Super Slow Speed on an Egyptian Train

Due to the poor condition of the Egyptian railway tracks, which are in need of a a proper overhaul, the average speed of trains in the country is slow.
At seemingly random moments, my Luxor-Cairo 'express' train would suddenly stop in the middle of nowhere, or slow down to a crawling pace.
