[Spoiler] For my grandparents, the theory of eugenics was as self-evident as gravity. Luckily, in my lifetime, this pernicious pseudo-science is now universally discredited. So modern viewers of certain old mysteries may be bewildered when the hero solves the crime by discovering the "murder" gene in one of the suspects. And a delicious irony in this movie may also be overlooked. In this case, the murders *do* originate genetically. But instead of eugenics, the origin is a mutation due to inbreeding in a family obsessed with... eugenics.
