Maurice everything you make is amazing. I just sit there completely content watching your videos. Inlay by hand with no C&C machine. Sitting there and hand planing until it fits just right. A true craftsman. I seriously am jealous of your shop. Using a forstner bit with the depth set to remove the center material I wouldn't have thought of that. I would have used a router and lost my fence going to deep into the wood. You're the man!
+joe brown Hi Joe! Wondered if and when you'd show up ;-) Nice to have you here! Yes, a cnc would have been a nice tool to use in a project like this. But, since I don't have one I have to use what I do have. (my two hands included) Thanks Joe!
+Maurice Blok Lol I am getting late alerts on your videos for some reason. Idk what's going on with it my email isn't alerting me anymore either. No worries I didn't miss it. Look forward to your next Video.
Dear Maurice: Thanks a lot for let us all to watch you working. Is a real pleasure to see the passion and perfection you live while working. Thanks a lot for let us learn just watching. A hug from South America.
I finally understand why anything with real wood, crafted by hand, is so bloody expensive. Totally worth the money, now that I see the amount of effort put into it. Great craftsmanship! Is this available for sale? And is it customisable?
+Debbie Chen quite a few wrote me and asked if it's for sale and or customisable. I made this one for myself and consider it a novelty item/ project. So far after two hands full of inquiries no one actually ordered one. And besides, there would be safer ways ( due to expansion and contraction of the wood in different climates and seasons) to make a protective case
I've got a deep appreciation for what you do. I'm no woodworker but it looks as if you put a lot of passion into your work and its apparent from the attention to detail you put. Just wanted to say thanks for uploading these videos!
This is what I love about youtube, I build a brilliant idea in my head, then think now, someone better than me has already put 100 times more thought into it, let's go see what they've got, pure brillliance mate! What a world we have
I always get that tingle when I see someone who is obviously passionate in their work... your concentration cannot be overlooked. I mean, look at his eyes when he's doing it!
way to miss the point. Sometimes its just nice to make a beautiful thing. All I can say is bravo sir,as always your videos are a relaxing delight, craftsmanship mixed with sublime music, bravisimo to you!
you have no idea how much i love this piece. ive been obsessed with woodworking my entire life. absolutely love the piece. I absolutely love the workshop too. Its magical place.
How the hell does this get any thumbs down? Nice woodwork and well-done video. As of today, there are 73 people have identified as the north end of a south-going pig. Nicely done. I'd love to give this a go myself.
Maurice, I just stumbled upon your channel and your videos are great. I love the feel of your shop and your style in your projects. The case looks excellent, keep up the good work.
Great job. I couldn't peel my eyes off, almost hypnotic. Did you use epoxy to plug the cracks on the wood? What did you use to color it? Thanks for posting!
+Tomy Covington Hey Tomy! The case is intended for transportation. Not for working on the computer when its in the case. (Though I think one could, my laptop's fan only runs when I do video rendering :-)
Hello, would using a solid oak sheet to make the majority of the case work or would there be a risk of warping? Do you have any methods of reducing warping? Thanks, and I hope you make more videos like this soon!
+Alex Avery Wood movement will always occur when using solid wood. I believe the best one can do is to use wood with as little stress in it as possible. The Birch I've used has been air drying for six/ seven years, was then moved to an indoor shelter for a further 3 to 4 years. Then it has been in my (heated) shop for a further 3 years. When dimensioning the wood (which includes resawing on the bandsaw) I let the wood rest so that through every step in the dimensioning the wood has the possibility to move, before taking it to it's final dimensions. That way one eliminates big surprises. That said, if I would walk with the case through the rain or if I'd leave it next to the fireplace, movement will occur guaranteed. Thanks for showing interest Alex. If any further questions, please ask. MB
Many thanks for you quick and informative response. I look forward to making my own case and using your advice of allowing the wood to rest. I wish you all the best in your future endeavours!
Wow! Such fine handiwork! You are such a perfectionist and you put such care into every step of that process. The end product is beautiful. You make me appreciate woodworking and handmade items more and more! Subscribing now!
Nice to see at 2:14. I have the same sanding machine .... and i must say that i am not really happy with it. My machine is from Bernardo and it is exactly the same. I even have the identic "rollers". You do a real good job. Looks great.
Great work! I was wondering: what did you use for the lining? Simply felt? And, secondly, did you treat it with something at the and or were you just rubbing away any lint (that may have been on the 'virgin'-felt)?
Awesome piece of work Maurice! How well does it stay closed when you are carrying it? Maybe a pair of magnets may help? You chose some gorgeous timber to make it too :)
+Henrys Workshop I did plan on installing a latch of some kind, opting for neodymium magnets but as all is such a nice fit, snapping the lid closed, there is no need. Thanks for the compliments Henry!
How did you clean up the felt interior after all the dust and debris from your work? I see you rubbing the interior at on point with a cloth? Perhaps a black polish?
+knives&stuff Hoi Maarten! The Birch I've used is flamed. (gevlamd Berken) This was harvested locally and has been air dried for a decade. Then I had it in the shop for three years.
Fantastic!! I would like to do this. I have a question. You state that the hinges open to 93 degrees. Just what I'm looking for. Where did you get them? Thanks.
+Jim Hester The hinges you see in the video I purchased off of EBay (UK) they are quality hinges with no play in them whatsoever, are pinned with stainless steel and were installed in a breeze. Screws are not included Though to mention that I have no affiliation with the seller. Check the following link: m.ebay.co.uk/itm/brass-jewellery-box-hinges-/281853364050?nav=SEARCH
Great work, clean shop and a nice video with no talking, just work. I am afraid the laptop would overheat in the case though. But....you can buy parts to make your own laptop and just install them into a similar box...sell for massive cash :)
Amazing process and so well captured on video! I've watched this many times over the past year since I first came across it and I've sent it to many of my friends and family. One question I have is, what is it that you use in the finishing process? Is it simply a stain or something different? Danish oil or something similar? That ended up being three questions :-)
Actually don't waste your time on me sir. You've included the finish you used in the video description like the professional that you clearly are. Thanks again for these beautiful videos.
Maurice Blok I like it. It's like going to the barber shop and seeing their electric razors with vacuums. It makes me wonder why these aren't standard everywhere.
Maurice hope all is well Happy New Year. I check every week for a new project video from ya in case youtube hasn't alerted me. Also I want your table saw lol. Looking forward to new projects from you in the coming year.
Maurice, where would I get those style hinges? I like the brass look. I am starting to make finger jointed walnut boxes and the kerf hinges (90-95 degrees) are OK but I would like to approach the hinge style used in your construction. V Rolfe Chicago
I can't speak good english, but I hope you unterstand me. You are a great woodworker and you have a nice workshop .Your tools are great (my table saw is a Metabo thks 315 2,8dnb) I' m from Germany.
+security2011XXL I purchased them from eBay, (British made) jewelry box hinges but unfortunately they aren't available anymore from where I bought them. They were pricey at about fifty sterling pounds per pair but worth it. You get what you pay for
I found that a really relaxing video to watch. Nice case, very well crafted. Great vid, thanks for sharing. Oh, can I have your shop and machines please!?

Abrazo.
Great job. I spent half the video looking at your beautiful workshop and coveting your tools.
I finally understand why anything with real wood, crafted by hand, is so bloody expensive. Totally worth the money, now that I see the amount of effort put into it. Great craftsmanship! Is this available for sale? And is it customisable?

Excellent video! Wonderful shop/studio! Gorgeous project/case!!!
+Artismia Thanks Brandon! I can't wait til next April! VEDA (=vain) will be on, right?!
+Maurice Blok :) Ha! Maybe. . . now that I know of 2 (of 7) people who get a kick out of my wallvlogs. :)
Oh yes!
Good job, sir! The finished product and the video are both really good. Your shop is pretty impressive as well!
Beautiful work, just unsure how practical it is for actual use. How much does it weigh?
+Abdullah87 It's a novelty item. Weights 1,1 kilograms
way to miss the point. Sometimes its just nice to make a beautiful thing. All I can say is bravo sir,as always your videos are a relaxing delight, craftsmanship mixed with sublime music, bravisimo to you!

Beautiful work! And man, your shop is amazing!
+Stew Pidass Thank you!
How the hell does this get any thumbs down? Nice woodwork and well-done video. As of today, there are 73 people have identified as the north end of a south-going pig.
Nicely done. I'd love to give this a go myself.
;-)
Great job my friend. Love your attention to detail. Thanks for making all these great videos too. I know a lot of hard work goes into making them.
+Knocking Down Wood Your comment is much appreciated, Thanks
As a craftsman myself, I must recognize great work when i see it! My hats off to you sir!
when case is nicer than a laptop
Maurice, I just stumbled upon your channel and your videos are great. I love the feel of your shop and your style in your projects. The case looks excellent, keep up the good work.

Beautifull creation and great craftmanship. Thank you for sharing.

the videos are shot so eloquently!
+chris winter Eloquently?! Wow Chris! Thanks you for watching and commenting, so much appreciated!
Great job. I couldn't peel my eyes off, almost hypnotic. Did you use epoxy to plug the cracks on the wood? What did you use to color it? Thanks for posting!
+ricardo botero Epoxy yes. Finnish described below the video
Fantastic, man.
Exactly what I was looking for. I will try to make one. As soon as it be finished I send you the result. Greetings from Brazil.
+Charles Sannas Yeah! Would be really nice to see your results.
I am really impressed by your craftsmanship
Beautiful workshop, do you sell the pieces you make?
Some are commissioned pieces, some I do for fun
Amazing piece as usual...Wondering if there would be overheating issue though? do you take it out the case before using?
+Tomy Covington Hey Tomy! The case is intended for transportation. Not for working on the computer when its in the case. (Though I think one could, my laptop's fan only runs when I do video rendering :-)
That's gorgeous. Nicely done.
Beautiful!!

You have confused the planer for the belt sander?
Great work!
I was wondering: what did you use for the lining? Simply felt? And, secondly, did you treat it with something at the and or were you just rubbing away any lint (that may have been on the 'virgin'-felt)?
Thick felt and indeed, you see me cleaning off some wood shavings and lint. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Top quality job! Well done!
So glad you did this. I was thinking about something similar, but for a Surface Tablet and a Mechanical keyboard.
Awesome piece of work Maurice! How well does it stay closed when you are carrying it? Maybe a pair of magnets may help? You chose some gorgeous timber to make it too :)

Wooden laptop cases are so amazing.

Cut & glue ;-)
Maurice Blok if only it were that simple...
Maurice Blok and sand, sand the shit out of it.
one of the best woodworkers i have ever seen. i am impressed. glad i found your videos.
Amazing! It look so beautiful! Does all the birch wood look like that? Very impressive shop and machines!
+knives&stuff Hoi Maarten! The Birch I've used is flamed. (gevlamd Berken)
This was harvested locally and has been air dried for a decade. Then I had it in the shop for three years.
Keep it coming man, these are getting better and better!

+Maurice Blok Thanks, Maurice. I'll do it.
That is awesome! Well done! Douglas
+RetroWeld Thanks Douglas!
Beautiful piece. I love the different wood colors working together. Also, I really like your hair, especially in the bun :)
Your subscriber count is about to shoot up from that one!! Keep making these videos please!
Absolutely stunning! Beautiful craftsmanship.
excellent work. Think you could make one with a handle and a heat sink?
If you can think it, I can make it
Beautiful Maurice. Nice work
Beautiful case and video! Do you ever sell what you make? Would love to buy one :)
Finally found you! This video got me into woodworking!
Now im starting an aprentice ship as a cabinetmaker.
Great work, clean shop and a nice video with no talking, just work. I am afraid the laptop would overheat in the case though. But....you can buy parts to make your own laptop and just install them into a similar box...sell for massive cash :)
+ot0m0t0 it'd be nice for travel tho
+Pierre Stromae It is intended for travel indeed. I had, but lost, a neoprene sleeve and made this as a personal alternative.
Amazing process and so well captured on video! I've watched this many times over the past year since I first came across it and I've sent it to many of my friends and family. Wow, beautiful work! Am jealous of your massive belt sander...
+Tyler G I surprise myself how often I use it, it is a really nice addition to the shop!
I do like that vacuum hose you have placed above the saw blade. That's brilliant.
+Alexander Childs To my knowledge this is standard on European saws.
+joe brown Hey Joe! The best wishes to you too. New video'll be up soon. (I consider you my biggest connoisseur, thanks Joe)
You're welcome Bro
nice work, great workmanship. Where can I get those brass hinges.
+Junior Sosa www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281884815426
Wow, what a beautiful case. Nice work!
+Bruce B Thanks Bruce!
Fantastic project. Did laptop overheated when using it in that case?
+klaywert I had a sleeve for my laptop that I only used when transporting the laptop but I lost it. Then I made this case :-) Thanks!
woooaaaaah! I was so amazed and in a trance you take your craftsmanship serious! Whoo!
Thanks Ana!

Looks great! How heavy is it? It looks like something that would weigh quite a bit.
+jonathan_g Good question! Just took it to the kitchen scale and it's 1100 grams/ 2 pounds, 6.8 ounces
Wonderful presentation and finished work!!! How many hours did spend on this particular project? (Curious)
+Tinkeralch Difficult to accurately answer as I Shot the process on video meanwhile. Maybe three to four hours. Thanks for watching!
I am going to build a similar case. I like the way the computer fits in there. What are the dimensions of everything?
all way around 6mm thicker then the laptop
Maurice, where would I get those style hinges? I like the brass look. I am starting to make finger jointed walnut boxes and the kerf hinges (90-95 degrees) are OK but I would like to approach the hinge style used in your construction. V Rolfe Chicago
the case will outlive the laptop
it's a macbook even one of the stripes of sanding paper will last more
who said gaming laptops were better?
lol stop being so defensive, he never said mac was bad :P
Everything outlives a laptop!
OU812 that is true
Wow very nice, I was wondering, would the laptop over heat in the case?
I don't know really. I use it for transportation only
That is absolutely impressive work! Way to go man. I'll definitely subscribe and wait on the next video.
+João Caetano Thanks!
That is the type of shop I am striving towards! Great Video!
Could you give an estimated time it took you ?
Nice piece of work.
+grantlee77 Don't really know.. Maybe three or four hours
I can't speak good english, but I hope you unterstand me. You are a great woodworker and you have a nice workshop .Your tools are great (my table saw is a Metabo thks 315 2,8dnb) I' m from Germany.
+Jonas Kriegl Hi Jonas, I think your English is above average! Thank you for your kind words and have fun woodworking!
+Maurice Blok Thank you very much
Beautiful project and video as always Maurice! So I guess the next tool on my wish list is an arrow. A must have for any well equipped shop! HaHa.
+GuysWoodshop Hi Guy! Haha, it's a must have for every self respected woodworker!
Great video Maurice, my son thinks you're a great worker, and very fast.
+Mark Rhodes Thanks Mark! Thats the power of video & editing I guess.. :-)
Amazing, but I think its gonna be very difficult without professional tool like you got
tools*
It would take me more time to complete one, but it is very doable with just handtools!
amazing video! Great idea and design. I get the feeling that I want to try this myself!
Lovely piece of work.
Great job! Which hinge you use? I've never seen this kind of loop, as they are called and where can I buy them?
+security2011XXL I purchased them from eBay, (British made) jewelry box hinges but unfortunately they aren't available anymore from where I bought them. They were pricey at about fifty sterling pounds per pair but worth it. You get what you pay for
+Maurice Blok no no no, I got what I paid for ;-)
I found that a really relaxing video to watch. Nice case, very well crafted. Great vid, thanks for sharing.
Oh, can I have your shop and machines please!?
Wow... stunning Maurice....
Beautiful! The only one problem is, now you have to stick with this laptop otherwise the new one would not fit the case! :)
+Csaba Facsar Then it's time for a new one!
Great job, You seem to be an good wood worker. Keep it up. :D
Really well done!
+FastEasySmartTOOL Thanks!
Love this. Just wondering how much does the case weigh?
+Ezra Kee 1,100 grams/ 2 pounds and 6.8 ounces
Wow stunning job!
Could you please tell me the dimensions of it?
Cheers
What is the thickness of the top and bottom and how thick are they after you remove the depth for the laptop itself?
where did you get those hinges called? or what are they called?
Great work anyway!
Excellent! I want this. 15.6" can do that for you? My computer is Toshiba Satellite L50.. Also how much would it cost?
sent you a pm
Nope, seems I can't send you a pm

Stunning, as always!
Always look forward to your videos!
+Toby Kennedy (thetobykennedy) Thanks!
Absolutely beautiful case and appreciate the professionally done video.
This was one of the most relaxing videos i have ever seen. And the case is amazing! You should start selling those :P

Great Looking Case. It looks perfect !!! Thanks for posting the build. I just subscribed. Looking forward to checking out more of your work.
