@scrapjoy, you very accurately hit the nail on the head! It is a holdover habit because I track my billable hours. Pretty soon I found I was tracking *everything*. A teensy part of it is for the book (that will make sense someday when the book is finally done), but, for the most part, is is sheerly habit. And it makes me feel better when I can't believe the week is done and I don't know where all I was & what all I was doing because it was so darn busy!
Argh! I always accidentally post too soon. Anyway, I was going to say you make the BEST videos! I can't function with two planners like you do but I love seeing how you set up and especially your reasoning for it. Keep them coming plz!!!
My secret weapon for keeping babies asleep is either a fan or a white noise machine in the nappers' rooms. REALLY HELPS! How? Home is an apartment complex. Besides all the usual noises, the grounds crew comes every Tuesday and mows the lawn at 7:00 AM. Right outside the bedroom windows. And they come back with leaf blowers and they come back for the front lawn and they come back for bushes etc. Then twice a week the garbage truck--three dumpsters. One side is a busy street. On other is a high school with baseball fields and track/football stadium and LOUD loudspeakers. There's a shortcut gate for the high school kids behind my building. Yeah. So my kids are grown but I'm a full-time babysitting grandma, and fans and white noise machines keep me sane and in business. My kids and now my grandkids have always needed to take their naps for me (so I could get mine lol) as much as for them. The Sacred Hour! Fans and white nose machines--and baby monitors--only way to go in my world. (PS Much nicer place to live than it sounds though lol)
Thank you Carie, another excellent video full of great ideas. Think I'd be getting another ff for the Moleskine pages! You have obviously put a lot of thought into how you work and how these organisation systems will help you, in your daily routine, make you more efficient. I've been trying but not getting too far yet. I tried a planner pad this year but I wasn't consistent enough with it. Too big and awkward. I really need to think harder as to how a system will work for me.
One thing really helped me more than any other when trying to settle on a system... I went to Philofaxy and printed different lay-outs. It was free and I could choose a Start Date for almost every layout that interested me, so I chose one, decorated it just a little bit (to keep my interest -- if I think it's pretty I'm more likely to look at it), and tried it for a week. I took notice of what it was lacking for my use, chose a different layout from Philofaxy, and started again.
Ah! You ARE rereading! I downloaded the first book and I'm going into chapter 3 now. Found the audiobook as well so I can listen on the go! Love your dividers...such pretty designs!
Thank you so much for asking! You're sweet. I do have it checked every year at my check-up. (I wondered how many videos I'd get posted before someone asked about it!)
Thanks for this video! I've been on the hunt for a good way to use two planners and yours gave me some great ideas. Oh and BTW...I'm on my second round of re-reading Outlander and I'm totally going to steal your idea of tracking the different characters and storylines ^-^
@Carie...I was thinking more along the lines of throwing some nails in front of the bike dude when he comes by! ROFL Great video! Loved seeing your layout! TFS!
Athletic tape works great as tabs too. Cut just a small piece, use some fancy scissors to trim the edges-texture if tape is fun. You can get colors, especially pink during Breast Cancer Awareness in October.
I do the same thing with my post it's lol I have them layered in a waterfall and there's one for target, micheals, etc and that's how I do my errands lists. Keeps me from scrolling through a big long list. Lots of great tips in here tfs
That's a great video idea! In the meantime, here's a quick description. Anything you print from Philofaxy has guides printed right onto the paper showing you where to cut it. I just line up the guidelines in my Fiskars paper cutter and slice! If you're referring to the dividers... honestly, I just used a divider that came with the planner and made small marks on the back side of my card stock. I then used the Fiskars to cut it and lined it up again with the existing divider to punch holes.
I do make my own dividers, and I label the tabs with Label Letters from Tim Holtz that I got at Michael's. I love that they look like label maker labels without the bulk of actually using a label maker.
Look at how pretty you made those boring white pages :) I love your style. Could be another binder is needed for your book which I can't wait to read someday. Thanks for sharing!
Looks like you need a 3rd Filofax for your book. I have 4 in my system at the moment; an A4 2x A5 and one personal! You can never have too many planners in my opinion :) Thanks for sharing, love all your videos and can't wait for your book. I'm about to have my 4th child and don't think enough parents share their journey. x
I'd love for you to share the 10 rules of writing a first draft if you don't mind! I love participating in Nanowrimo every year, but find I fall on my face if I try and write anything outside of November. I LOVE your set up! Thanks for sharing :D
Great video. I watched the first one you made a few of days ago and liked it as well. Thanks for sharing them. I love to read and was wondering if you could tell me the author of the Highlander series you were talking about. I tried to look it up but found more than one author.
I love your planners, how you decorate them is just so nice, adult like, and so pretty (I'll have to borrow some of your ideas; I am also looking in buying the Malibu day timmer-yours looks great). Thank you for sharing, yeh the motorcycle guy needs to babysit for you to understand how baby sleep is so important for the baby and mommy;)
I absolutely love your videos! Your ideas are so inspiring. You also crack me up haha. Please keep the videos coming! As for the motorcycle guy, he needs to get a taste of his own medicine. You sow drive by at night with the radio booming. That will teach him a lesson! Haha
I love your planner videos because I get some much information from them. Please continue to make more planner videos but I do have a question; can you go over how you cut your paper to fit into your personal filofax?
Another awesome video. Do you make your own dividers? Are the tabs done with a label maker or stickers? Would love to see a video on how you decorate your planners. Lastly, where is your blog? Can't get enough of your great ideas!
Hi, I love your videos! I hope this question isn't to invasive, but I'm a nurse and I was wondering if you have had that mole on your LT hand checked out? I'm not a specialist, but please have it checked! Thanks....hugs
Sorry, I ran out of room in my comment...your system is *amazing* and thanks so much for sharing it. I too am interested in what your book is all about
Try the compact size zipper pocket from Franklin Covey for your iPhone, it's wider than the one you have so you could zip it up, and the hole spacing is the same. Check out on their website. It makes me nervous that yours won't zip. I have an iPhone 5 also. :) Nice video! Very interesting. You have quite a lot of energy!!!! lol
I'm surprised you keep bills and payment things in your runabout planner. Do you pay your bills on the go? I tend to keep all that at home and have just a spending log in my portable book
Oh, it's a fantastic series. The first book is called Outlander, and the author is Diana Gabaldon. Let me know if you read them... this is one of my favorite series, and it isn't done yet!
@cherylynn927, you are sweet. Actually, when I was editing this before I posted it today, it hit me that no one had commented on it yet... people are *always* asking me if I've had it checked! I have, several times, and it gets checked at my check-up every year. I obviously make no melanin (do you see how *pale* I am?! :) ), so the doc is on the look-out for skin cancer. Thank you so much, though, for asking... if I'd never had it checked, I would now know that I should!
@Jaime Stevenson... the book is going to be about how I ended up with this crazy family. It was a *long*, crazy, kind of scary road, and now that I've survived all of that and have this amazing, hilarious, crazily-funny, loving family, I want to help at least one other person get through their Stuff, too. Several people who only know bits & pieces of the story have urged me for a while now to write a book about it, so I am. Finally.
Since I began printing out some of the essays, I've decided that I need a lovely binder to put them in for the editing process. I'm not particularly fond of editing, but having a lovely binder will urge me along! (Let's be honest... I'm completely justifying my sudden urge to purchase an A5 Malden...)
Hi - where did you get the middle sheet of the weekly that showed the horizontal time periods? That would really help me utilize my ARC planner better. Thanks, great video!
And maybe I lied a little about two planners. I do have a mostly monthly planner, have found that's how I function best over the years, but my financial stuff lives in a separate binder that never leaves my desk area and starting in September I use a separate planner for Christmas.
You aren't bothering me at all! I added it to the Description the other day but must not have clicked "Save" as well as I thought I had -- oops! I'm so sorry about that! It should be there now. If it isn't showing up, here's how you get there: Go to the Philofaxy website. Click Files in the Menu Bar. Scroll down through the A4/A5 Templates... the "Year Goals" sheet is the last listing for the A4/A5 size.
I went back and rewatched as I am trying to get my planners sync'd. What were the Calendar Pages used in the Desk Planner? I didn't see that in the Video on comments. 1Koolemom
1Koolemom I believe the Monthly Calendar pages in the desk size planner were the tabbed Monthly calendar from DayTimer. The Week on Two Pages in that planner were from philofaxy.com (the A5 Size).
Hi! Have to say I truly enjoyed your video. I am considering using two planners for next year. I don't have children yet but my work to dos and calendar have been so overwhelming. Most of the time, I saw myself not wanting to open the filofax once I was home. Is it still working for you?
It is still working beautifully for me. I still tweak things here and there as needed. The Desk Size planner is all family schedules and all of my big projects broken down into smaller tasks. I carry my Personal size everywhere with me, so that contains only my schedule and teensy notes regarding my husband's schedule so that we can plan who is driving what kid where when, if that makes any sense!
Sure! It's not a professional setup *at all*! I use my iPad to record videos, so I just stack a bunch of books with a slight lean to the book tower and put the iPad on top, pointing down toward the table. I took pictures of it for someone on Facebook not too long ago... I'll find those and put them on my website so you can see. It's much easier to understand with a picture than by me trying to describe it! Thank you for watching!
Carie, you really have to do more video's. I can't repeat watching your video's over and over again. Okay, I actually can. But I think it might not be considered "healthy" if I do. So, for the sake of my reputation (as a sane and together woman) I think you should post more video's. Here. I said it! ;-)
Those are some of my favorite dividers! They're actually just the A-Z tabbed dividers from Filofax -- I covered the tabs with origami paper and added the letter stickers (those are from Tim Holtz).
Motorcycle man is likely deaf from his own muffler by now and therefore deaf to anything anyone else has to say about it. Writing a daily time summary seems redundant...if you include your own to do items within the days planning that would seem to be enough info? Items that are checked off, both your own items as well as those relating to others, would serve as the evidence of where your time was spent. Maybe that's a holdover from recording billable hours elsewhere? Just wondering...
Let me know how the two planner system goes for you! So far I'm still loving it. My A5/Desk isn't so incredibly slam-full of detail, but I can still keep track of the ongoing projects. It's almost as though my A5/Desk has become my Big Picture Planner and my Personal has become my Focus/Detail Planner.
Yes... nails... I had also thought of an application of super glue to his seat. But that would require precision timing and ninja-like skills, neither of which I possess. I also just thought that I should wait until the next time I have a handful of bickering kids... I could send them to his front lawn to argue. Level up!
I haven't even finished watching this video in June 2017 and laughing my tush off....I have a motorcycle guy in my neighborhood too!! I admit to evil thoughts myself :)
@Tori21921, you're right... I should give him a taste of his own medicine. I should send a handful of bickering kids to his front lawn someday! Seriously.
@scrapjoy, you very accurately hit the nail on the head! It is a holdover habit because I track my billable hours. Pretty soon I found I was tracking *everything*. I love your cheerfulness and enthusiasm. Thank you for sharing your ideas and planner. I want to incorporate some of them into my lifestyle.

My Planned Life *Love* Outlander!

They're from Tim Holtz cardstock that I got at Michael's. I love them!

I'm so sorry to bother you, but I just can't find the URL for the goal sheets. I see the first draft link...
What kind of book are you writing I love to read
did you make your dividers from k +company card stock?

Would love to read it

They're Pilot Coleto pens. I use the four-color pen bodies. I got them at JetPens.com.

i am from the future!! Outlander lovers will be able to see it on tv in your future !!! LOL!

What is a hockey widow?
:) My husband works for a professional hockey team, so I've lost my husband to hockey. Much like my mom has always said she's a golf widow.

My husband and I ride bikes, and I HATE when people have Los bikes like that! It's just so unnecessary!
@Tori21921, you're right... I should give him a taste of his own medicine. I should send a handful of bickering kids to his front lawn someday! Seriously.

Too much talking not enough organizing
PS, love love love your videos!!
