@@JustinBainbridgeYT It's not too bad if you get on a simulator. I took my first manual flight on Friday, with no idea what I was doing. Crashed after 1 second but luckily from only about 1m high and onto grass. I then realised I had no idea what I was doing and spent 12 hours over the weekend using 'FPV Skydive' simulator and I went out again today with the Avata 2 and felt in good control flying around a football field for 15 mins. Looking forward to improving further. It feels like one of those addictive hobbies where you'll never master it but you've just got to keep improving.
@mhhenson1 That's a perfect example of why simulators are so valuable. Get the bad crashes out of the way in the sim and then once you've got the basics and muscle memory locked in. Flying for real is much easier! Yep, there's always something new to learn and things to improve! Keep up the good work!

Perfect timing because I ordered the Freewell 4 pack plus and extra ND4 filter last night.
Received the fpv radio controller 3 today, and should receive the filters tomorrow just in time for my first ever flight.

If any of you are here because you intend on using your footage for CGI, and specifically, tracking - you should go to manual camera mode and get some lenses for your drone. The auto mode is impossible to track because of the almost undetectable changes in color and light that it performs. Learned from experience. wish you the best

Motion blur doesn’t come from the 180 degree rule, but rather from the relation between your shutter speed and the speed of movement in your shot.
Actually the 180 degree rule isn’t a rule at all, but was rather a mechanical necessity back then when your film camera had to mechanically move the film between two exposures.
The higher your frame rate - let’s say 50fps and above - the less relevant your actual shutter speed becomes.

Thanks for your opinion and info on how to use nd filters , I’m in Western Australia and it’s always so frigging bright , I’m in an rc flying club and it’s my ambition to film our models flying, just using motion controller at the moment and had some good success but the rc controller will give me the speed in need but your videos have been very helpful

@@todthyne1656 Brilliant, I have been flying RC fixed wing since I was 10, I loved building my own aircraft and do miss not having ant planes. But I cant carry one around with this lifestyle haha. I'd love to do some plane chasing too. I spent the last 2 years in Aus but didn't get to the west coast. hopefully I will return in a couple of years and go explore the west!

Probably can't go wrong with any of the big brands. Just wondering if it is worth a consideration/fair to say that it's less likely to get finger prints on the filter with K&F filters given it has the protruding handles just like the original DJI design compared to the little latch on FREEWELL ones? Even the other popular STARTRC model has a big ring around the filter.
All of them appear to have very similar materials and built quality/price.
@3:33 Worth mentioning UV filters also protect the lens in case of a crash (when no ND filters are used). ❤🔥
Yess! I did think about this whilst I was editing and looking right at my 5 inch with the UV on the O3 as protection 😅 I always have a UV on if I'm using no ND for that exact reason. Although I don't tend to have many crashes these days it's still nice to know there's an extra layer there 🤙
Yeah cool, I'd say this is actually a must for such expensive drone if it means it saves one from sending in a drone if just lens is broken/scratched... Worth considering putting a subtitle remark into your video for this.

P.s. @5:52 shocked to see that one can almost intuitively continue navigate to the right in camera settings menu, lol I didn't knew this and now I'll won't go vis the main menu again and again. (They really should have a right/left card wheel indicator).
I wasn’t going to get ND filters for my AVATA 2, because I thought that I’m actually wanting the best possible video. But then I saw another video where a person had an accident with his avatar 2 and had a slight chip on the lens. So I ended up getting the freewell 6 pack of ND filters. I’ll probably just use either the polarised lens or that other one that is fairly light in colour, not so much for the motion blur, but as added protection for the lens.
Yep another good point! Something that I forgot to mention is I generally always fly with the UV filter on for protection if I'm not using an ND. That extra layer of glass can save the lens. It's saved my O3 lens before on my 5 inch. Much easier to replace a $10 filter than a full camera. 😃
Hi Justin - thx. for you BIG effort in your channel 🤘I use the FREEWEL ND FILTER, but it seems maybe someting is wrong - i have a LENS FLAIR (speciel when sun is coming from the back). Have you spot the same issue ? I thing the might com sun in from the back of the top of the filter ?
Hey! You're very welcome! Lens flares will always happen with cameras. They are normally when the sun is in front rather than behind, though, so it does sound strange. The ND filter forms a pretty tight seal with the camera housing, so I doubt that light can come in from behind in any direction. Maybe it's something else that you're noticing? There is also the possibility of a lens flare when the sun is high in the day which appears as more of a bright spot on the screen but again there's not much we can do on drones like this to mitigate is as generally you'd use a lens hood on a camera but we can't do this with FPV. Hope this helps 😃
Thank you for making such an informative and professional video. DJI recommends using the Lightcut app. However, I prefer to upload footage to my PC. Could you suggest a beginner friendly alternative that's Windows 11 compatible?
Also, I'm wondering if a transitional filter is available. I'm capturing footage of friends riding ATVs in bright, open areas and dark, forested trails. I'd like to be able to take continuous footage without breaks to change the filter. Thanks again
You're very welcome! It's not so much the operating system of the computer, it's more down to the performance of the Processor and Graphics card. You should be able to run these softwares on most machines, these are also free applications. Adobe Rush, Capcut.
There aren't and transitional filters. For this situation what you need to do is input the camera settings as shown and then change the ISO to Auto and set the limit at somewhere high enough to cover the darker areas, normally 800 will be enough. This will let the drone change the image brightness using the ISO depending on the environment whilst also maintaining the other settings to keep mtion blur in the footage. Hope this helps 😃
Playing around with the exposure value, eh (I saw +2 with the ND filter, which makes sense if it was still a little dark, and -2 w/o the filter - to drive up the shutter speed?)? I always do that in a forest as 0 always seems a little dark on my cameras. The Freewell ND filter pack (4 filters) arrived today for my Avata 2. Your video is what assisted me in deciding to order them.
Hi there, when in manual shooting mode, the ev is just shown as the current level with those settings. It's not something you set like in auto. I shows +2 before I put the filter on. When I pop the ND on, it drops to closer to 0, I think it was -0.7 in this case. Without the ND it was -2 the image was looking too bright at a value closer to 0 and I wanted to get a high enough shutter to show the difference. I'm also in the shade there so it would jump up around 1 point when I get back in the sun hope this helps 😁

Thank you! Yep absolutely, I generally fly with a UV filter on even if I'm not using an ND for the extra camera protection. Especially on my freestyle drone

Just ordered them from Amazon in the US from your link. Currently DJI ND filters as well as FPV 3 still unavailable here in Bangkok. Personally I like to see the crispy stuff in the foreground sometimes. IMHO, motion blur is overrated, regardless of what everyone thinks the human eye wants to see.
Awesome! It's not an affiliate link, but thank you for the support! That's a shame. Hopefully, you get stock soon! I left Thailand the week after it was released and luckily they had Fpv 3 radios in Bali. Sometimes a crisp image is preferable, but I do love a bit of motion blur 😅
What are your thoughts regarding the use of Gyroflow with stabilization turned off, versus Rocky Steady? Maybe you prefer not to use Gyroflow to take advantage of the Ultra Wide setting since Gyroflow only works with the Wide setting?
With the previous gen of rock steady, I didn't feel like it was quite there, so I would always shoot in wide with no stabilisation and then use Gyroflow. I still use Gyroflow with my gopro footage on other FPV drones. However, this iteration of rocksteady is much improved over the last, I tend to fly pretty smooth anyway so I get by okay, and yes, I also want to take advantage of the ultrawide FOV. It also saves me a LOT of post-processing time having useable footage straight from the SD. Rather than having to stabilise each clip before I can use it.

Just bought a few Freewell ND filters after this and they are great, but how the hell do you remove them lol!! Any chance of doing a quick video of putting on and taking off please?

Haha, they are a little tight the first few times you pop them on, but just hold the gimbal with 2 fingers, then pull them off using the top tab. After 4/5 fits, they come off much easier 😁

@@JustinBainbridgeYT OK found trying to get top tab off wasn’t working, so held the camera lens firmly and kinda flicked the bottom corner with my thumbnail and that works 😂
Like you said, they will get easier after a few fits and because the Avata 2 is new, I was worried of breaking the camera.
Actually I like it better without the motion blur (and foreground in focus) in your example flying forwards. I mainly am concerned about jitter when panning or flying sideways and I think that is where I need to use ND filters, but you didn't cover that. (Although I guess FPV doesn't much fly sideways like my camera drones. But it does panning.). I got the A2 for indoors mostly, and manual mode would not be as good as automatic for the changing lighting. Interesting that you suggest the polarizing filter (which I got) for glaring surfaces. I got the ND pack, but I could probably live without it.
That's fair enough, some people like it, some people don't. Yeah jitter another byproduct of lower frame rates and high shutter speeds, but it's not something we tend to come across too much in FPV as we tend to record in a higher frame rate or use a dedicated action camera with ND's on it. Yeah a polarising filter works wonders indoors.

Hey! The ND filters will give you the motion blur in the goggles too. Some people don't like that, but personally, I don't mind. It's still really nice to fly with. They don't have any effect on how the image looks other than motion blur and exposure 😃
@6:16 is it fair to say that the Filter Frame being so close to the glass and "pushing on the top" is more likely to get finger prints on the glass compared to the filters from STARTRC which has a big ring around the filter or even K&F Concept which has the protruding handles top/bottom just like the original design? (Based on price and info they all seem very similar in materials/built quality)
I got fingerprints on the first couple times I fitted them then I just got used to it and my technique improved and no more fingerprints. it,s just another design to be honest. The handles are probably the best for avoiding finger prints, but at the end of the day I normally give the filter/lens a quick wipe before I start flying anyway so its not something that I'm concerned about. Interesting point though! 😃
@@JustinBainbridgeYT thanks, yeah i figured easy enough to wipe afterwards but the more reason to get the K&F Concept one to avoid that and hopefully have a little less hassle. I just need also a UV filter asap instead of risking damaging the original lens (like a screen protector that most people put on their expensive new mobile). =D
So I'm new to all of this.. drones and photography so my question is why would u want the motion blur? It almost seems like it looks better when the image is sharper?
It's mainly because motion blur looks more natural to the human eye. Some people don't like it in their footage which is fine, but personally, I much prefer footage with some motion blur in it. 😃
Will these Freewell filters fit under the gimbal cover of the Avata2 Cam?
They will but it is a bit of a push to get it on, I just take them off personally. The whole gimbal assembly is mounted on rubber mounts so you're just pushing the rubbers back but I would just take them off. 😃

Can you make a short video info about concerning TSA security carry on with lots of batteries? But on websites I read info from TSA about batteries for drone how many can you carry the batteries?
Hi Johnny! This is something I could cover in the future. However it tends to depend on the airline you're flying with. To give you some context I regularly travel with 3/4 drones, and around 16 drone batteries. You always have to put batteries in carry on and I keep my more fragile drones with me in the carry on too. But I've never had an issue with the batteries. I always separate them from my bag when they're going through the scanner and sometimes they take a look at them, sometimes not. But it's never a problem. But yep I'll add it to my list of videos to make 😃

@johnnyfontechanic7556 Yeah 😅 I have to be prepared haha I've never had an issue with battery quantity. They're mainly concerned about the individual batteries not being over 100wh each. If you're travelling with a DJI drone in its bag, you'll have no problems they see them every day now, so it's not an issue

@fyzobaba Hey! These filters are only for the Avata 2. However, Freewell does make filters for the DJI FPV also. It looks like they are available as single pieces on Amazon or some other stores sell a pack of 4 filters 😃

Nope, no colour cast on these filters
Damn, these Freewell filters are a nightmare to get off the camera. It seems the only way to break them in is to eventually wear out either the nubs that hold them onto the camera or the edges of the camera lens itself which is not ideal. They're also difficult to keep clean with the glass recessed under the plastic edges. If I'd known this I definitely would've gone with the DJI filters.
Hey! They can be a little tight to begin with but after 4/5 fits they settle in and are fine. It sounds like some people are struggling a little more than others. I've been using them for a month now and they've been fine. Still secure and easy to remove and fit. Looking back at the filters it appears that the DJI ones are easier to fit/remove but they fall off much easier in a crash and they can sometimes give a blue colour tint. Whereas the Freewill fit much more securely with no colour tint. Hopefully, for you they'll be easier to remove after a few uses. As for cleaning, I haven't had any issues, most filters are recessed into a frame. In other news, I still have trouble removing ND filters from the original Avata camera/O3 air unit. Those are a real pain in the ass! 😂
@@JustinBainbridgeYT Yeah I reckon the DJI filters are out of stock for the next couple months because they're redesigning them, everyone was moaning about the blue tint. I'll keep trying with the Freewell ones, I'm just paranoid about damaging the gimbal 😮💨
@@SirCatflap Yeah it's annoying when filters give you a colour shift. You should be okay with them, like I say they become much easier to remove after a few uses and your gimbal should be fine. The single axis FPV gimbals are much tougher than the 3 axis gimbals we see on the likes of the mavic series. Just fit and remove them a few times and you'll get the hang of it 😃
Which sd card do you use i use a sandisk 128 gb extreme pro and i get "writing speed to slow message" i also formatted the card too
I'm using the exact same card, Sandisk Extreme Pro 128gb. Is it definitely a genuine card? There are a lot of fakes out there. I always make sure to buy SD cards from a reputable dealer, so I know they're genuine

I have a hard time to remove the filters from Freewell. I see others have the same problem. Any tips?
Just try to hold the camera as best you can whilst pulling the tab at the top. It appears some are having a tight fit at first. But they'll loosen up after a couple of installs. Mine were a little tight but nothing to cause any concern. They loosened up after 4/5 uses

Nope, no vignetting when shooting 4:3. I shoot some clips in 4:3 to use for both RUclips and Instagram 😃

Haha, some people do. Personally, I do love having motion blur 😅 Not sure about flying in 30fps, though 😅 it always feels weird through the goggles. 60 is so much nicer to fly
But what if I fly from outdoor to indoor? Real estate photography. Should I use nd filters then too?
Real estate shooting is a different beast. If you're going from indoor to outdoor, that normally comes with a pretty large change in lighting. You could try and balance the settings and have some manual but auto ISO to allow the camera to adjust brightness that way. Or just film without an ND filter or use a PL like I mentioned in the video 😃
That’s what I do but want cinematic look outdoors while having good low light sensitivity indoors without grain.
@JinForTheWin79 I would do some tests indoors and see how far you can push the ISO without getting too much grain. You're generally pretty safe up to ISO 400 in decent lighting, but try it out and see. You might be able to push it to 800. You can always do some noise reduction in post if required, I would just spend an afternoon truing different camera setting combos and ND's and see what works out the best.
Would an auto iso limit of 200 and the use of an ND4 filter give you a balance to work with before edit?
I am a noob to all of this but trying to make sense of these types of scenarios.
@azad-11 You would want to set your camera up outdoors for the right settings, so probably still and ND 16 or ND 8, depending on the day, and then let the camera have auto ISO control. Set an auto iso limit of 400 and test to see it that will give you a good result inside the building too. But you would still want to lock the shutter speed and white balance. Just let the camera balance it with ISO. My Iso was locked, so the auto iso limit is irrelevant in this video, but it still shows in the menu.
How to remove the ND filters easily? It is very difficult to detach them!
Just have a good hold on the camera and pull from the top tab, and it should come off. Some people are finding them a bit tight for the first few uses, but they get easier to remove after 4/5 uses.
So are you purposely over exposing by 2 stops i saw it said ev 2 in your settings. I know when shooting log3 it’s like 1.7 over on Sony
Hey, no, I'm not shooting 2 stops over. It shows EV 2 because that's what it's reading my exposure at with those settings, when I stuck the ND on it then shows closer to 0. I know what you mean but we still aim for EV 0 on this camera, maybe a touch over to get better shadow detail 😃

Hey! This is the first thing I have ever accepted on the channel as a gifted product. I bought all the freewell filters mentioned apart from these ones, which I would've bought had they not decided to be so kind as to send them to me. Also, my wording was different to this, I said I wouldn't have kept buying them, relating to my past filter purchases. I would never accept anything I would not buy myself or honestly recommend. I have turned down a lot of free products in the past because of this very reason. For me, it was a pretty epic moment to reach out and get something like this, but hey, you can't please everyone. 😃
@@JustinBainbridgeYT fair enough, as a new viewer that wasn't immediately clear. And it's not about pleasing everyone; its about transparency and accuracy. You gave no reason as to why those particular filters are great as opposed to any other brand etc, save only to mention you got them for free.
He did state that he has always used freewell filters on his other drones , who knows maybe he really likes them that’s why he used them here 🤷♂️
@playsbyshady That's all good, I tried to make it clear, but it's my first time disclosing something like this, so I'll work on ways to make it more clear in the future, some people wouldnt even tell you they got them for free. Thanks for the feedback 😃 Yeah I personally have just had really good experience with them, and I know a lot of others have too. I remember buying my first set of ND filters some years ago and picking up some cheap ones, and they were just nowhere near the quality needed. Hence why I went for some higher quality Freewell ones and have used them since. Yeah, I didn't really feel like I needed to compare them to other brands because it's up to you what you buy at the end of the day. I'm just letting you know what I use and the reasons why. I have no financial incentives here 😃
Is this video sponsored? You don't say one way or the other and it would be good to know if what you say is your own genuine unbiased opinion. There are too many biased/paid for promotions and thus need to be treated with suspicion. Hey, I have not done any sponsored videos as of yet, I did put a disclaimer up when I started to talk about the filters that said "I was sent these for free, I have not been paid for this video". But yep, I love freewell filters. Like I said in the video, I paid for all the filters for my mini 4 pro, my phone, and my O3 air units. I reached out to them because I genuinely liked their products. I'm pretty sure that if a video is sponsored. By law, I have to say it is. So if I don't say it is sponsored, it isn't. I dont think channels as small as mine get sponsorships anyway 😅 Check my video for the mini 4 pro ND filters, I say very similar things because they're great products. I will always be transparent and honest in my opinions of what I'm talking about. The links aren't affiliate links either, so I don't get anything from it. It's just to make it easier for my audience to get them if they want them 😃

Great video, Justin. I was on it right before you pulled it to make some tweaks. LOL. I have a question, since I know you know what you're talking about. I got the DJI 8/16/32 ND filter set. I've yet to fly my drone outside of my apartment because of work mostly, which is letting me get more sim time in because I want to go full manual when I take it outside.
What I'm curious about, though, is a lot of these videos with people using the Avata 2 I see in the bottom part of the screen some weird distortions that I don't see in your videos. It looks really bad. Is that because they're not using ND filters and manually adjusting their shutter speed an ISO? It doesn't look good, and I don't want that when I start flying this video in the outdoors.

Thank you! Yeah, there were some issues in the upload so I had to make re-do it haha. It' back now and better than ever! Okay nice, sim time will make the transition to manual 100x easier.
Hmmm I'm not sure what you're talking about to be honest? Can you link a video with where you've see this so I can take a look and see what's going on? Potentially they're shooting in auto settings but I would be surprised if that was the case.

@@JustinBainbridgeYT Thanks, Justin. And sure thing. I'll look for one and post it. I don't see it on every video, but a few I've seen have some really bad pixelation on the bottom of the screen I've never seen in your videos. Looks bad. Don't want it in mine.
@@JustinBainbridgeYT Found one. Took me a bit. I don't see it often. If you go to 3:36 on this video, you'll see the pixelation I'm talking about popping up a lot at the bottom of the screen and moving up. It's weird.

I was thinking that was an ISO or shutter issue. Why I got the ND filters. Never seen this on your videos, though, but most of the guys just starting out like me. Honestly, looks bad, and moves up the screen at times.
Edit: Watching it now on my computer, I don't see it. But on my 65 inch 4k TV, it's really noticeable. And, again, only some videos. It's mostly when flying really fast at near ground level. Maybe it's because my monitor sucks. But really noticeable on a high-end 4k screen.
@mjw420 Just had a look, and I see what you mean. I'm pretty sure this is a result of the image being too sharp. On the Avata 2, I have my camera sharpness set to -2 and the same with my noise reduction. I prefer to have the cleanest raw image to work with and then i can add more sharpness or noise reduction in post if I need to (which is not often). I think this is what you're seeing. Oversharpening plus high shutter speeds can make it even sharper, which will quickly start to degrade the video. It could also be due to improper export settings in the video editor but I think it's most likely due to oversharpening. I have a video planned on how to make the Avata 2 more cinematic, where I will be covering things like this. That video is probably still a couple of weeks out at the minute though. I still have some really cool locations to go fly at first before I have enough footage for that.
