Great video of the 505! Back in the 60s as a child we visited the museum when we were on vacation visiting my dad’s brother and family. My uncle George was a machinist mate on the Guadalcanal when they captured the 505. He was one of the guards during their stay on the carrier. He was the only one who would turn the fans on giving the prisoners a break from the constant heat being below decks. After he went off guard duty, they turn the fans back off. German NCO Hans Goebeler was an artist and drew my uncle 2 prints for his kindness towards his crew members, which I still have copies of, since the originals were stolen when he was moving to Baltimore, Maryland. Back in the 90s I was able to contact Hans Goebeler which at that time was living in Florida. He remembered my uncle and gave him the phone number to correspond with my uncle. I still collect World War II German memorabilia. Thank you again for your video.
Superb excellent video wow, takes me back to your shop Essex Road your dad, and your grandad at London Arms many years ago, still have your old catalogues ,
That U-Boat display in Chicago is incredible, so well presented. The Americans really know how to put on a show! And what a collection your friend has, must be worth £££m's !
Years ago, at Groton subbase there was a post war German diesel sub that you could walk through. Closest I coud get to an actual U Boat. I would put the U 505 in the same category as the captured Tiger 1 tank at Bevington England.
Great Video Daniel, always fantastic to see the history you film at the shows & The U 505 was amazing looking forward to seeing the next video absolutely amazing cheers Murray.
great uboat video, never seen it before personally. your friends military collection is super impressive to say the least! very nice helmets in your hotel room and other items. all origianl and in good to excellent condition, great video thanks for sharing
I believe the producers of the movie Das Boot, came to Chicago and used dimension specifications and artifacts to design their sets for the movie. I first saw the U-505 when I was a small child. It was outdoors then.
Aren't we getting a little tired of the story of the silverware taken from the Eagles Nest? I've seen probably 50 of them claiming those huge silverware sets were from there. How much silverware did they have on hand?!

I visited the U505 on 20 May 2019, at which time the wound badge was oriented correctly. I have a photo of it.
Heck yeah the U-505! I hope you guys had a blast here in the US
thanks a lot mate😀
The Italian helmet at 11:41 with ferdern is not Alpini, it is from the Bersaglieri !
My 1 biggest dream is also my Biggest goal in my life. it’s to get an untouched German Fallschirmjäger helmet either single or double decal.
Nice video!!
thank you!
How do you get all your stock over to the U.S. and back again safely. Good video thanks for sharing your trip.
Great video daniel

Dan - Was there much 19th Century (Napoleonic or Victorian Wars) stuff at the SoS ? Looked to be mainly WW2 and German, US & British.

Not if you know what you're looking for. Like everything 3rd Reich theres fakes by the bucket load.
Perhaps the third reich ran a silverware souvenir stall there 😂
Who's British General's cap is it........?!
Good for you to not give in to the vaccination.
good vid but the background music is really annoying....
I turned off the sound almost the whole video...
Sorry, but the Close Combat Clasp in Bronze, well known fake from F&BL type..
A so called 'butterknife' type indeed
Leave the music
The F & B L Bronze close combat clasp you are showing is a well known fake
