Scotty Kilmer. Hello, I love watching your videos a long time ago. You inspired me for cars. Recently, I was concerned about my car start-up. When the ignition is on the position, it'll turn on normal noise at the last second it would like shake or sputter a little, then start and I changed the spark plugs brand new. So I was wondering would it be the ignition coils or the battery? Because sometimes the fan would come up, sound like my car is about to turn off, but it doesn't when im in a stand still or idling, please help or give me some advice. I would really appreciate it
Years ago when I was a mechanic (went to school for it) at a local place, a customer had a truck towed in, that wouldn't start. Turned out it was just out of gas. The owner of the shop informed the customer that it needed a carb rebuild and tune-up, plug wires, everything. I quit after that and never worked in garage again. There were a few other things that happened that were dishonest practices with customers. I've always been my own mechanic, but now age is catching up and I find myself going to a shop now and then for large labor/specialty jobs. Love Scotty's channel. If I would have worked with a "Scotty" in my day, no doubt I would still be a mechanic today. That garage I mentioned, has since closed down.
Now,I'm too old to do that stuff for the most part and KNOW what they will do to me and I can't stop it and that REALLY pisses me off....In this case, ignorance IS Bliss...If you don't know they sodomized you,it's a lot easier to avoid going back to ***** the bastards...
That's too bad because you likely had a passion for the craft, and a dishonest shop somewhat left a bad taste in your mouth. Mechanics typically don't have a good name. People generally often ask...do you know of a "honest" mechanic? That's definitely not just by random that is typically phrased in that way. Good for you for quitting.
Thanks, Scotty. My dad was a mechanic with your integrity. Many times, during hard financial times, he provided low cost or zero costs to his customers to help them to get to work. In return, many of them provided him with bushels of produce or seafood. That kept our freezer full and fed us. You truly provide a service that many appreciate and it saves them money.
Your dad was indeed a good man. I work on motors, particularly diesel engines. Caterpillar’s Mainly. Sometimes being skilled with your hands doesn’t always mean you need money. I’ve bartered a lot of work out for all sorts of things. Food, yard work, house repairs etc..
@@arsenelupiniii8040 Yeah I actually do already, I do everything except full engine rebuilds, I leave that to pros because of how precise you have to measure things and such, I mean I probably could do it but I would rather pay for that part and have it done right.
@@95TurboSol Copy that, interference engines can be tricky getting it rolled over on time, before timing chain placement, check and double check. Still cross fingers when first start however. I am tearing down a 1.8 volks cabriolet right now, thing is german AF! I love the challenge however!
Scotty reminds me so much of my grandfather.. Its pretty rare to see a genuine honest mechanic these days they seriously just rip people off and some don't even know what they are doing .
Scotty, I think this is your best video yet. As a single woman without this kind of help in my life, this kind of info is priceless. I cringe anytime I have to speak to a mechanic because I know so many are despicably dishonest and I have been a victim of it at least 2x (that I know of). Thank you from the bottom of my
Mechanically speaking, if a repair facility doesn't report and is unwilling to show you tangible cause (ie; worn out, leaking, torn/cracked, bent, broken or collaterallly damaged components) then they don't have a case and you should decline their suggested correction till they do or get a second opinion elsewhere.
When my wife and I were dating she drove to Fl to work at Disney for a semester. Before she left, I changed the oil and brakes/rotors on her Honda Civic. While she was down there she had taken it into a shop for something else and they guys said she also needed new brakes/rotors/calipers and wanted to charge her 3,000 dollars for it all. I'm still mad about it 15 years later!
Generations of kids who are now adults will never grow up around men like this. People wonder why the world is the way it is…..Scotty is the man that whole generations of kids never had.
A gen x was sitting on the car keys but she was on her phone and while the rest of us looked for the key’s finally I turned off the connection and she could brake away from the phone seconds later she realized she was sitting on the keys . This problem is from the CIA and ultimately Satan. If all of us stand up against this we might recover maybe.
I had a guy who treated me like a son when I was growing up and into my 30's. His name was H. C. Hinesley (aka Red) and he owned a Chevron Service Station. He taught me all about the cars of the day (60's, 70's, and 80's) He retired in 1982 and lived until 2001. I hope to see him again in the next life.
I’m probably one off the few people on the planet who has an honest mechanic. He’ll actually tell me when I don’t t need to do something or talk me out of something unnecessary that I’m worrying about thinking I need to do.
Yeah I have one of those too. Guy named John, old school mechanic been going for 40 plus years. Way past retirement but carries on as he loves tinkering with cars. Has a business partner Paul, great guy too, who's in his mid thirties and deals with all the engine computer management stuff. Garage has a couple weeks waiting list, unless it's something really urgent, as they're always busy. Like yourself I feel kinda blessed to have them. Worth their weight in Platinum.
I knew a guy like that too...A virtual Unicorn....Personally I can say I NEVER sold anyone ANYTHING that they did'nt need. Over 50 years...EVER !!!!!!! of course I turned away THOUSANDS of jobs because I would not cheat people.....
Yeah I used to think the same thing until I just saw the tread on his wife's tires. He's obviously not too worried about his wife's safety cuz those tires are well past their due date for replacement
Scotty. Your best informative video yet. I explain this stuff everyday to my customers. What hurts is those poor people coming with estimates, or worse, actual work done from franchises or dealerships. I can give a 100 stories, the worst was a 2001 VW Golf 1.8T that went to a local franchise few years ago. Mileage was 160k km. They sold them $3500 work for all new struts, new brakes (which even if calipers were changed they were rebuilt), 4 way sway links, and thats it. All cheapest aftermarket parts. The most important they should have mentioned its an aged 1.8T and you need a timimg belt. Guess how I met them. Belt broke. Now I suspect all the other work besides maybe pads and possibly rotors was not needed. Luckily had a link back then and got a healthy low km engine for $600. Would've fixed the valves on the damaged motor but labor would be more. (Still less than 3500! because its a silly fwd 4 banger) All in all total job with new powersteering pressure line was $1600. And somehow the franchise got 3500 for work that can be done in a few hours, that probably wasnt even necessey, and didnt even warn the customer of what was really important. Worse is they charge list price for 3rd line parts (that means if say a drive axle is 800 at the dealer, and the aftermarket is 180, they will charge you 800, this is what paying LIST means). I agree with any retail to make a percentage on your parts, but how do you justify 180 to 800 and its not even top quality? So you're lucky if the rotors or sway links last a year or two. Many great 1st line aftermarket products available for better than dealer prices and most last longer. Say you buy an original Honda balljoint from Honda. It is not the same quality or even manufacturer of the one that was installed when vehicle was new. Dealerships also use a lot of aftermarket from local suppliers.for work while charging your full List Price for OEM. In the end its the only reason people ditch used cars for new because stealerships and francheesey locations rip people off. I will never understand why people trust the dealership representing the brand you bought to be the best at repairing it. They are parts exchangers where 70% of.the workforce is dumb kids. They will do peel outs with your car when you're hoping for simple oil change. A shop that actually shows you your car and the problems makes sense. A shop that won't let you into.the work area because of insurance issues is bull because any shop can get liability insurance for their customers, and if they sell you that story, they are hiding things. Get smart people and find independent shops. They're everywhere and even if they're shifty, STILL cheaper than the rest.
35yrs as a mechanic and I can say we are not all Like this. Guys like that give us honest mechanics a bad name. We are just making a honest living like everyone else. I used to give stuff away sometimes, when I owned my shop. Maybe that's why I failed.
100% honesty is different than 99%. Rethink about yourself and most of all, be honest to yourself first. Even you gave stuff away, think about when you were not 100% honest just because of comfort or whatever. I trully doubt your words. Never met a honest person complaining about the honesty of the others. Everything you said just suggests you're putting yourself in the bucket of the less dirty ones, still you were dirty at some degree. I don't know about your life, I'm just assuming, so don't get offended, I'm just a stranger on the webs.
I wish Scotty could open up a chain of car mechanic shops where they were held to "Scotty's Standards". I would Def go to ANY SHOP that SCOTTY endorses. Or even a website we could check to find mechanic shops that Scotty trusts & recommends. Man, I miss the generation of REAL MEN like Scotty who are honest & have real integrity. Thank you Sir for being a true gentleman.
That would be fantastic. They'd make money too, especially with some advertisement. I guess it's just too much trouble to set it all up especially since he's retired age.
Thank you Scotty, I just discovered your channel and have been binge watching all your videos. You really opened my eyes to how I was being taken to the cleaners by mechanics (specifically Firestone). Knowledge is power, so thank you for empowering the common man
Definitely Firestone is trash as a company. Sears too when they were still around. They wouldn't pass my inspection unless I replaced my wipers at their shop (something I could do myself). Well those practices helped push them downhill.
@@williamlgolub Not knocking upcoming mechanics, but thats probably who these place hire. New tech school grads Salaries are low, So, basically these new guys learn on customers cars, and move on to better pay when they have some "experience" under their belts
Scotty, Long gone the days of watching mechanics work on your beloved vehicle. Been subscribed to your channel for quite a few years now. Thank you for educating us.
Scotty, thanks for the tips. Yes sir, dealers love to try to sell you brakes. Once upon a time I was foolish enough to own a few BMW's , never again. Those creeps tried to sell us air filters, in cabin and engine with every oil change. Not to mention thing constantly break in them German tanks. Starters, batteries, fuses, electrical issues, oil burning rings, it never ends. BMW is the worst.
As a rule of thumb, if they tell you something expensive needs to be done during a regular maintenance visit, tell them to show it to you. Then tell them you're going to drive it awhile, and research the issue before you make your decision. There are shops that will purposely break parts of your vehicle, and them tell you it needs to be fixed, which of course it does. Use common sense though. If something breaks long begore it should, invesigate the situation.
3 Quick ones - Mazda 2018 cx5 Skyactive, 40K miles. Love it. Regarding transmission fluid - 1. with the Skyactive system, Is it still necessary to change it regularly, and are transmission flushes worth it? Also - I had NEVER considered the importance of torquing the wheels to spec!! Damn! That's probably why rotors warp. Shops use impact drills all the time to bolt down tires. What do they care? Car in - Credit Card out. - Car out. (Just thought of that - Credit C Mitchell) 2. How often should I clean the intake valves with CRC? 3. Best fuel additives for cleaning the direct injectors? If all brands are the same, that's fine, just want to find out. (I still say you could pass for Stephen Stills older brother.) Keep on rocking Scotty - You do go on and on and on and on... but you're a lot of fun to listen to!
My son knew nothing about cars, took his car in for a brake job three times in one year, when I found out, I told him to stop going to that shop, not surprisingly, that shop went out of business a year or so later
@@TheUnknownHarbingers He might be confusing inspecting them, at that low milage, for replacing them. There's no way that a Japanese vehicle would automatically need new struts at only 35.000 miles. However, winter driving on salty roads will threaten the shafts, pitting them to the point where they can no longer seal
Hi Scotty, As always... great video. However, at four minutes in, for clarity, you probably should have shown that the wheel was off the ground. Since the wheel wasn't rotated, it was hard to tell at first. Not all are mechanically incline. Just my 2¢
Well Scotty, I see you have moved up to a nice new garage or home! Nice going! Yes most of us do know of those cheater garages. I always tell them that work will not be done by them but by an another garage or by myself, that is if it's really defective!
Scotty, how about this one ... took to a Dealership, power steering fluid was low, tech said maybe you need a new RACK! Added my own fluid, never a problem since .. never going to that place agian ..
Really cheap pads are not ceramic so the wear out faster and get hot quicker. If you get lifetime warranty, you can replace them often (for free). But my suggestion is get OEM equivalent pads. Noise?? Never had noise and I have had a lot of cars with all kinds of pads.
SCOTTY. That tire is WORN! COME ON! As for the brakes, it's a good idea to measure the thickness of the rotors when it's time to change the pads. If too thin, replace them. I did a total fluid flush in my Nissan at 60K. Changed the filter. Cleaned the pan. 90K now. Still going. Good vid. Thanks.😁
"As for the brakes, it's a good idea to measure the thickness of the rotors when it's time to change the pads. If too thin, replace them." Correct. This is what my mechanic recommended. I did this and when his head mechanic did a test drive they found a lot of 'give' in the right hand steering before the wheel turned and engaged. So they replaced a part and didn't charge me labour for it just the part. Now the car is steering great, the brakes are fantastic and I'm happy.
BTW my mechanic is a racing driver and loves cars especially high performance vintage cars. He runs his whole shop extremely efficiently and I found him by googling Honest mechanic and then my city, and got a chat room and found him. He knows I do my own servicing and respects that. He never tries to upsell me.
@@theperson3693 Wrong. If they're like bologna skin the can't shed water and subject to hydroplaning on the road. Loss of contact with the road in water is like driving on ice, and that's frickin' dangerous! Scotty's tire was worn enough to change. I'm a mechanic too and I would not drive on tires like that.
When you cross the mechanic shops that actually know how to fix vehicles properly, with those that are honest, you get around 10% or less. Its a sad state of affairs.
Those tires on your Matrix were nearly to the cord😮 they would not pass the Lincoln penny test no matter how "evenly worn". Might be time for some new ones. The dust covers are probably superfluous unless you plan on a lot of dirt road or desert driving.
also, if u get alignment. make sure that its correctly done. everytime i get one done, its NVR right. after the 3rd try, they told me my links are no good. 900 to fix. im like eah tire has one, they cost about 15-25 a piece. thats 100 or less, but then 800 for labor? all u need is a socket set and sometime. rip off.
Thank you for telling us the oil in suspension scam. You saved me. When I bought my car after saving for a lot of time, a cheap and old one, but affordable. I went for a tire replacement, they sowed me the oili suspension. I knew it was a scam because of you, so, thanks a lot
60 minutes actually filmed a Shell station mechanic doing this....squirt tube of oil in a shop rag, leaned under the car while the customer was in the rest room....The test car had had all 4 tires and shocks changed before the trip, then driven through mud so the new equipment and parts werent noticable then drove cross country and stopped at stations adjacent to freeway offramps...I think they bought 3 sets of shocks before they reached the East Coast....
How do you actually have time to fix these cars, make all of these videos, and eat/sleep? I often find it difficult to do the laundry AND make dinner. Ugh 😀 You're an inspiration.
I was told my car can't be aligned because the struts and drive shaft have to be replaced. But the shocks actually feel fine. So I'm glad you told me this.
Yeah, I would get a second opinion. I just went through something like that, I was told my car can’t be aligned because I needed all my ball joints replaced. I took it somewhere else. It was just one upper ball joint on the front. That’s a difference between paying $300 and $1200.
@@xFactoryUSA I had it done, the first mechanic said all of them I know what happens when a ball joint goes. I take it to the second mechanic, he brings me around when it’s still on the lift. He shows me, which one needs to be replaced and shows me the others are good. I’m trusting the mechanic, that takes the time to physically show me.
@@Ninnjette- oh that’s not bad then, you know, in the future there won’t me gas engines, but there will be suspension components. It’s good to not be scammed, pass the knowledge along! Always have them show you in person

Scotty is awesome lol I love his videos and hes a smart guy, he thinks of all the best ways to fix things easily ... keep up the good work Scotty and thanks for all the videos, you have saved me alot of time and money ....
Years ago, a car repair shop told me that I needed new Rotors. My car, that I bought brand new, was only three years old at the time. The shop that I took it to was either a Meineke or Midas, I don't remember which one. The men there assumed that I had no automotive knowledge at all, so when they told me that I needed new brake pads, new rotors and a bunch of other maintenance care things that were completely unnecessary, I asked the mechanic to see my rotors. The man's face fell when I asked him that. He looked like he had swallowed his tongue as he walked to my car that was still up on the rack. They were perfectly fine, there was one tiny little scratch on one rotor that wasn't even near where the brake pads would touch it. They should know better than to judge a book by the cover. They learned a valuable lesson that day. As did I, even a well known shop can be full of crooks. Those rotors lasted me another ten Years. I never had to replace them.
~~doubt me! hate me!... you're the inspiration i need!!~~ your enthusiasm has been blown through the scale with the threat... i hate when people tell me not to say things, too...
I think the concept of "lifetime fluids" came about when organizations like Consumer Reports and JD Power made "cost of ownership" a big metric in their ratings. Manufacturers responded by extending maintenance intervals and shortening warranties.
No joke! If it flows, it needs to be changed, it’s just common sense. And notice that many manufacturers have eliminated the drain on transmissions? Why have a drain if it’s lifetime, right?
I like advice and words of Wisdom from Scotty Kilmer on cars. And more. If a person in the US with a German last name such as Trumph or Kilmer says something wise on cars, I pay attention. Thank you, Scotty Kilmer, for sharing with us your knowledge of cars from 55 years as a car mechanic. If the brakes squeak when engaged, occasionally, the brake pads and meahanism may still be in perfect shape.
Thank you Scotty! Very valuable information! ... and whoever puts the little inset picture in the upper right hand corner while you're talking, give them a raise because they spot on and hilarious!!! LOL

Love your videos Scotty, We appreciate you a lot, but I have to say I am worried about the tires on your Toyota, looking like it's lacking a lot of rubber 😮
Your tires are done Scotty … perhaps if you rotated them regularly you wouldn’t have the problem … you recently told people “not” to rotate their tires …
You missed one more thing they do, They "test" your battery and say it has a bad cell and needs to be replaced. Had the front tires replaced and they said my battery was going bad. Asked if it had issues starting. Had no issues with it starting so I declined. That was over a year ago, still fires right up.
Hey Scotty, my wife's 07 CRV, had such an annoying squeeking and crunching sound, I asked you about and BUSHING IN THE REAR, was basically your answer. RIGHT ON, OF COURSE, LOL. Altogether, 10 bushings of 2 different sizes, had to be pressed out, and new ones pressed in again. BINGO, no more noise!! That was it, a full set of bushings in the rear assembly of our Honda CRV. We're so thankful for your help and now it's a pleasure to drive again, especially here in the Philippines, our old roads are all falling apart and rough as can be! Roads are getting rebuilt as I write however, but thanks again my friend!
I was happy with how simple cars were in the 60s 70s but I thought I would learn about jet engines and join the Air Force I had another hobby electronics started when I was 6 . So I knew a little more about that subject than most mechanics. After taking the entrance test they suggested I was waisting my time on jets because they were old technology this was proven to be accurate we have had anti gravity since I was born in 1956. In other words they have kept us in the dark for 70 years cars and aircraft are antiques. We could’ve been flying instead of driving everywhere we go. Great videos are enjoying watching them. Have a great day.
Yes Scotty you are spot on. I had a customer come in my shop. The dealer was trying to sell power steering flush, transmission service, fuel injection flush at 25,000 miles. The vehicle was 2 years old!!!! Scotty you use many times "Mechanics" are dishonest but in my experience its the policies of the owner who runs the Auto Shop not the mechanic but yes there is dishonesty in every profession not just auto repair. I have been let go several time because I'm not a good salesman. I can do repairs very well. I'm a master tech and now I have my own shop for the past 17 years. Go to your nice clean shiny curb appeal shop (Im being sarcastic) Guess who pays for that smooth talking well dressed service writer and designer waiting room. You do in the form of super high labor rates and parts mark up and services you dont need. They have to pay for those things some how.
Before you do anything, I suggest you check the drain plug. My wife has an 08 matrix and I can tell you from personal experience that without a crush washer the drain plug for the oil can leak. Some of these guys and change oil don’t exactly put in a new crush washer or they’ll double washer it and it’ll end up leaking.
Thank you SO much for the advice ! My ex husband used to get his oil changed at Wal**** & they stripped his plug (or some piece that was threaded), luckily he caught it. I don’t have the “auto” knowledge, but in the small town I’m in, there’s 1 place to change oil & they’re fast - but maybe too fast & something like that could be missed or skipped easily. I appreciate the advice !!!
@@douglashruby7525 Thank you for your input. I really appreciate all opinions and advice. It’s getting close to 200k miles, but inside/outside is great, all major parts 👌 & I love it as my “commuter car”. I’d hate to get an estimate for this that’s close to the value of my car ! (Recently 1 place wanted $1900 for all brakes & 2-3 other parts) the other actually lifted my car, took off wheels, looked & said I just needed front pads. $150 vs $1900 😳
@@CalamityJAD3 Great stuff Jane!!! Keep on going back to the reliable places and checking everything. That car will save you so much money! My car a Honda civic 97 is insured for only $4500 but it's worth far more to me to keep it on the road. I've spent money on replacing the timing belt at 200k but well worth it. My trusted mechanic who is a racing driver just keeping busy with his workshop has so much work he doesn't need to rip me off and never has.
Several years ago we had a well-respected mechanic in town who everybody used who knew him. He would only charge real hours worked and he was not a cheat. If you came into his shop and he immediately recognized something that could be easily repaired by the owner he would tell you how to do it and save you that money. He is now deceased BTW. This was back in the day of full-service gas stations. A local TV station came to him and asked if he minded helping expose ripoff shops. Without much thought he said he would, not thinking that many of the ripoff shops were run by people he knew. So he pulled a vacuum hose from the carb (remember this was a long time back) on a vehicle and sent the TV folks on their way. It worked. Lots of shops were exposed trying to sell unsuspecting customers a wide variety of repairs they didn't need. All that was needed was to slip the vacuum hose back on. However he made lots of enemies in the area when they found out he set the car up. He simply wasn't thinking about that at the time. But he didn't lose customers. He gained customers although that wasn't his motive.
BTW, I now have a mechanic, an x-GM tech from a dealer that closed. He charges real hours. He was going to go to another GMC, Buick, and Cadillac dealer but right after he got there they brought in a consultant to show techs how to reel in customers. He knew he wasn't on board with that and could get by doing things his way other than the hours the book called for. But he told me that during one session the guy played the theme from Jaws and that did it for him. He left and opened his own shop. Here's an example and you can look this up on youtube. I had an 09 Acadia. The oil pressure sending unit/switch went bad. I knew I had good pressure so there was no rush. The sending unit is right below the oil filter on the front side of the motor. I'm calling the front side the side closest to the radiator. It's really on the side of the motor I guess. The motor is transverse mounted. You need a deep socket but other than that it's just a tedious job. My guy said he could probably do it in an hour plus the parts which in this case would be the unit and a new oil filter which you'd remove to make the job easier, oh, an oil of course to go ahead and do a change. So for giggles I called a few shops. Every one of them said the alternator had to be removed. NOT. But that's what the manual said and the cost would be $600. How do people sleep at night pulling that stuff on unsuspecting customers?
We used to have an old Honda Accord wagon that had over 300,000 miles on it when I finally sold it , but not before I drove it , my wife drove it and it got past down to each of our two daughters who drove it throughout high school . When I sold that old Accord wagon it didn’t leak or use oil at all. But I changed the oil and oil filter every 4000 miles religiously ! And everything on that old Accord still worked too. It still had all its original parts except for the starter ! But other than changing the oil and oil filter every 4000 miles and front and rear brakes when needed and part of the exhaust from the cat back that ole car was still running like new when I sold it. To this day I’ve never bought any other make or model than a Honda Civic or Accord , and all I’ve ever had to do is change the oil and oil filter and brakes on everyone I’ve ever owned.
Fourteen years ago a bicycle shop said I need brake pads. I said no, and I ride 27 miles every weekend in good weather and still never changed them. "Need" can be an opinion more than a fact sometimes.
It would be nice if I knew you and lived close to you and was able to ask for for some advice if my car needed any possible repairs so I wouldn’t run into Any problems either on my own or at a Mechanic shop or at a Dealership shop so I could save on the costs for any possible repairs that I might need for my car whatever make and model it is . Thanks Scotty for All the Videos you have put out through the years on RUclips. There Needs to be More People just Like You in the World 🌎 !!!! God Bless You 🙏
Scotty, well done,lt takes alot to impress me , but so far your videos are impressive and help people from getting ripped off. As they say the real truth people don't hear

@Scotty Kilmer can you talk about the rear wheel bearing on a 2008 Tundra. I would love to hear your take on a job like that.
I would really appreciate it
WHEN I HAVE TO GO TO A MECHANIC.... I WANT TO WALK IN WITH SCOTTY.
I replaced my struts. It fixed my problem. Boy they were hard for a 115lb chick. I rented strut stretchers.
I could have told you recycling is a scam 40 years ago!
You’re a good man
That's too bad because you likely had a passion for the craft, and a dishonest shop somewhat left a bad taste in your mouth. Mechanics typically don't have a good name. People generally often ask...do you know of a "honest" mechanic? That's definitely not just by random that is typically phrased in that way. Good for you for quitting.

Scotty is a denim god!
(Still less than 3500! because its a silly fwd 4 banger)
All in all total job with new powersteering pressure line was $1600.
Thanks for telling us "what we can do" to keep from getting ripped off at repair shops. Much appreciated, Scotty! 👍🇺🇲

Hey Scotty, from down-under here, we love you mate and your videos. Don't ever change. Love the way you say it as you see it.
Scotty is like a good baseball umpire, he calls the plays like he sees them.
Yep, worked in some of those when I was younger
Ask up front on the invoice that you want the old parts period.
3 Quick ones - Mazda 2018 cx5 Skyactive, 40K miles. Love it. Regarding transmission fluid -
1. with the Skyactive system, Is it still necessary to change it regularly, and are transmission flushes worth it? Also - I had NEVER considered the importance of torquing the wheels to spec!! Damn! That's probably why rotors warp. Shops use impact drills all the time to bolt down tires. What do they care? Car in - Credit Card out. - Car out. (Just thought of that - Credit C Mitchell)
2. How often should I clean the intake valves with CRC?
3. Best fuel additives for cleaning the direct injectors? If all brands are the same, that's fine, just want to find out.

@@TheUnknownHarbingers He might be confusing inspecting them, at that low milage, for replacing them. There's no way that a Japanese vehicle would automatically need new struts at only 35.000 miles. 😄👍
Auto parts stores sell a "brake quiet" goop that you can put on the back of the pads where they contact the caliper & piston, it might help.
Really cheap pads are not ceramic so the wear out faster and get hot quicker. If you get lifetime warranty, you can replace them often (for free). But my suggestion is get OEM equivalent pads. Noise?? Never had noise and I have had a lot of cars with all kinds of pads.
This guy is an awesome character. Plus he seems like a good honest man.
If too thin, replace them."
Correct.

Spray grease bingo!
Scotty is the man. old timer moter heads are in moter heaven smiling at him..
The rip-offs are probably wailing and gnashing their teeth
I was happy with how simple cars were in the 60s 70s but I thought I would learn about jet engines and join the Air Force I had another hobby electronics started when I was 6 . So I knew a little more about that subject than most mechanics. After taking the entrance test they suggested I was waisting my time on jets because they were old technology this was proven to be accurate we have had anti gravity since I was born in 1956. In other words they have kept us in the dark for 70 years cars and aircraft are antiques. We could’ve been flying instead of driving everywhere we go. Great videos are enjoying watching them. Have a great day.
Love ya Scotty, been using your tips for years, good thing you're not in Houston its absolutely cooking right now 🥵
Yes Scotty you are spot on.
I replaced the shocks and now I’m a foot taller. Rides better too. The streets and highways in Arizona are horrible.
Love the video, as usual. Especially love it at the 3:00 minute mark! Thanks, Scotty!
I have an 09 Matrix. I love it. It’s leaking oil & im dreading taking it in… I can’t imagine what they’ll say I need/ the cost to “fix”. 🤦🏻♀️
I would get 3 opinions with estimates too from 3 different repair shops.
Scotty has some BALD tires! 😆
Thank you for the informative video.
God Bless You 🙏
Good info!!! Thank you
Scotty, well done,lt takes alot to impress me , but so far your videos are impressive and help people from getting ripped off. As they say the real truth people don't hear
