I dont really understand what this guy is talking about tbh, some of the tallest trees in the world were documented and are relatively easy to find. Almost all are in protected parks where it is illegal to log. The most harm ppl can really do to them is from excessive amounts of "tree hugging" which causes root compaction making the soil denser around the base of the tree and in turn harder for it to absorb water and nutrients. So yeah its not cool to like "expose" these locations, but to be fair the biggest ones are pretty far off the beaten path and are not really at risk of too many ppl gawking at them. Also the parks are not stupid they know where they are and close areas around some of the most pristine examples. Another aside, some of the tallest ones are not that impressive in width, so from the forest floor it really doesn't matter since you can only see like one half of the tree anyway.
Fun facts about redwoods: redwoods grow 2 inches every year, their seeds are as small as tomato seeds, and the worlds tallest redwood was born in mid-evil times and its still alive and growing today. So its over 2,000 years old!
there are actually two organisms larger than the tree. One is called Pando, it is a forest of trees connected in their roots, this helps them to be healthier by transporting water and nutrients through their roots. The other is a group of Armillaria Ostoyae (a type of fungus) Known as the "Humongous Fungus" That are also connected in their roots.

All of nature is. Just think about it for a second. Life has been evolving for billions of years on earth and we get to be here and experience the beautiful animals and plants that are all around us, purely through random chance, but many of us take that for granted.
The largest living organism is actually interlocking fungi in Oregon. It spans 2,384 acres, the type of fungus is honey mushrooms. Though these trees are very large, they are not the largest organism. Many other organisms are larger by weight, height and things, but this fungus is by area. Therefore the largest.
Yes, they are edible, but make sure you look up how to cook them and identify them VERY WELL. They can cause stomach aches for some people, and are not to be sautéed. They are very complex when it comes to cooking. Find a reliable website, and follow instructions closely.
I actually used to live up by the redwoods growing up so these trees were just normal and common to me. I figured most trees and forests must look like them, but now that I'm older and have since moved away I have a much greater appreciation for them. Really miss them now.
You'll only need about 40trillion.. But they don't cut down huge trees anymore and they also replant them at a way faster rate.. so it's already happening. Also those huge ones don't have good wood, they've usually got a lot of voids inside. Either way it's already happening.. I know the dude in the video is as good as Russia's and China's propaganda ministry, but he's only telling you half the facts to influence your outrage to gain support for himseld.
It might be the tallest organism, but there’s this Aspen Forest consisting of only one individual, which spread new trees by sprouts on its roots. It’s called Pando
If this hasn’t changed, I was told in the FFA that Quaky Aspen trees were the largest organism in the world because they’re all connected underground by their roots and are actually one living organism. I believe the biggest cluster of them is by Fish lake in Utah
This tree is the largest due to how tall it is. But the apsen clones and honey mushrooms are the largest in terms of area covered. Theres another largest by weight but i forget it.
Actually, this isn't the largest living organism. The largest living organism alive today is a colonial organism called Pando which is an entire forest made up by the same tree. The trees sprouts new trees from their roots, meaning not only are all of the tree connected, they all have the same genetic makeup making them all the same organism. Though Pando isn't techincally the LARGEST, its the HEAVIEST. The largest is a massive underground system of mycelium that belongs to a single fungus. It's really damn big. Both Pando and the fungus are much bigger than this tree, though this tree is definitely very very big.
This tree is the “tallest” so technically “largest” in that category. youre right about the rest just a different measure of massiveness. OP didnt parse that.
@@MeTrOiD241 Indeed, he didn't specify what category. I'm not trying to start an argument, just sharing some fun facts and correcting him in case someone wants to know what the real largest organisms are...
@@pairpunchgaming1394 they are protected, and yet people still go and poach them. there are plenty of trees that can be used for wood, especially on farms built for that purpose. i don't know if you understand, but cutting down the protected redwoods is a crime, you can go to jail for it
I went to a forest near Arnold on a trip one time, and we came across a redwood tree that was enormous. We saw the trunk first, and then the remains of the tree afterward. It had looked like it was cut down a while ago, and stripped of it’s bark. There was no plaque, or any ropes roping it off or anything, it was just there. It was the biggest tree I think I have ever seen, probably even a couple feet thicker than the ones shown on screen. I’m sure that if that tree were still living, it would be thicker in diameter than the General Sherman, which is so famously known for having the thickest trunk it California. I went and saw the General Sherman a year after we saw that tree, and I was honestly disappointed, because that redwood tree was so incredibly big.
I love going to Big Trees. I grew up in Calaveras and Tuolumne counties. My grandfather lives a few miles away from Arnold and has for the majority of his life. He takes us up and into the Stanislaus sometimes, and shows us all the amazing watering holes. It was an often experience when I was young. I always love the woods. I think it’s because my ancestors come from Trinity County. The longest residents in Weaverville
it should indeed be crime to cut down such a majestic tree. it gives this world something that it lacks a lot, the feeling of wonder when you gaze upon it.
They won’t cut it down because the wood is no good. Same for old growth cedar. It’s like an old animal the older the worse the meat same applies for trees.
Pando (Latin for "I spread")[1] is a clonal organism representing an individual male quaking aspen (Populus tremuloides). It was identified as a single living organism because its parts possess identical genetic markers[2] and it is assumed to have a massive interconnected underground root system. The plant is located in the Fremont River Ranger District of the Fishlake National Forest at the western edge of the Colorado Plateau in south-central Utah, United States, around 1 mile (1.6 km) southwest of Fish Lake.[3] Pando occupies 108 acres (43.6 ha) and is estimated to weigh collectively 6,000 tonnes (6,000,000 kg),[4] making it the heaviest known organism.[5][6]

As a matter of fact, earth's largest organism is a single fungus known as Armillaria solidipes (Honey fungus). Network of this fungus in the pacific northwest spans across over 9.6 km^2. This is equal to roughly 2384 acres, and is estimated to be over 2000 years old. And all of it is just single fungus.
It is unfortunate that so little of the old trees still exist, but the legacy of the redwoods are preserved for the time being. It was also found that areas of New Zealand have similar soil and climate to what is found to the North West redwood forest. With this, a group of redwoods that started in 1901 are prospering in the Whakarewarewa Forest in Rotorua. It was an enjoyable walk, they also have a nighttime walk which is pretty cool.
@@shindoko The three species are coastal redwoods, giant redwoods, and dawn redwoods. All under the sub-family Sequoioideae. The redwoods that are growing in the New Zealand forest I mentioned are giant redwoods, which are native to America's north west. The dawn redwoods are native to the Hupeh Province in China. There seems to be some dawn redwoods growing in New Zealand and North America, after the name of it was described and established in 1941. I don't know if the dawn redwoods have been grown in forests to the scale as the giant redwoods in Rotorua or California/Oregon. It would be fun to see!
@Abandoned_UsernameWhether we like it or not, the largest redwoods would be found either by seeing massive freaking trees from the view of mountains (such as hiking) or by technology advancing. The fungus was written about in the April 2003 issue of the Canadian Journal of Forest Research. While an accurate estimate has not been made, the total weight of the colony may be as much as 605 tons[vague]. If this colony is considered a single organism, then it is the largest known organism in the world by area, and rivals the aspen grove "Pando" as the known organism with the highest living biomass. It is not known, however, whether it is a single organism with all parts of the mycelium connected.[20] -Wikipedia
Another organism that rivals for the true spot as the largest living organism is the pando aspen grove as the largest biomass of any living organism as mentioned in the text, but what the text is referring to is the heaviest living organism on earth a colony of Armillaria ostoyae in the blue mountains of eastern Oregon as said in the text.

So yeah its not cool to like "expose" these locations, but to be fair the biggest ones are pretty far off the beaten path and are not really at risk of too many ppl gawking at them. Also the parks are not stupid they know where they are and close areas around some of the most pristine examples. Another aside, some of the tallest ones are not that impressive in width, so from the forest floor it really doesn't matter since you can only see like one half of the tree anyway.

there are actually two organisms larger than the tree. the universe does love them...
It's just some of us are selfish , childish an unappreciative - hence the state of the planet.

Is it good to eat?
Yes, they are edible, but make sure you look up how to cook them and identify them VERY WELL. They can cause stomach aches for some people, and are not to be sautéed. They are very complex when it comes to cooking. Find a reliable website, and follow instructions closely.

PROTECT THE TREES!
Those are a different type of redwood the same as the Chinese redwoods
You can take a high quality photo of anywhere on the surface of earth, and it's getting cheaper constantly. Something so massive would be found out eventually.

It is not known, however, whether it is a single organism with all parts of the mycelium connected.[20]

The mushrooms including water mass, Pando not including it.
The reason it’s called a single organism is because the species have a incredibly identical dna makeup.
@@toast7977 true but also they can be a singular organism if they are connected.
Also nice fact about Pando, it’s trees send nutrients to other trees in Pando to help keep everyone alive. They also all lose their leaves at the same time.
the largest organism is actually the honey fungus
