Trolling lures at Waranga Basin with Robbiefishing

- The conditions were ideal for kayak fishing on the day that Robbie and I met up over at Waranga Basin. We launched from the Harriman's Point boat ramp and set off trolling up and down alongside the shoreline in search of some tasty redfin. Robbie hooked up in the first few minutes, and other fish soon followed on a quiet but very enjoyable day in our Safari H2O "Murray" kayaks.

hahaha it's hard to avoid with my hairline, even if I don't shave my head lol. I'm thinking about commissioning the wife to sew some elastic fabric in between the straps lol
@@RKJFishing aha ha, maybe ask her nicely to cut out the team Daiwa sign in the in the bit of material she stitches in and once the logo is sunburnt branded onto your noggin take a picture send it team Daiwa and ask for sponsorship. lol or the JK fishing emblem to get a bit of publicity, (human Billboard) lol..

Gets expensive buying pricey lures I also buy my lures at big W some I paint to change up the patterns
haha Thanks Gordon! That Big W lure cost me $4 about 5 years ago, and I reckon I've caught about 150 redfin on it LOL! I'd say that's paid for itself and then some. It will be a very sad day when I lose it to a snag

I watched Starlo's video with Robbie at Lake buffalo and I have to agree with his thoughts on releasing redfin.
I lived in Albury when I was young. The older blokes would say to never put a reddie back because they over populate and become stunted. This was about 48, 49 years ago. I didn't know about the disease part of it then.
I'm not criticising anyone who chooses to let the small ones go. That's your decision. I would just like to know your thoughts on this.
By the way, those little ones have beautiful, sweet little fillets.

Hi Craig! Thanks for your detailed comment mate. In a place like Lake Buffalo or other fisheries with an good population of native fish, I can respect that view point and often follow it to help preserve the other fish. In my area it's mostly silver perch in lakes that are affected, and in those places I try to remove the redfin regardless of size.
Waranga Basin is a beloved redfin fishery, and it's my belief that most of the fishermen there want it to stay that way - we have excellent cod and yellowbelly fisheries nearby already. I agree about the stunting, but I don't like killing things I'm not going to use (carp are an obvious exception). The good news is the basin is producing some good sized fish this year compared to previous years, so hopefully the smaller ones start getting gobbled up as a part of the chain.

hahaha! When we launched the yaks it was really overcast but the sun came belting down in the second half and my sunscreen was in the car LOL! Those tanlines are with me for life while wearing GoPro's I reckon haha

Shame that the guest of honour for dinner declined your invitation and decided to ‘flick off’. Still good entertainment for us. I went out yesterday with a friend and we caught a lot of small reddies. My back is still sort because lake Hume was choppy right up until we called it a day. I got to show my lads how to skin and cook a small Redfin so all was not lost; enough fish for dinner, an educational lesson for the lads, a great time out with Tom (thanks mate) and one hell of a workout for my back!!! (3 prolapsed disks and choppy water for 4hours in a small boat makes for one slow fat man the next day!!!!) did Robbie actually remember the LED bells??

Pent many an hour chasing truck sized carp in the Cattanach channel when they drop the water, ok catching them, another story getting them out up those banks
