For those asking "why no primer?" You don't need primer unless you bring the original paint down to bare metal. The existing paint and primer is, well the primer. That being said they came out great. Going to do this while I save up for custom rims on the car.
I just wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart man. I mixed your method with some of Chris fix's ones and my wheel came out STUNNING, I really mean it. The gloss black is so shiny, almost like a pro work(I spent more than 3 hours hand sanding it though, Talladega mk6r wheels are hard to work on). TIPS: The prep work is everything, bet everything on your prep work
Justin Buice hey buddy you didn’t use primer? I just did my style 230 bmw oem rims same graphite dupli colour high performance wheel coating... I’m having an issue the paint is either not curing properly or it’s just not strong enough, I can chip of chunks with my nail... any ideas why? Please would love to get your opinion man thanks ! I have an e90 as well
Thank you for the video. I just finished painting my wheel's rims. I am impressed with the results. Saved me a lot. I thought on changing my rims but prices are off the charts.
Good job! I figured after some time, the clear coat will have a chance to cure and the orange peel will become thinner. Going to be doing this to my beemer this weekend and I enjoyed the tips.
I wouldn't use such a fine grit before paint, it won't adhere as well but everyone has their different style and the results speak for themselves. Great job!
Evokidd96 You need to finish with a fine grit otherwise you risk visible scratches from to coarse of paper. And if that happens no realistic amount of paint will hide them.
Love the Graphite color! I was thinking about buying new rims for my 3 in that color but after watching your video.. I'll just paint them! Thanks for the great instructional video!
Just the kind of video I was looking for. Straight to the point. Awesome job. Now what's left is for me to try it. Think I'll practice with the spare wheel 😁
Good videos lately jb! A few suggestions for future topics, tuning the n52/3 engine, specifics on headlights (BMW parts are really confusing there), interior mods like wrapping and maybe a bit of you driving the car fast??
Justin, your vids have the baddest ass background music, I particularly like the music in your oil change video. I left a comment on that video too asking you to please tell me what it is. Great job on those rims man! Thanks
Just doing my 23 inch Porsche rims. In 2 days i manage to clean and prep just two rims for 3 diferent colors. Well the project will take me up to 4 days.
@Justin Buice good job with the videos very very helpful and entertaining. i had a couple of questions 1. while sanding the wheel is the paint not gonna stick if i forget little spots. should 100% of it be sanded (my wheels are brand new, alloy, literally used them for a month) 2. while spraying did you follow the shapes of the rim or did you just spray the top? cause in the video seems like you just spray from the top your answer would be appreciated
+mark kapllaj you should try to sand 100% of the surface otherwise they can chip easily because the spray paint will have trouble sticking to anything glossy. Just be careful not to sand through the paint thats on the wheel. You DONT want to go down to bare metal because the paint will stick better to the paint thats already on there. I followed the shape of the wheel, it might be hard to tell from the video but i sprayed the spokes from the side as well as the top.
Cool video - quick question i have a dark grey f10 5er with gunmetal m5 wheels.. Wat colour would you recommend to paint my calipers ? And have you considered painting yours? Pls make a video if u do!
Well let me just tell you that by watching your videos you gave me a lot of confidence in finally doing those restoration things myself instead of spending exaggerated money for something so simple. Even the oil change is from now on going to be done by me. Thanks.
Hey man so I have been looking all over for some info. I have my aluminum wheels I will be painting they are all sand blasted and ready for paint I am going to primer that's especially for aluminum wheels. The paint I'm using is for aluminum but not especially for wheels. My question is, should I sand the primer after my coats? I've heard from a painter I should just to make the paint stick better. But Isn't that what prepping the wheels is for? Haha your feedback would be great! Thanks!
+Shawn Roufosse it depends on the primer that you use but id say yes, sand it. mostly because primer can sometimes dry with a rough finish and if you paint gloss on top of it, it may come out uneven. Just use a really fine sandpaper so that you dont burn through the primer to bare metal.
You go to a paint/automotive store and ask for paint on spraycan suitable for Rims. Or just look for autopaint yourself, most paint directed to the general car can also be used on your rims.
my rims have some metallic silver coming off...its like hard metal peeling off...how do you redo them? I dont think sandpaper is going to smooth them out its way too rough
You could take them to a shop that does powder coating and they will sand blast them which is a process that quickly removes the finish down to bare metal. However, having the wheels sand blasted and powder coated can get expensive.
JRabbit if you don’t, you can see the scratches in the new paint. Unless they’re light scratches and you use primer to fill it in, but then it would be ideal to sand the primer so the paint. Texture isn’t rough or blotchy

Nasim Wehbe, glad you commented this. I was wondering about primer.
Thanks!
These are aluminum wheels... I guess they are not painted
how many can of spray paint will be use in 4 wheels?
I just wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart man. I mixed your method with some of Chris fix's ones and my wheel came out STUNNING, I really mean it. Wow dude that turned out really good
Thanks!
I've done my rims with this color yesterday, I'm really satisfied with Duplicolor's quality 👌
I put my wheels to dry and they got a
stolen thanks
Walter Kerber hahaha
Walter Kerber Hahahaha 😂
Walter Kerber haaaaahahaha
LMFAO 😂😂😂
hahahahahahahahahahaha i laughed so much i nearly died
Fantastic video you painted like a pro, here in Australia they wanted to powder coat my rims $200 each so going to do them the same way you did.
By the way, the orange peel went down considerably after giving the wheels a few hours to dry!
Justin Buice what’s up bro how long did these last? And I want to paint my wheels black😎 any suggestions? Dope channel 🔥
Curious how come no primer and how are they holding up 2 years later?

@@gokit.o.5422 thats not good. Pretty uncommon for this paint. Which primer did you use?
Thank you for the video. I just finished painting my wheel's rims. I am impressed with the results. Saved me a lot. I thought on changing my rims but prices are off the charts.

I’m up at 1am watching this and I’m happy I did , I’m doing this to my e92 335i 🙈

michev40 nope! Primer and paint will fill in fine scratches.
Tried to put wheels out in the sun to dry... Live in England so no sun... Still waiting for them to dry!
said the exact same thing to myself before reading this lol
Legends say that u r still waiting for them to dry
Have they dried yet?
just use a leaf blower.
bdrumnbass1 bro - That is a horrible idea. Too powerful. Not to mention youll be blowing dust and dirt all over wet paint.
Love the Graphite color! I was thinking about buying new rims for my 3 in that color but after watching your video.. I'll just paint them! Thanks for the great instructional video!
Great video
Btw your winter wheels are my daily wheels
Nice bro...looks like I have a weekend project coming up.
thanks!
Literally best car video I've seen. Good job bro!
Thanks man I appreciate it!
For winter wheels it looks awesome, they are going beat up anyway so it doesn't need to be perfect.
That came out petty nice, not too bad from a few feet away. great color as well.
Hope you have a video about adding clear coat to matte color rims with out sanding
This is the exact color I'm looking for and just in time because I was about to pick up a different spray paint. Thanks!
Gotta say, really doesn't look half bad!
any advice on how to remove overspray from tires?
paint stripper and a small hard plastic brush
How long did it take for the paint to start peeling?
They came out so good! Good job man! Subscribed
Best spray paint job i have seen on youtube
Thanks!
0:47 goes with the beat
Nice video! I really enjoy watching your tutorials. Great job!
Those came out great . Love that color
Just the kind of video I was looking for. Straight to the point. Awesome job. Now what's left is for me to try it. Think I'll practice with the spare wheel 😁
Great job and nice beautiful charcoal silver grey. My question is can I just spray on top of the dark paint just to cover the old paint?
Great tips my friend! Badass review!
Good videos lately jb! A few suggestions for future topics, tuning the n52/3 engine, specifics on headlights (BMW parts are really confusing there), interior mods like wrapping and maybe a bit of you driving the car fast??

Sick video ! Really explained it well
Nice man, I was really impressed by how that turned out. Looks great!
GREAT VIDEO ! I needed help restoring my rims
Thank you!
how long should you take between coats ?
Great Video bro +Justin Buice
Hi Justin. What do you think about using a plasti-dip?
Just doing my 23 inch Porsche rims. In 2 days i manage to clean and prep just two rims for 3 diferent colors. Well the project will take me up to 4 days.
Justin what's is the color u use for paint the wheels? N how many sprays u think is enough for the 4 set?
Hi great video, do you sand the paint before the lacquer??? Or put it straight on to the paint like 12 hours later?
I like the color! great job!
Very cool. I am going to do this on my 93 ford ranger. What was the color you used?
How many cans of paint did you use for all four tires?
Before and After shots would have been really cool! Nice video overall though!
Nice job! Great video. Thanks for sharing.
How long did this paint last on the wheels ??
Which rims do you keep on the car during the summer?
thank YOU, u did easy way and fast, came out good
How do they last through car washes?
Curious if this method would work on Chrome wheels?
Sick mate! 💪💪💪
Awesome video , keep up the good work!
looks really good. great video
+Dennis Ludlow thanks!
Came out brilliant. How many cans did you get through. I have the same wheels that are in desperate need of a repaint
would also have been nice to seeit on the car, but thanks for the vid.. I'm doing mine Saturday
Neat job as always 👍🏻
What about the barrel of the rim?
I might have to do this to my rims! What are your summer wheels? I've been looking for something similar
Really impressivs finish. might even do this to my dads BMW. Great video and results!
+UlicanteLegend98 thank you!
this is the exact color i was looking to paint my wheels on my 2010 black maxima
Great results, good job..
Amazing work bro 😍
+Junaid Aljunaid thank you!
Hmm I never would of thought about some of that stufff man thanks for the tips!!! I'll have to do the same, it's crazy how much better they look
yeah i think they look pretty good!
Using this duplicolor wheel paint do you have to use primer or no??
Wheels came out great
thanks!
I just did my rims in duplicolor silver an clear and am kicking myself for not going graphite on my gray truck, should I wet sand before respraying?
Approximately how long would this take for all fours? I'm guessing it's an all day job?
What happens if you don’t use clear coat??
Great video. I wanted to know how many spray cans do I need for 4 wheels?
Probably two cans of paint and two cans of clear to do all four wheels
did i miss the primer?
How many hours to dry?
Good job done 👌
Ah man no after shot of them on the Bimmer? Nice video the one came out great.
+Braeden Dempsey thanks! Not yet, waiting to get winter tires mounted. Wont be for a few months
Wow! Looks great.
+Beyond 1000. Thanks!
I'm doing this when I get my is300 this upcoming week
Good job, looks good.
Nice work. Nice rims though. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks!
Is the clear coat needed???
+rudy nava clear coat adds depth and makes them more glossy
Are the tpm sensors built into each stem inside the tires?
+rajanroo it depends on the year. Mine does not have them built into the stem (2006). But I believe the newer ones do
@Justin Buice good job with the videos very very helpful and entertaining.

They look amazing i will try itt
great vid as always
+Vick vick thanks!
what color was that?
Nice bro what color did You use?
Now I Read description tank!
Nice job brother.
Thank you!
Is kind of paint removable like plasti dip or its fixed kind of paint? Thanks!
The paint in the video is permanent. I've used plati dip on wheels and I find it can be hard to clean
Cool video - quick question i have a dark grey f10 5er with gunmetal m5 wheels.. Wat colour would you recommend to paint my calipers ? And have you considered painting yours? Pls make a video if u do!
For your car, I would do dark blue like the M5's have. when I do mine, I will probably do silver. I like more of a stock look myself
Thanks I was thinking blue or gloss black.. I think gloss black would look bad ass on your car and not too flashy either
That's OK if your rims are in good condition, it's a lot harder if you have older rims
With this paint, do you not need to put primer on first?
I used the primer that was already on the wheels since I didnt sand down to bare metal
Justin Buice thank you
Do you have a picture of how your car looks with those winter wheels painted that color?
+Jorge Avila i ended up getting different winter wheels. I found a used set that already had winter tires mounted
Well let me just tell you that by watching your videos you gave me a lot of confidence in finally doing those restoration things myself instead of spending exaggerated money for something so simple. Even the oil change is from now on going to be done by me. Thanks.

Came out incredible I might start doing my x type jag s type wheels btw what song used
Im tempted to do this!
Why do you chose spray paint over plasti dip?
It depends on if you want it permanant or not
So would you say that the paint is more durable in the long term than plasti dip?
Suppose my wheel is in very good shape with few to new scratches -- do I still need to use sand paper?
JRabbit if you don’t, you can see the scratches in the new paint. Unless they’re light scratches and you use primer to fill it in, but then it would be ideal to sand the primer so the paint. Texture isn’t rough or blotchy
They look great too me 👍
