    You really can't appreciate the styling of the highlander in the first 2 generations until you put it in context to the rest of Toyotas SUV lineup and see it gets its looks by being a shrunken down Landcruiser, and this generation pulls that off best.

    My wife and I have a 2005 highlander limited that we bought almost 3 years ago with 110k miles. It has been such a great reliable vehicle now with 135k. Toyota is deff the best car maker around

    5:07 They look like knobs because they were in other trim levels! My dad’s 2011 has a standard radio with no touchscreen and those are the volume and tuner knobs. The real knobs look much nicer and flow with the car a lot better. The touchscreen in this one looks like an afterthought, likely because it was! That little upper screen is also where the backup camera shows up on vehicles with the standard radio.

    • @brycegamer6520
      @brycegamer6520 Год назад +1

      Yeah that touchscreen was a 2013 exclusive on all trims. just the SE and Limited got XM radio and Toyota Entune. It was the last generation model year and was totally an afterthought. the screen was taken from the corolla and totally just thrown into the car like an aftermarket radio with a Toyota logo.

    I swear sometimes at a glance I think this generation is a Land Cruiser. It took tons of elements from it.

    • @bwofficial1776
      @bwofficial1776 Год назад +7

      That's one reason why the Land Cruiser is so great: it looks like a Highlander. It's very subtle when you consider what its price rivals are.

    I just purchased a used 2013 v6 yesterday, white exterior with cream leather, fully loaded ltd edition, chrome accents, with only 39000 miles, one owner, no accidents and is pristine to the point where only the driver seat was sat in, so absolutely no wear. I got a unicorn. Right place right time. My old beater was a beast in its own right, ( a crown Victoria with 230000 miles). It served me well, and died this past weekend after many years of use, but now its time for a new chapter, and we are looking forward to owning this

    The only thing I hate about this car would be the fact it didn't come with a 360 view camera or a parking sensor, cause sometimes it’s hard to park.

  • @bwofficial1776
    @bwofficial1776 Год назад +3

    That's a cute little screen up top. There's no reason for it to exist but it does. I guess this was before Toyota realized it would make more sense to put it in the gauge cluster. Toyota's infortainment screen improved rapidly from 2010. There's a chance this is a newer head unit the interface looks so much nicer and cohesive than the one I took out of a 2010 Prius. I'm glad someone else remembers the pop-out dials on radios that were common until the mid 00s. I've never seen a center seat that slides into the console.
    I like how these look like mini Land Cruisers, or Land Cruisers look like big Highlanders. They're subtle almost to a fault. They just work and keep working.

    The 2.7 in the Highlander (and first generation Venza) is different from the one in the Tacoma. They have different engine codes. 1AR-FE Vs 2TR-FE. The Tacoma's engine was also used in the Hilux and Land Cruiser Prado, as well as the Hiace.

    I have the 2013 Toyota Highlander limited the screen is exactly same size as the one you are reviewing and the navigation sucks and blue tooth doesn't even work somehow (don't what happened). I bought it used 55k close to 56k miles four years or five years ago. Other than that I love the car. However, my Dad's 2011 limited his screen is bigger than my 2013 limited, and his Bluetooth still working.

    I don't know why Toyota doesn't offer that wiper de-icer on the Corolla and Camry here. They offer it in Canada but not in the United States. Same for the heated steering wheel. They don't need to limit certain features like this just to the bigger cars and suvs, offer it on smaller cars

      I just complained about this on his Corolla video but with rear AC. No trim allows you to have rear vents in the sedan and hatch. Yet it's on the Corollas I see reviewed in Europe. Idk why they cheap out so hard for us. At least on small cars.

      they charge more for most Toyota models here in Canada, even after the CAD to USD conversion. A large part of the U.S. has year round warm climates which makes them believe that these features wouldn't justify the price increase
