress of the long work days.

      There is a disparity in health. Ask yourself why are women of colour are dying at higher rate compared to their counterparts . Race in health care is a serious topics, please educate yourself before commenting

    Representation matters a LOT less than qualification! You don't need to represent ANYTHING, it is a job and a skill, once you are in school for sometime, YOU... YES, You either knows that you had it in you for the calling or the job or whatever you want to spin it (TBH it is a job), or you don't. It is what it is. I just don't understand why you need to romanticized the skill/profession!

    Anybody else catch that? “I want to help the families that look like me”. IMAGINE if a white person said that. Wowsers. Just coming right out and saying it now. Black privilege.

    • @stephaniewhite2109
      @stephaniewhite2109 Месяц назад

      It has nothing to do with Black privilege. As a Black healthcare professional with almost 30 years of experience, I have experienced the blatant racism by white patients. It didn’t matter that I was in management with two Master’s degrees or that I now have a doctorate. I’ve had patients say they didn’t want Black nurses take care of them. I’ve been called out of my name by patients. And studies have shown that patients of color don’t receive the same care. So at the end of the day, representation does matter!

    • @ASPhDRN1922

      And Yes, I purposely made the reply long. By reading your term paper length reply, we have now lost about 6 1/2 minutes we will never see again or get back. Specifically, most of those minutes were spent trying to understand your position in this whole discussion debacle.😅

    Sad to see a drastic increase in the number of deaths at the hospital because the number of qualified people decreased and the number of inclusive people increased

  • @sandralogue1774

    I thought people improved because they received care from competent care givers.When race is brought into a field,it stays in the field.
    Diversity is a great thing,until it becomes discriminatory.
    There is a reason Affirmative Action has been taken out,and that was due to the fact that although Black students got into college,they got there due to the color of their skin,not because they had earned it.
    Not saying this of all Black students,there are thousands of Black students who worked very hard to get into college and deserved to be there,they stayed in college because they worked hard to stay,not because they were given an easy way in.
    Affirmative Action failed the students they were supposed to help by not following through and ensuring they were able to maintain college level grade averages.
    By dismissing a student's qualifications based on race is pure and simply discrimination.

      Over 4 million nurses in the USA and 80% of nurses are white and the remaining 20% of nurses are divided among the other races.
      The nurses you see depends on where you live. This data was pulled from nurses who identify their race and ethnicity for the state license recertification.
