Another EPIC Morning Session Fishing On The Campaspe River

- After an epic morning session late last week, I set my alarm nice and early with the hope of having the same level of success. Armed with Jan Juc fishing worms, I headed to a spot I call "the tench hole". I caught my first fish within 5 minutes of setting up! But it then took another 90 minutes to catch a 2nd fish. The good news is that after I landed that second fish, I was met with bite after bite and the session turned red hot.
I ended up with a couple of yellowbelly, a couple of redfin, and 4 carp - not a bad mixed bag! (I lost 3 or 4 fish as well, 1 of which relentlessly pulled drag until snapping me off..... BIG!)
I was going to keep a 48cm golden perch for a feed, but the slippery bugger flipped down the bank and back into the river!

Lovin the regular vids again Rohan. I accidentally let a nice yella go about 2 weeks ago, haven't kept a yella for about 2yrs, caught a nice 40cm one and as soon as I got the hook out, flip flop, back into the river 😂. Anyway, lovin the vids.
Thanks so much Tony! hahaha so pretty much the same thing that happened to me! I rarely keep a yella and when I do they get away LOL. I'll happily keep up the regular vids if the fish keep cooperating haha

The only man I know who can complain about terrible luck and continue laughing and having a good time. By the way, what’s weird is that perch, (Redfin) here in the states aren’t found very often in rivers. They prefer deeper lakes. I’ve seldom caught them in a river!
haha thanks mate. It's all about the fun for me, I'm glad that comes across in my videos. That is interesting! They definitely like deep lakes here as well but I guess the conditions in Australia let them thrive in rivers as well.

That second one was a cod😊, had to laugh when that yella saw the knife coming, jumped out of the net and swam along the grass, then back into the drink.
I have a sneaking suspicion you're right Craig, it wanted to go straight downwards and it just WENT! I might have missed out on dinner with that yella but at least I got some good footage aye LOL! Cheers mate

That was a productive little session. You can't complain about that. Awesome scenery, a couple of reddies, a nice couple of yellow belly, and a few less mud marlin.

17:23 happens to the best of us. There must be a lot of Reddies in the campaspie, I’ve never fished it but I’ve fished Eppalock once (nice lake). The golbourn and broken river where I’m based have 0 Reddies in the rivers . I think it’s because there’s soo many cod and yellas in there.
Anyway tight lines for cod opening
There is a good quantity of redfin but nowhere near as high as it used to be. When I was growing up the only things in that river were redfin and carp, it was very rare to catch anything else. They have thinned out for the same reason you mentioned, the cod and yellas are starting to take over. Hopefully they can start to reduce the carp as well (I can hope lol) Thanks heaps mate

Always just "another damn carp" that got away around my fishing holes. Even if there are no carp within miles.
@@AndrewFishman there just everywhere in the millions. Even the spot I use to fishing when I was a kid not one carp went there 3 years ago caught carp after carp

haha there's so much fishing I need to do over in that area. I was meant to be over there right now but my plans fell through unfortunately! Hopefully I can get over there soon, although I'll probably be lure fishing for cod and trout before hitting up lake hume and below it. Hopefully someday soon mate

What stretch is this? All the Campaspe spots I've been to are rife with snags and too narrow
Try Aysons Reserve near Elmore mate it's really wide and deep there! The whole river has snags though, even the wide bits lol
