6 ATTACK ON TITAN Things to Do in Hita, Japan!

  • READ FOR TIPS BELOW!
Been travelling around Kyushu and we HAD to make a stop in Hita! When I found out this was Hajime Isayama’s hometown, I knew there had to be something there to commemorate Attack on Titan, and it did not disappoint.
Aside from seeing life-sized statues of Levi, Eren, Mikasa, and Armin, there’s other stuff to check out too. We weren’t able to do it all, so we definitely want to go back in the future.
Some tips to make your trip go smoothly:
    1. Get familiar with the app beforehand. It’s not particularly difficult to figure out, but you don’t want to spend precious time on the day-of fumbling through the app.
    2. Start your day early! I mentioned precious time because some things are time-sensitive. A lot of places (like the museum) close between 5-5:30.
    3. Getting from one place to another also requires some planning, if you don’t have a car. From Hita station to Mizube no Sato (where the museum is) is a 20-min bus ride (a bus that runs ~6 times a day), or a 30-40$ taxi ride, or a 2 hour walk. So you need to plan accordingly; you can get a timetable for the bus at the Hita Tourist Information Center. On the other hand, there is no bus between Mizube no Sato and Oyama Dam, which is ~13$ by taxi or a 40min walk.
    4. The walk between Oyama Dam and Mizube no Sato is honestly beautiful, and a great opportunity to explore the Japanese countryside. It’s a 40 minute walk, I would recommend it if you are able and have the time.
    5. Download a camera-translating app for the character cut-outs and for the museum. A lot of the artwork has descriptions next to it in Japanese that you can translate to learn more.
Let me know if you have any questions! Hope you get to visit one day.

Hello, what kind of transportation did you ride when you went to Oyama Dam? Are there any buses available from Hita Station?

Did you guys drive to Hita? Is it hard to drive in Japan?

We were staying in Beppu, and we took a bus from there to Hita! Next time we’d rent a car to explore Hita though. A lot of Japan is easily accessible by public transport, but for some areas it’s better to have a car. I personally never drove while I was there, but it didn’t seem particularly more difficult than driving anywhere else!

@@CurlyNoKyojin thanks! I had to go look at a map to see where that was and it's close to the Onsen we want to stay at in the fall! How far was Beppu to Hita by bus? Then you had to walk around 20 minutes to the Dam no?

@@TwoTicketsToAdventure Ooo which onsen are you going to? The bus was 1-1.5hours, it dropped us off at a stop on the side of the highway and then we walked ~15-20mins to get to Hita station. Hita station to Oyama Dam on foot is like 2 hours! Instead we took a 20min bus to Mizube no Sato (where the museum is), then took a taxi to the Dam (it’s that or a 40min walk). We did the walk back to Mizube no Sato and it was beautiful so I’d recommend it! Then bus back to Hita from there. If you haven’t already, check out the info under the video for some tips!

@@CurlyNoKyojin omg I should have just gone to the description area on this video 😂😂🤦🏻‍♀️ But thank you, you've been a lot of help. I'm just trying to figure out how we can do this without renting a car. I know there is options but dang, someone locally needs to hop on a service/tour that does this trip from Tokyo or Osaka 😂 They'd make a killing. Especially if they want tourism in the area.
I'm a huge AOT fan and there's no way I'm going all the way to Japan to not see Isayamas original work at the museum. Let alone that Levi statue.
The Onsen we're staying at is Takaragawa Onsen! Tattoo friendly and love it's history. Super excited about this trip. We will be there for 2 weeks! 🙌🏻

@@TwoTicketsToAdventure Hahaha it’s no problem! I’m glad I could help.
I loooove AoT, there are so many anime events happening throughout the year, like cafés and limited-time themed stuff at some stores, convenience stores, etc. but to go to Hita where AoT was everywhere was just 👌🏼
Takaragawa Onsen was great, I enjoyed it! When are you going? I have like 3 Beppu videos I need to make, maybe they’ll be ready in time for your trip.
