Can we discuss how the main character who has an extremely dangerous job, that she probably should not be doing, is named OSHA?
As an architect I couldn’t stop cackling when they said her name
@@kinglew0773 I work in healthcare and same! Whoever came up with that name is master level at puns.
@@OswaldPHaygoodthey should have a spy who goes around telling everyone's secrets named HIPAA
Good catch!
They did say her job should be done by droids, so it is an OSHA violation lol
I don't feel like the initial lower-stakes vibe is problematic.
I actually really despise contemporary media's tendency to raise the stakes so steeply and immediately-- in such a rush-- as if it needs to always outdo stakes previously established in older stories. The need to be "more epic"-- frequently to meet the expectations of overly-desensitized audiences that will lose interest if a story begins in a more organic, relaxed-- true life way. My immersion is immediately decimated by stories that rush into the high stakes, endgame-worthy crises that honestly should leave the viewers wondering "well wth are they even going to do after this?"
So for me, the subtle development of this story is incredibly refreshing-- much like Andor was for me. I have a feeling there may be a similar divide along fans that like this show and that liked Andor. I guess we'll see.
Also, I always love your political discussions and also how you nuance it into the content as well. Great messages, and great channel.
Yeah that’s a valid point I do feel like these murders will grow into something much larger eventually
@@GenerationTech yeah I'm legit actually excited for the next episode just because I'm enjoying the world-building and character development. I'm also enjoying not being able to easily predict where they're taking things yet.
Anyway, thanks for the response dude.
Mate, well said! Literally agree on all of that. Cheers.
@@GenerationTechAlan I absolutely loved your review, but just like you I'm sad you had to make the comments you did at the end of the video. And honestly I don't think you needed to. I think we're adults we all realize what the situation is. And I come here because I respect your opinion when it comes to Star wars. I also respect the fact that you don't preach and yeah you're not a gatekeeper like so many channels have become.
I absolutely love your content, and you keep doing you my friend because you are a spectacular Star Wars content creator
And to compare this lower stakes plot to other, more recent Star Wars projects, works like The Mandalorian didn’t necessarily have galaxy-altering stakes, but was instead more focused on a specific corner of this timeline with a select group of characters and their personal journeys (even if the stories declined overtime).
Conversely, when the story became more massive, as the proposed conflict between Mandalorians was promptly sidetracked to have one final clash with the Empire, it suffered greatly, losing its focus on character in favor of spectacle.
If this story manages to make its personal stakes, which is currently Osha and Mae being on opposite sides of a conflict neither one fully understands, as well as having a satisfying answer to the nature of the apparent crimes the targeted Jedi Masters committed, well written and interesting enough, the plot won’t need to involve potential destruction of worlds or interstellar war to be interesting or to be considered as having stakes.
Came for a review of Acolyte. Left pondering the state of our society and feeling existential dread. Another happy video, GenTech!
The CG in space really has better quality than it did in the Kenobi series. I have spoken
Still wasn’t that good thought the escape pod ejecting changing the whole trajectory of the ship was wonky. But yeah the kenobi scenes definitely looked worse
@@GenerationTechIt’s very intriguing that the ships uses a hyperspace docking port
@@GenerationTech but if a ship is down, then that makes perfect sense.
@@GenerationTech an escape pod launching WOULD change the ship trajectory. Newtons law of inertia. Every action has an equal an opposite reaction. The thrust of the escape pod launching would push the ship in the opposite direction. If you were just referring to how it looked on screen, then apologies for misinterpreting your comment
for sure it just seemed a bit too excessive, especially with the ship falling into the planets gravity well. but its a small nit pick
I'm giving it an honest try, It's alright so far, I really liked the pocket droid.
i like how hes called pip like the fallout computers
@@GenerationTechI love how I’m not the only one who noticed thsi
Who else appreciates Alan producing new videos that showcase the various areas of his executive mansion?
I really dug the chair droids! Those were sweet
I knew it be better than everyone was saying. I just hope more and more fans will at least give it a try.
I've enjoyed it so far. It's definitely not Andor, but it's not bad either. I think Alan is right: cautiously optimistic is the correct attitude for now.
Same here I just watched it and feel the same way I am and not trying to cause drama was relieved that there were at least some side characters or whatever you call them that were white men because I myself am a white man and I was really worried that they would not have any not even as background characters unless they were evil do to the controversy although I do think the main cast is alright.
I'm pretty sure Mae attacking the Jedi while unarmed so they won't use their lightsaber. She probably wants to kill the Jedi with their own lightsaber.
Maybe that’s her end goal. Going on this revenge killing spree for some trial to get the masters attention. The show made it a point to show that she tries to reach for their lightsabers.
@@republiccommando1463 could be a sith trial. Still holding out hope the dark master is darth Tenebrous, plageus master.
Would explain the modulated voice
Yeah she obviously has to kill a Jedi without a weapon to pass whatever this test or trial is. But I don't get it, if she doesn't use a weapon how is she supposed to kill them, using just the force? Force choke? Technically she killed Master torbin without a weapon
@@Piunti_302 I hope more of that mystery is revealed throughout the series. While I enjoyed the first episodes, this is the type of shows that absolutely needs to stick the landing or else the entire show would be looked upon as messy and pointless.
"unarmed"
What i love about Star Wars is that you've had hundreds of writers and artists contributing to this story for 47 years now, across film, TV, books, comics and games. It's a rich world and to be honest you'd be mad to like everything about it. The point is, Star Wars has something for everyone and that's why it will never be 'dead' to me.
Amen.
If only every Star Wars “fan” understood this. . .
All under the iron fist of one woman
@@stuartbagley2586 True, but sadly there is far too much toxic "fandom" out there.
Best attitude to have really, personally I thought most of the old EU was absolute crap but plenty of people liked plenty of it and there was stuff there I liked too. Personally I like most of what Disney have produced that I've seen so far, didn't like the sequel films and found the majority of Andor just painfully dull (don't get me wrong when it was good it was amazing but I think they made it too long so the pace was just really bad) and those were the only real ones I had any real issues with, I'll even defend Resistance, once that show gets going it's actually pretty good, especially in actually making the first order y'know...intimidating they did a far better job with that time period than the sequel trilogy and it's a shame it didn't continue but I digress...
No sense being reactionary and hateful all the time, just chill out and move on, maybe have slightly more relaxed expectations for Star Wars too, it's awesome and I love it, always have for as long as I can remember, but BFFR it ain't exactly ever been the most highbrow art nor has it really ever tried to be, it's a simple baddies v goodies story that is occasionally told well and visually interesting, not least because it is intended for younger audiences.
I actually liked it surprisingly, its a non Skywalker era story and doesn't really mess with the existing lore so far (Fingers crossed because lets see where this Sith thing goes). Hopefully it sticks the landing!
Yoda and Chewbacca should be alive at this time.
@@jimmyhyun8546 Yoda is in the High Republic books and comics, which take place 100 and 250 years earlier.
So far haha, wait till the next one
I hope its a different sort of dark side cult because I think showing that the sith aren't the only dark-side threat would be very interesting. Also the voice over with the big bad kinda gave me Nihl vibes so could be cool
@@jimmyhyun8546 just bc theyre alive doesnt mean they have to be in the show, especially chewbacca
I love Star Wars. And I lost interest halfway through the first episode. Didn’t even realize it. I just started looking at my phone. It was garbage.
It was… fine. 6/10. Could swing either way depending on how the rest of the show goes. Though the trend with the recent marvel and Star Wars shows is that they tend to be fine for the first 2-4 episodes and then go totally off the rails after that. I’m very concerned that will happen here.
It seems to be completely opposite for SW shows LoL. Kenobi is only worth going for the last episode. Bobf had a better second half because of Mando episodes and... A pretty okay finale. Tales of the empire had an undeniably stronger second arc. Ahsoka was mediocre in the begging and the end, and was on it's best right in the middle. The bad batch's 3rd season is by far the best. Andor's first episodes are the most boring ones
The mando episodes in bobf are the weakest eps imo. The best one is episode 2 by far
Well this is exactly why you don't give a rating until you've watched everything. You're still making the exact same mistake the racists did when they said Acolyte was going to be bad because there were "too many" actors of color being cast.
@@user-vn1no7ws2b Ahsoka was good after episode 2, it only started off bland. It's better than it's given credit for.
@@f-86zoomer37 That's just how some of this fan base works now. They judge a book by a quarter of its cover.
Some of these SW shows will get more than one season, and those seasons will likely be way better than the first. That was the case with every SW show before Disney+ came about.
People are judging this new show as if it's already done, even though only 1/4th of the season has been aired.
Even when these "fans" watch an entire season, they're so focused on its flaws they miss any good it may have. Book of Boba and Mando S3 are much better than you'd think.
Thematically and stylistically, the Acolyte is like a mash-up of all Stars Wars live action content circa 1999 to 2024. The good, the bad, the ugly. I liked it.
You have one of the more real takes on Acolyte. Everyone is panning it due to "politics" and are just hating to hate. I liked these 2 episodes, werent perfect, but Im interested to see where the stories go. I really like Master Sol too, very Qui Gon Jinn esque
I don't have a problem with relative outsiders creating Star Wars content according to their own interpretation. If the franchise doesn't grow it'll die.
The only real 'politics' as the Right says is that sisters had more than one mother who existed and *shocker* the trade federation didn't follow safety standards?
Agreed people were ready to hate it even if it is good.
The point is if you support it they’re going to ruin an entire genre for multiple generations of fans all over the world for “woke”
Just watch a few other videos on what’s going on in the background. Weinsteins assistant is playing a major role in its production, one of the main characters is a racist (but only to white people so it’s okay apparently) and the other one claims to be a fan of Star Wars but doesn’t know anything about the lore or what he’s working on.
“Oh yeah I’m a mechanic of course, I think the car is just low on blinker fluid”
That’s how it comes across, disingenuous and stupid.
@@Devinci297 Honestly I think most people hating haven't even really watched it. Or try to capitalize on the "anti woke" mentality of their audience/bubble. I'm so endlessly tired of all the toxicity for no f*cking reason. I wish I had their lives ...must be nice to have so little problems that you can go be so pissed off about a piece of fictional media for almost a decade now.
It is interesting how the Jedi are not quick to use their lightsabers. It is a welcome change from the clone wars and imperial eras. It also shows how the Jedi became complacent with their position in the galaxy.
The Nemoidians going "ello m8"
Please don’t tell me they gave the nemoidians cockney accents 🤦♂️ please don’t
@@Trx957 They gave them flamboyant lisps. jk the whiners, preemptive judges, and homophobes are out of hand with this show
I would say the homosexuals were out of hand with this one. I mean, even the director and actors said it was the gayest star wars has ever been.
Don't get me wrong, I have many friends and family members who are, and I love and respect them, so don't even try calling me homophobe, something you might already be convinced I am just for daring questioning why do star wars need so much expressed sexuality in the first place?
@@TheSmartCinemait was an obvious joke since both main actress and director are gay. The gayest thing about the show is osha and mae having mothers like they said.
@@aeddan_1233 its not homophobix to say the show is horrificly bad. also the show is literally sexist and racist, so idk what you're on about
I started watching the show skeptically. But I found it enjoyable with the first two episodes and like the characters so far. However I was left wanting more information on the back ground leading up to the circumstances of the story. I give it an 8 out of 10.
Fire in space? I guess in a galaxy far far away flames work in a vacuum
fire needs 3 things to survive. fuel, oxygen, and heat. im assuming that most people are getting confused on the air bit. thing is, just like rockets in a vacuum. its fairly easy to assume that what ever exploded has some kind of oxidizer with it as well. its why the flame doesnt spread or grow as far as it might in atmosphere.
In my opinion, the first episode was... okay. Not bad, but not particularly good. It feels like the purpose of the opener was the setup for what is to come. Haven't seen episode 2 yet.
I do feel like the first fight, against Master Indara was pretty good, until the end of the fight. I get that she didn't want to hurt Mae, but why did she just stand there when it was clear Mae was going to attack the bartender? Why did she not act? There were so many things she could have done to stop, or at least throw the attack off.
A common theme from psot-prequels legends stories: in order tp kill a Jedi u can't attack them directly. But if u put an innocent in harms way, the Jedi's urge to save them will overpower any survival instinct. They will save the innocent, leaving themselves open
@@cloudmaster182 the kenobi series also emphasized this in a bar scene when one of the inquisitors went into a tavern hunting a Jedi and threw either a blade or some other weapon at an innocent forcing the Jedi to intervene and out himself
Indara didn’t view her attacker as an immediate fatal threat at that moment because she thought she had destroyed all her knives with her lightsaber except the one she was holding. That’s why the camera shows us a behind angle of the attacker hidden from Indara’s view where she slips out a hidden dagger she kept up her sleeve that she later throws at her.
I’m not saying it’s the most amazing reasoning, it’s still a little convenient. But I don’t think it’s logic breaking bad, just normal tv show slightly lazy bad. Wish it was better, sure, but doesn’t destroy my immersion to turn me off.
Why did kenobi not kill anakin twice
My theory is Master Indara grew up in an era of peace. Fighting wise, she's probably a low to middle ranked Jedi Knight from the Prequel trilogy. Unlike during the Clone Wars, Master Indara has had little to no need to be a strong combatant. So that combined with her lack of combat experience is why she fell for such an obvious ploy.
Thank you for being so honest. In the sea of content creators it’s hard to find ones that aren’t pandering or playing into some algorithmic agenda. I’ve become very jaded towards Star Wars, not just because of lackluster content, but because of everything around it too. It’s just exhausting.
I went into this show with very low expectations but came out of the first two pretty happy and impressed. I like all the characters and want to see where it goes from here. The stand out was definitely Sol! It’s nice to feel something other than apathy with this franchise, but the toxicity online has reminded me just how important it is to give things a chance and to make up your own thoughts on something rather than follow what others say.
At the end of the day, we all need to take a step back and realize what truly matters in life. It’s just a show, give it a shot. Don’t be afraid to say you like it. And if you don’t, it’s okay. There’s plenty else to watch.
You're getting caught up in a distraction. A distraction used as a shield and a cudgel. A shield from accountability and a cudgel for those who dare to voice displeasure.
A strong and insightful ending to this video. Star Wars should be a thing that 'grown ass adults' should enjoy. Or not. That's it. It's just enterrtainment. It's not very important in the grand scheme. The social media toxicity of (some) Star Wars fans is upsetting and, at times, scary. The hate and anger generated against Star Wars these days is something i find perplexing. hopefully Star Wars fandom can get back to the welcoming bunch we used to be back in the day. Scratch that. What i mean is that I hope to see the vocal toxic minority drowned out by all the rest of us.
Cautiously optimistic myself! I gravitated to master Sol immediately. Very Qui mentality. I'm ready to see where they take it
I really liked Sol, Yord, and Osha the most. Mae is insufferable, I don’t know why Amandla’s portrayals are so drastically different in quality. Everytime she says “attack me with all of your strength I cringe”
The only thing that saved that line for me was that alien immediately cracking up
@@GenerationTech very true lol, that’s exactly how I felt. She also doesn’t feel well trained enough to be killing these Jedi masters like Indara, who died for making a stupid decision
It wants to be the Star Wars version "I want you to hit me as hard as you can" from Fight Club...
@@9Siddartha9 definitely is, I just don’t think it’s well executed
I agree it didn't succeed and I worry that this show wants to be too many things. Both in terms of connections in the SW universe, and cinema influences and nods. I'm not sure all these things can work together unless they are executed very well...
Attack me with all your strength 😂😂 htf wrote that
Mae's character was clearly written to be naive and brash. It also shows that she has some sense of honor. It makes sense for her to say something like that.
Honestly, it's very satisfying to watch as a SWTOR player/fan. For once, nothing has to tie back to Palpatine or the Skywalkers. I notice that so far, the show skirts dangerously close to unnecessary dramatic tropes meant to pad out runtime, but unlike the majority of the New Republic in the other shows, the characters here are capable of logic and critical thinking. I'll wait to see how the rest of the show goes. For all I know, the characters could pull a Loki S1 or Secret Invasion and just turn everyone stupid in one episode to forward the plot, but I'm liking it so far. Like Alan said, not as compelling as Andor, but that's a very high bar as it is.
The Jedi at this point in time are giving me "For The Greater Good" vibes...I love this new take.
“Cocks bolter with hateful intent”
Which usually ends in mass murder
T'au mind manipulation.
I hate xenos
@@intzbk1 As a T'au player I can confirm.
I was pleasantly surprised by the first episode, mostly because I had whatsoever no expectations for the show. It looks a bit refreshing, and well done.
The force truly works in strange ways. The current politics highlights of my country have me on a lot of stress and confusion. But I feel like your words were something I really needed to hear.
I have found joy in star wars but also relief and understanding of my own life, and I think that's amazing!
I really wanna know about Darth Snaggletooth
After watching the first two episodes, my take is: As a "who dun it" mystery it has my interest. Though I would say they are revealing "The conspiracy" too fast. I have also noticed a trend of making characters dumb... Either to give room for other characters to explain what is going on, or maybe to make the audience feel smarter than the characters? That trend needs to go away. Why does Master Sol need to tell Knight Jurd that a person he has known for years, used to be a jedi?
My take on why Mae is going after the Jedi? The two sisters were split up, to be sent to be trained at different sects. The Jedi who sent Mae are her marks, as she blames them for her sisters death. Who is the Master? No clue yet, but splitting up twins and sending one to be taught by darksiders seems like a terrible idea
I think that's the problem with disney is their audience skews a little younger, and so yeah sometimes the characters do seem a bit dumb, but then again i'm in my 30s so maybe its time to let go of that. Plus we have andor :)
@@GenerationTech True, Andor is more for adults.
While watching the Fallout show, I was constantly wondering why everyone but the Ghoul had intelligence as a dump stat. So seeing it again made me tired
Nothing ever says they sent Mae to be trained idk where you're getting that. At the same.time they took Osha to train as a Jedi (agaik, we dlnt know the circumstances, why they were there, anything. As far as we know this was a random encounter we have so little specific information rn), Mae acted out against them and destroyed the village, from what we've been told so far. Nothing about them being sent to different sects or any of that.
Idk we already know who did it
@@cloudmaster182 You are right, there are absolutely no signs or hints to the jedi being responsible. It is also my take or theory. Feel free to disagree
I’m interested to see where the story goes. The thing the Jedi did is going to be challenging to make bad enough to justify their deaths but also be excused. It’ll probably be a “certain point of view” thing.
The first two episodes were pretty good. I haven't read any High Republic era books so my expectations, even for a lifelong fan, are low.
I do like the murder mystery aspect and I hope they lean heavy into it while fleshing out this era.
If they can explore some current topics along the way, I'm all for it if it's good storytelling.
Having twin Force users is seperated due to a past traumatic event is a not so subtle nod to the Skywalkers and I like it.
Yord is my favorite so far, he follows Osha and finally comes around to believing and maybe trusting her.
There was some drama about Yord's actor not being knowledgeable enough about star wars and I feel like it fits his character. He seems fresh out of the padawan ranks and doesn't have as much understanding of the Jedi and the Order as the masters we've seen did. I think a character like this would have been really hard for someone like a Sam Witwer (and I love Sam's work in the star wars universe!) who just knows so much about it.
His ignorance actually makes his portrayal of the character better.
Yeah I mean Tony gilroy openly admitted he wast a Star Wars fan and that probably why andor was so great . When you love something too much you tend to suffocate it.
@@GenerationTech yeah exactly. There's an art to picking show runners here. Filoni understands the heros journey really well. Tony Gilroy understands gritty spy thrillers. If you swapped what shows they're making it neither would be able do as well with it because it doesn't lend to their expertises.
Possibly, but.... 🤫 Don't encourage them
@@GenerationTech movie, " Batman: Begin "
Was first a crime movie, that they just insert Batman into.
Around 18 or so years ago at the factory I was working at, some people complained that Will Smith never got his Superman movie. Handcock was ok but it wasn't Superman. I pointed out a few movies Will Smith played a reporting journalist that got caught up in government class backroom corruption. Very serious stuff and not his normal comedy. His characters in those movies was little to no different than what Lois & Clark gets caught up in on a monthly bases.
This was at the time the movie and novel of RotS came out.

@@GenerationTechand don’t forget how much Harrison Ford “loves” Star Wars…
SO far i'm really liking it. TO, it feels s the first Star Wars show to actually feel like a tv show. It's not trying to be some grand Epic styler movie shoehorned into a TV series.
Andor feels like a TV show too.
Sol is the best character. He almost reminds me of qui gon. Other than that, I think the other characters need to be fleshed out more

@@flamsey When she's talking to the meditating guy. Although he chose to kill himself instead of reveal his crimes.
I'm intrigued. I enjoyed the episodes, and the clear establishment of duality as a theme of the series: two titles, two sisters etc. but most importantly (especially to those commenting so far about the show having a fast pace) the "two stories" - the surface one which is running quick: chasing down may, but then the slower one building in the background: what did the 4 jedi do on may and oshas home world? What did they do that some dark side user is willing to risk exposure (as far as we're aware so far) for this truth to be revealed? So if we're blasting through the usual "she did it, no she didn't, OH HUT SHES OVER THE DEAD BODY SO SHE DID IT, but now I believe that she didn't" it's because, that isn't the true story, it's just the surface level stuff.
Honestly, I enjoyed it. Didn’t love it but just like the other shows, it really just a movie broken up.
It's all right. I agree, it's *far* from perfect, especially considering everything that's happening behind the scenes, especially the director and main actress and their comments about fans.
I'm only watching for Lee Jung-jae; I like his character of Jedi Master Sol.
And so I can gain receipts and form my own opinions about the show.
Not to mention who Lesley headland even is 👀
I don't think anyone should let the actors or director's views or what not affect their entertainment of the show, this is quite odd because in any other series, people just ignore what a director or actors have to say if they don't like it.
7:21 the fact that he learned the whole as language makes his performance even more impressive to me.
Man, that was a great little monologue on politics and society. It really is amazing to think about the differences that could be made if we all just stopped being angry at each other and tried to find the common grounds. The most vocal and annoying people about politics on either side are the minority. I think most people would find out that they agree with one another if they just took the time to talk. We all share a lot of common goals. I grew up with a very abrasively conservative father who is so obsessed about making sure the "libs" get owned as much as possible. But when I stepped out of the echo chamber, I came to find out that the every day democrats/liberals out there were mostly good and honest people that just see life differently. It's nice to have quiet and honest discussion with people to learn about different world views and beliefs, it can either help you see the way you think more clearly or maybe change your position a little.
As far as The Acolyte goes, I wasn't really psyched about this going into it with all the press surrounding it, but having watched the first two episodes I was actually pretty captivated by the story. As you stated, a fresh take. I love Master Sol and Yord as a character is endearing in a goofy way. Guy is just trying to be the difference in the universe but hasn't quite figured out how to do it so he is just awkward about it. The musical cues were really nice, very evocative of the prequel trilogy, same for the sound design imho. Was very cool to see Coruscant "back in the day" as well. The show so far is a very Star Wars-ian tale with Star Wars-y vibes. No obtrusive political messaging, just a sci-fi show about space wizards and laser swords.
Yoooo! I was prepared for anything, expectations relatively cautious-- and I REALLY ENJOYED the first 2 episodes of The Acolyte. I'm actually going to rewatch them later because it was a good time. Really enjoying how much martial arts is in the show. Looking forward to more episodes.
I like the characters and especially the set design. This looks like Star Wars and it's beautiful. They put alot of love into the sets, unlike eg in Kenobi. The story could be a better tho and I dont really think theres enough mystery for now
I appreciate the honesty you show your viewers allen.
Good summary here. I'm OK with the show so far and I agree with your earlier comments about woman running this show and how it matters not.
I think the first 2 episodes were pretty good.
THANK YOU FOR POINTING OUT THE ZAYNE CARRICK PARALLELS!
Im liking it, jedi in their prime, good action, different planets. The Jedi masters are falling a bit easy but lets see how it goes
I'm--kinda excited. A somewhat entertained skeptic who wants to believe. I'm a writer, and wonder if the issue with the Disney stories regarding the legacy characters that existing cannon, characterizations, and expectations prevent the writers (who might not necessarily be the biggest star wars fans themselves) from telling the story they truly want. Instead of embracing those restraints to tell a great story that they may not enjoy, I could see how writers would use the opportunity to tell the story they want to anyway.
I overall enjoyed the first two episodes. Have to dock a few points for the opening text not being displayed in Crawl format but I was probably way too happy for no reason that there was a Selkath in the background of the first episode XD
yeah i noticed that i guess they're saving that for the movies?
@@GenerationTech Most likely. Same thing happened with Rogue One and Solo so it might even just be specifically the main series of movies that they're doing that for.
But it just feels off without it scrolling. I don't think every show necessarily needs a pre-show text message saying what's currently going on in the universe but, if you're going to have it and it's more than a single sentence, just have it scroll :P
Still. This is a very minor nitpick that I really only mentioned so that my review wasn't too positive. If this is the worse complaint they get from me once all episodes have aired, then I think we have a good show on our hands haha
@@RobertHinchey I like how it distinguishes itself from the movies like that but still retains the format of the "A Long Time Ago..." text. When they did the red for Ahsoka I was hype.
@@RobertHinchey and tbh with the time jump backwards I thought it was helpful to briefly state the setting and what not
@@aeddan_1233 Fair. And like I said, it's just a minor nitpick. I personally still would have preferred the scroll in this case but it doesn't ruin the show for me or anything.
And I do agree, because of the time jump, the brief statement was definitely needed in this case scroll or no
The first 2 episodes was okay. 7/10
This is the correct take
Too many people saying it’s HORRIBLE or AMAZING, but really it’s just above average/good
6-7 out of 10
@@baybears9507 made 5 mins of the first ep and turned it off due to the stupid of the "assassin"

@@finzard887 you either catch the audience or you don't. if you don't catch the audience you lose the eyes. I have better things to do than grant my attention to crap, and an "assassin" strolling into a crowded bar to issue a challenge is crap.
@kertagin1 I feel you. I'm watching the show yet so I'm not talking about the show. But a good show will Captivate you within the first few minutes, and as an author that's definitely the toughest part about writing a book, not imagine it's the same as the movies. That's why I loved about Andor so much, because as soon as it turned on I love the cinematography and the theme and Vibe and stuff.
Seen 4 polls on this show and it’s being bombed by people who ain’t watched it
It’s more lore stop complaining you little shits
well, I actually liked it a lot, would even call it very good. Well done to Headland. I was fully expecting to not like it. turns out it much better than the pre-publicity made it sound. I'm happy with this so far. the music is good too, Rolling Stone was full of crap on that. Casting is very good, acting solid. Only note I would give is that they should g8ive us a little more scenery, add ~2-3 minutes run time. There's a wipe cut in ep1 that they should have held the scenery for a 3 count before the wipe, but that's a minor issue easily fixed in an extended re-issue someday. Just more scenery please is my only ask. As for the nature of the jedi, they seem fine so far to me, sure they're going to have laws beyond "the will of the force" that's not a "deal-breaker" it would be necessary for them to follow sound legalisms to operate in a complex modern "free" civilization. Opening I had a moment of psychosomatic popcorn flavor, so it "felt" like star wars ;-) I was sold by about ~25 minutes in. I'm pleasantly surprised. and Actually rather than the all-too-common "plot tactic" of just having "dumb" things happen that don't make sense, the Jedi are right on the money and believe her right away and actually are smart enough to change their minds about what's up. Rare to see "good guys" not acting dumb, happy to see that.
Alan, you should get the boardgame Star Wars Rebellion or Star Wars Outer Rim and play record your session with. Can make your own Star Wars story, and when knowing the lore, can make it so much fun.
I was a little bit apprehensive about it going in but so far it is pretty good, in my opinion.
I genuinely love your monologues and lessons you pull from Star Wars. You have a deep understanding of not just the lore of the story, but the intention behind what George created. And we all need those lessons. Keep it up brother!! 👊
I’m confused that a small metal dagger can kill force users but apparently a lightsaber that goes through the torso will never kill a Star Wars character.
The dagger went straight into her heart, whereas a lightsaber instantly cauterises a wound.
You really must work the critical organs, or take the head off.
In the case of, say, Sabine surviving, I think we might end up learning that Shin Hati didn't actually want to kill her... 🌮✂🌮😏
@@moneyandbones The lightsaber doesn't cauterize wounds. Look at the blood mist that clouded around Maul when he was cut in half or the blood on Obi-Wan's cuts when Dooku sliced him or the splash of blood from Ponda Baba when Obi-Wan sliced his arm off.
The truth has been spoken. Wish they they used more story elements from the EU.
@@moneyandbones If it had *actually* gone into her heart, she'd have a gushing chest wound. Combine with the fact that the knife 1. Was quite small and 2. Still embedded inside her (reducing the bleeding even further), and even a normal human would have been more than capable of stumbling out of the bar and down the street a ways before sitting down or falling over.
Also, ever heard of a "rib cage"? It's designed to protect the heart.
The power of the plot armour forgotten you have...
totally agree about the sith master voice. maybe could of been fixed if it was in a different language like huttese or something new
I think they’re deliberately keeping who it is under wraps, so another language would’ve been less effective. I’ve seen people speculate that Mae’s accomplice who gave her the poison is actually her Master.
@@Mr-Rinn lol not much of a mystery they literally tell and show you the bad twin is the murderer who has a master and accomplice. and we know all this by ep 2, and a different language wouldn't mean anything in the 'Disney galaxy' where quarren's can speak perfect english/basic with absolutely no accent that might give their race away.
@@lithographer We don’t know who the Master is, what exactly he is or why exactly he wants Mae to kill one of her targets without a weapon.
such intrigue. im sure that will fix his (imo) dumb voice.
@@lithographer Don’t like it, don’t watch it.
I tend to ignore the critics anyway, but I enjoyed the 1st two episodes. I am curious to see where it goes.
And I agree 100% on the state of our world. I am one of the older generations (Gen X- '78) who thinks social media, and what it has done to our species, is ridiculous. We are ridiculous creatures for letting it happen. If it weren't for the fact that it is destroying civilization, it would be quite amusing.
Masters Sol and Qui-Gon both represent the key aspect that the Jedi had lost over their millennia of degradation and stagnation: compassion. Real, genuine compassion cannot exist without emotion, but it must be moderated with wisdom. Thousands of years of peace and the isolation of the Jedi from the suffering on individual levels across the galaxy led them to complacency, it made them a step removed from the galaxy at large. That disconnection destroys the capacity for compassion. That's what I take from their portrayals, at least.
It wasn't bad at all. The over-the-top hate is a bit absurd.
Especially considering a lot of the hate came before anyone has even seen an episode.
Some SW "fans" are the worst.
A lot of SW fans ironically like to give into hate
@@keithck3720 Well after all the Garbage Disney has put out in SW, I can understand why they hate.
@@MrRich2u SW has ALWAYS been a mixed bag, whether it was Lucas or Disney. Both eras have good and bad content.
Stop looking at the Lucas era with rose coloured glasses. Prequels are mostly bad. ROTJ was fine I suppose but would've made so much more sense if it was Wookies instead of Ewoks. Even as a kid I couldn't suspend my disbelief that cannibal teddy bears could defeat the Empire.
@@keithck3720Disney have a god awful track record, you can't blame people for questioning and judging the shows before they come out, that's the point of marketing and advertising. It's to give you something you can judge the content on before the full show releases

Ill give it 4 episodes before i make any solid decisions. I had to push through those first 3 episodes of Andor to get jnto it. So far the acolyte is interesting.
I like it so far. I'm hoping Mae is trying to follow some kind of old sith doctrine of not getting a lightsaber until you've killed a jedi
I applaud your middle of the ground view when it comes to star wars and even real life. It’s hard to stand in the middle and try to get both sides to see each other with compassion. Ultimately it’ll end up going the way of Attack On Titan, each group is so enraged by what the other has done that the only way to reconcile is if they each have an opportunity to destroy each other. Humanity is doomed because deep down we all have evil in us. The most true and noble person has a skeleton in their closet and the most evil person has done good at one point in their life. It doesn’t matter who is more good all that matters is who can manipulate the situation in their favor, good or bad, that’s who ends up winning. But winning isn’t everything. It’s a shame people find that out too late.
First off, your channel is my favorite SW related channel. I am curious if you or any of the other SW reviewing channels would be upfront if you truly didn't enjoy one of the new Disney SW shows.
I find the best ones tend to be open about both what they did like and what they didn't like. At least offer up criticism without being slathered in outright hatred. Even I am willing to criticize Star Wars shows and movies without it dripping hatred. It's fine to criticize something you love, but it makes absolute zero sense to hate something you "used" to love but have lost your fandom of continuously just to express anger. Move on already.
I would say most of the channels slam Disney SW more than applaud it. Allen seems to be pretty balanced… he didn’t recommend Kenobi, FWIW.
@@andrewsimpson4782
Alan is one of those fellows who is forgiving and optimistic to a fault, I suspect this will be another wheel of time or rings of power situation, where it started off a little rocky but still perfectly salvageable, and then took a nose dive.
@@andrewsimpson4782 Yeah, and I tend to stay away from the Toxic channels. I don't need all that negativity.
I did like the Kenobi show, although I did acknowledge its faults. Andor was very different in its presentation, and as I enjoy "long term storytelling", I enjoyed it more than many. The same goes with BoBF.... while I think there could have been a better way of switching between "past/current day" events, I got used to it easily enough. I also realized why there was a couple of "side episodes" with Din Djarin.... because what Boba was doing would have been boring as Hell to watch, and spoiled the "ride the rancor" scene in the finale.
I've seen plenty of other RUclipsrs big and small hating on this show. There's plenty that are honest about not enjoying it.
I've been following you for some years now, but I must say I applaud your mature point of view.. finally subscribed. I too am cautiously optimistic about the show.
I really liked the start of this show. Politics wasnt pushed down our throats, the trio of jedi were really likable, the mystery of the siblings and the sith is really hooking and i love the reliance on physical sets instead of cgi. I also like the way the show has portrayed jedi: some are arrogant and flawed, some really down to earth and likable. All in all, great start and my fiath has been restored for the acolyte
The Acolyte feels - to me, a lot like Darth Plagueis, which is one of my favourite EU books. So I'm feeling optimistic.
Is it really that good? I tried reading it but never got hooked
@@mustafaalam6083i think you two just like different types of star wars
How does it feel like plagueis? Not arguing I’m just genuinely curious.
@@mustafaalam6083 It intertwines with Phantom Menace. If you read them together, it makes both better. But on its own Plagueis is THAT good.
@@sLADE8108 I think it's mostly reminds me of the first third of the book - with the mixing of force users with lower-scale stakes. Like the Woebegone in Plagueis & The Murder Investigation in these first episodes.
Alan.. you are so wise and a breath of fresh air in this toxic online wasteland world! Thank you for your message and open mindedness!
I liked the start. I am hopeful it would go places and give this franchise more perspective and expand the world building in a nice way. Not childishly simple, but not necessarily as mature and somber as Andor. Although I love Andor the best because of how different it is in contrast with the rest of the Star Wars Media
I liked this show honestly and I really look forward to the next episode.
First two episodes felt rushed. I wish there was more mystery. During half of the first episode I thought either osha was either a twin, or bipolar. Too bad they reveal it right away.
Also 2 of the 4 targeted jedi already died in first 2 episodes. There's 6 left
Well Sol isn’t exactly gonna be easy to kill, we’ve already seen Mae can’t really overpower him (yet) and I feel like that target thing is gonna lead to something bigger (hopefully). I'll definitely keep an open mind and see how the rest turns out
I think the reveal (and the murders) point to a much deeper mystery that's going to be revealed as the series goes on. There's a reason that they dropped 2 episodes at the same time, and that has been consistent across all of the shows they've done that with.
I also sense that we're getting a lot of misdirection to start with. Both Mae and Osha aren't as "cut and dry" as they first appeared. I'm going to watch it a few more times, to see what else I can spot before I do my own synopsis of the show. I tend to pay deep attention to something on the first couple of viewings, and try to connect things. It's why I don't do well as a Reactor, because very little surprises me, and my brain is busy trying to absorb every detail. I do better as a "discussion" type.
That’s not bipolar, do you even know what that means? 😂
@@Jimjumjimmy well at least have DID
Eh, it woulda gotten *really* boring if they tried to stretch *that* out as a 'mystery,' but it was clearly enough to drag Osha into all this, the mistaken identity thing.
I had very low expectations but I ended up enjoying quite a bit. It felt a bit like the prequels to me.
Balance is essential in all things. Even politics. Hell, especially politics
I'm gonna give it a shot, im actually about to watch it now. This was a very nice episode. I agree with most of what you said. The issue, people are too quick to call you the most vile names if you don't agree with them. Instead of just respecting your opinion. That's why if I know a person is gonna have a different opinion, I tell them I will hold them responsible for their words they say to me. I've fought, killed, and almost died way too many times for this country to be treated like trash.

Watched the first episode. This feels like "The Rings Of Power" of Star Wars. The characters have lightsabers, they talk about the Force; but it doesn't feel connected or even in the same creative realm. Maybe after all episodes are available, I'll revisit... but it doesn't feel likely. Not slamming the show, the actors, or anything specific about it other than it just doesn't FEEL like Star Wars.
Star Wars needs a horror movie
What Disney has done to Star Wars *is* a horror movie, my friend.
I would nominate the Dark Troopers to be that movie

I watched the first two episodes today and i can say it was a great start
I really liked it overall. More than I expected to. Curious to see where it goes and the characters were done very well, which is important since they’re all brand new.
So far, from what has been released... I like it.
generation tech always has a very good understanding of star wars, & i really feel like more star wars fans gotta tap into their content, very eye opening, not just reviewing a show based on if he likes it or not, but actually analyzing it, something a lot of star wars fans, especially older fans, just dont do. That being said, i liked the show so far & i really hate when ppl, especially star wars fans, just can’t separate feelings & politics.
In the defense of “reactionaries”, they are reacting to things i.e. ignoring the fact that things were done a particular way for a particular reason to fit a particular worldview is the equivalent of sticking your head in the sand. The show can be good despite that though.
I love your takes and explanations in every video you make man, keep it up! I’m staying optimistic about this show but I’m still very unsure, the cliffhanger endings are a buzzkill for sure!
My sons are coming over Saturday and we'll watch it then. Thanks for the video!
It feels like the prequels with a different genre twist. It may not be the best thing ever so far but it’s much better than a lot of other Star Wars projects so I’m excited for what’s to come!
These politicians have been using the "divide and conquer" strategy, and these poor pawns keep falling for it all.

I was entertained. I didn't have any expectations or keeping a lore-score list. I enjoyed that the Jedi appear to be more human and less like a cult of robots without their own mind. From a stylistic point of view I think they really managed showing a logical predecessor of how technology and design could be a predecessor to what we've seen in the prequels. It feels like it is 80-100 years earlier.
But...they all speak in a monotone, nearly robotic voice...
@@battlefieldelite1 yes, it was definitely not perfect. Maybe a better way to describe my thoughts would have been, that they were less dogmatic. I guess I would be speaking in a calm, monotone voice if I would be meditating the whole day and go on pleasure cruises throughout the galaxy like the jedi did in that time period.
Master Thormund was super fascinating to me. He and maybe Kelnacca must have felt they failed horrifically enough for one master to commit suppuku.
