Just getting started in ham radio and ran across your channel. I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge and tips....and most of all for breaking things down for us beginners. The family and I are practicing for our tech and general exam. Great videos....thanks!!!!
if its against the law to buy in the usa then how did i just order one on amazon? like amazon did not just get my money on a scan did they ?? lol that would suck..
I'd like to know exact frequencies to put in to hear stuff. It ask for a top & bottom number..??? It does the same for the channels too. So would I need to put specific frequencies or channels on both top & bottom?
I am a falconer In falconry we use transmitters on our birds to locate them if they get lost I was wondering if this radio can pickup 216 or 218 signals If so can it be use with a Yagi antenna to get more directional sounds to locate the bird , and if so what distance can this be or is that from the transmitter Thank you
Wow the same guy broadcasts NOA weather radio down there as here in MN I thought he would have had a southern accent at least. I always thought he had a Scandinavian accent.
Couple things in attempt to understand in all this with that radio. What about restaurants and drive orders. Like Mc D's etc can most that stuff be picked up on radio freq wise? I keep seeing only that restaurants went digital. Then I see Analog and just look at the head set because a color sticker is on it. All places have that and run the color for feq. I do not know truth to all that. Now to the all famous Wal-mart subject. So the Baofeng can pick all that up. What I am confused about is say Loss Prevention they use the same ch as say the cart return guy? Do they go off grid to a freq that will not be hearing? Or just get the freq for Wal-mart and I will hear it all on a black Friday night incl Loss Prev just hit scan? Last- I see alot of stuff about these radios are banned and alot they are not. As of Dec 8, 2019 I can go to many sites and see for sale from businesses in USA. With no fine note or strings attached. Ebay, Amazon and so on. I scratch my head about the ban thing in re to any Joe can order.
I'm only interested in listening and not interested in transmitting. You state that there are much better radios for receiving. Can you list a few that are better? In one of your other videos, you also say to disable transmit ability on the UV-5R Is it simple to disable in the menu? Thanks! Great videos!
I don't believe so. Some business may have switched to digital radio, which the UV-5R will not demodulate. You can hit up www.radioreference.com/ to maybe get a better answer.
Great video. I'm thinking about getting into Ham radio. I think I'll buy this radio and try it out. Can't go wrong for $25. Plus I'll pick up a good antenna.
I’m confused, at about 1:30 I think you said it’s illegal to sell or offer for sale this radio in the US... is that true? Great video! Keep up the good work!
§95.587 FRS additional requirements. (e) Effective September 30, 2019, no person shall manufacture or import hand-held portable radio equipment capable of operating under this subpart (FRS) and other licensed or licensed-by-rule services in this chapter (part 15 unlicensed equipment authorizations are permitted if consistent with part 15 rules). Not an expert, but since the UV-5R is capable of operating in FRS and GMRS frequencies, the FCC has banned its sale.
Chris Mehling they have become illegal, with that said, and I don’t care what anybody says, at some point most ham operator and Cb operator “seasoned” don’t always run legally.
Some cool frequencies to listen to! I’ll add them to my Baofeng. Even with a ham ticket, we should refrain from transmitting in ham bands since the older Baofengs emit some significant harmonics. Thanks for the post! 73 de K2CJB
I think this is the difference between innocent until proven guilty and guilt by association. XD If I purchase a radio with an FCC ID I assume it complies with FCC regulations regardless of manufacture.
Something you missed: BABY MONITORS lol
They run on frequencies 40-49 mhz, baofeng can’t do that

This is my radio, there are many like it, but this one is mine...
Good information. I liked the outtakes, as well. Thanks.
Yes!!!!! A little comic relief is great!!!
Need to test this with my frequency counter. Teach us proper radio etiquette. And the amatuer frequency.
If you break the law and you are not certified, how can they catch you, can they find your location based on your transmission
time stamp 1:28 If the FCC has made it illegal, how do you have one and why are they still on Amazon. Seriously bad info there.

I just bought 10!!!

To listen to frequencies like Railroad and Marine, do you need to set offset tone and CTCS, or just type in the Freqs and hit scan ???

But if you already own one then it’s grandfathered in and it’s legal I believe

I just bought a baofeng uv-5r and it didn't say anything about it being illegal when I bought it
Still for sale, They have soft locked the transmission on GMRS and FRS but its a 2 second override...
I see these are still for sell on eBay etc...are they a different version of this radio? Seeing as how they are illegal to sell now.
No, just lack of enforcement.
You can listen to ATC on airband
Love the blooper! KN4ZRW
Skywarn can be an interesting one to listen to during severe weather

What is the best radio to purchase for a first time buyer for around $ 100.00 2020 -2021
So many options at that price point. All depends on the features you value. I’ll be using a new radio just under $100 soon.
@@HamRadioInAction Would the tyt thuv88 be a good choice for a first radio>>

I have a question for anyone who knows about radios:
Are Baofeng or Ham radios dangerous???
Hello Brian! I want to know if I can transmit on murs with a baofeng and without a license?
A digi-PETER sounds like something my VR chat character uses in the restroom
