Yes , the Waverley route was a sad loss . I remember going on a day’s excursion to Edinburgh in the late 1950s . It was a Morecambe schools day out , we went up the Waverley, visited the Forth Bridge , Edinburgh Castle , the Zoo , Holyrood Palace , travelled on the maroon buses . Back to Morecambe via Carlisle, nobody was lost , full marks to all our teachers, god bless them . Those were the days , not a diesel in sight , apart from LMS 10000 & 10001 on the Royal Scot from Euston. Cheers, DaveH

Well at least some of the line has been restored from the Edinburgh side. It would be nice to see some restoration from the Carlisle side too.

Thank you SO much for posting this! I was on the WRS trip on 11.12.1965 and it's very interesting to see 60528 at work on the gradients. I seem to recall it being very cold near Whitrope, not least because I had my head out of the window taking pictures! Do you have any more footage from this train? I recall that 45697 was not exactly worked hard over Ais Gill.

Did you take this video or is it someone else’s? If you took these videos, why are you only uploading them now? Sorry with all the questions, I’m just imagining it must have been cool to see this era of British Railways and a world before the likes of the internet and mobile phones.

Do you have a date for this? I was at the Carlisle end - taking a still photo as it crossed the Eden Viaduct.
