This game has been excellent for me. I'm near 30 hours in and I'm loving it, I've had very few issues. I have to wonder how many of the people whining about performance on PC either A) don't have a strong enough computer and didn't bother to check the spec requirements or B) don't know what a GPU driver update is. And for the ones whining about the MTX stuff, you can obtain EVERYTHING in the MTX store by just playing the damn game. There is no reason to buy the MTX stuff unless you're gullible or so impatient that you don't want to play the game (?) - in short, people just want to whine and cry about everything these days. These blind fools didn't even bother giving the game a good test run, they saw the MTX and immediately review bombed a fantastic game.

Just looked at the review by Forbes. Evidently, the egregious microtransactions were detailed in the material that came with the review copy from Capcom. Why weren't they mentioned in this review? Seems like an important thing to be conspicuously absent.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't it used to be that ACG bought their own copies to avoid biased reviews? That was the whole reason I subbed, so I could have an honest and fair review of a game instead of a publisher or developer "guided" review. It's very disappointing to see several glaring omissions by ACG on the subjects of DENUVO, a DRM client that is notorious for bogging down gameplay performance in every game it has ever been in and blatant day 1 microtransaction abuse. Server side save files for characters that prohibit new character creation or recustomization without needing to pay for it. How these and other frankly inexcusable practices and issues in a $70 game went unmentioned in this review is concerning because I feel an earlier version of ACG would have absolutely called out this or any game that had even a portion of the problems exhibited here.

I’ve noticed that. People that played review versions of the game don’t bring it up the issues I’ve heard at all. Even the ones I know 100% would speak on it. Makes me wonder why?
No single-player game with performance issues on launch should be labeled a “buy.” Just wait for the price to drop to $40 in a couple months and the performance will be better then too.
@@BRichB lmao that’s a pretty dumb take. First of all, elden ring did have performance issues on launch. Second, by that logic no dev has any incentive to release a stable a game on launch.

How come you didn't mention in the same Capcom e-mail you got for the game review code that they also also provided a list of all dlc microtransactions for the game?
I noticed you didn't mention the egregious microtransactions. How you are essentially forced to spend real money to change your appearance, pawn inclinations, etc. Also, how you can't start a new game once you've already made a character unless you turn off cloud save and manually delete all your save files. Did Capcom already get rid of those things, or did you omit these aspects from the review?

So why no mention, at all, of the RMT shop? There's no way this wasn't known before hand, as another review has clearly stated that it was in the press information.
It was known beforehand. Jez Corden reviewed the game for WindowsCentral and said it was included in the review guidelines. Probably a nice bonus from Capcom for not mentioning it. Non issue, the items that allow you to do that are available as soon as you enter the first town. They’re also cheap to buy so it isn’t even prohibitive.
You redo your character by spending 500 gold at the first town. Also why are people throwing such a big fit when all Capcom games even to this day have MTX shops just as predatory.

So... is your review going to change based on its dogshit PC performance and adding microtransactions AFTER review embargo lifts of items such as port crystals and inclination change incense for pawns even after the devs claim that fast travel is limited cuz it was 'their vision'?
Frame rate is fine for me on PC. The fact is that people are demanding photoreal graphics but don’t want to pay for the processing power which makes that possible. It’s a shame Sony and Microsoft under-engineered the GPUs on their ‘current-gen’ consoles to hit a lower price point (or maybe it’s a shame people think they should be getting 4090-level graphics performance out of a $400 console?). It’s also a shame Capcom used Denovo DRM on this game because the performance would be better on older hardware without it.
If only, it's unlocked and jumps all over the place without even an option to lock it to 30. Though in the city the Fr can even dip into the twenties apparently. And have you seen the draw distance for the NPCs? Literally a stone's throw away from you in some areas, it's ridiculous
I mean there were technically MTX in previous Capcom games like DMC5 and RE4 Remake. Those “DLCs” shouldn’t exist in the first place either, but at least they could easily be earned through normal gameplay and wasn’t so badly pushed, which imo is why most people didn’t care about them. While in DD2 they took steps way TOO far that made the freaking game mechanics into micro transactions (character customization and fast travels), which seem let people finally realized their terrible monetizations.
The mtx in DD2 are as ‘offensive’ as all the ones present in the recent resident evil games since 7 and all the recent monster hunter games and the last devil may cry game, they’re not a big deal

The community seems to be up in arms about them as they include a charge just to change your characters appearance or a charge to be able to revive your characters... were they not put in the preview copies given? Not saying this to be hostile, just genuinely curious when so many reviews on this are positive but player reviews are much more angry at the developers practises.
Yes because the review Copy probably had no DRM and MTX in it. Then Bait and Switch at Launch hence the Negative reviews on Steam right now and the Refunds i am on the edge of refunding myself and buy a Pirated Copy for zero dollars.
The only microtransaction that really is an issue is paying $2 to change your characters appearance. And them preventing you from deleting your character or having more than one character. Strange how you could make several characters in the character creator they released before the game. What was the point in that if you can only have one character.
Not even mentioning denuvo or microtransactions ? Man I started watching your videos cuz you were free to express your opinion in an unbiased manner but it seams to me that you're just now part of the system like many others.
You realize this video came out before launch. The mtx weren't knotted about by anyone yet. Denuvo, i dunno, wasn't new. They posted it on steam a while ago.
i think the problem with DD2 (and DD1) isn't the game itself per se. It's that the game design is inherently divisive, you'll either love it or hate it.
I think that's a good thing. It means it's actually doing something specific rather than trying to appeal to everyone (Ubisoft games) while not really satisfying anyone.
That's fine, not every game should flatten itself out to be all things to all people. Capcom made a sequel primarily for people who played the first one and asked for more...for ten years.
You should really think about doing as Capcom did, and make late revisions to the review to make potential buyers aware that micro transactions are now part of the package.

Sad to see your channel endorsing corporate greed. Your reviews were so good in the past.
@ACGreviews Yeah it would be. To be fair the more I have seen and understood that even on an RTX 4090 people are struggling for 60fps, so it's looking unlikely for now. I think the best they can aim for is performance stability. Capcom are normally very good on performance, but decision making wise someone has dropped the ball somewhere.
There’s no rug that got pulled bud. Yeah they offer all kinds of stuff to buy but you don’t need any of it unless you want it, don’t get sucked into the angry hype without really knowing.
13:30 just a heads up, variable refresh rate does not work at 30fps or below. Most TVs/monitors will have a spec sheet showing the VRR range and I’ve never seen a TV with a range at or below 30fps. It usually starts at about 40fps. 🤓

Tbh I kinda feel for yt reviewers since Capcom decided to add a list of MtX after reviews came out. But even so, it also kinda makes me trust the reviews a bit less. So glad I held off on buying, as performance and MtX mean this is an easy do not buy. Major reason the first game is a cult classic, is that most people bought it for less than $10.
Hey I just wanted to say that your dragon's dogma dark arisen review from 8 years ago was the first video i saw for this channel and the reason i got the game. Thanks for that review and all your reviews since then, cheers!
Yeah, it's the downfall of pumping out reviews at a corporate rate. Few people actually play games like that. Like, I may be an oddity, but most major games take me months to complete. Witcher 3, RDR2, GTA V, RE2&3, God of War etc. all took me nearly a year to beat. Few hours here, few hours there. I do like Angry Joe's reviews for that reason, he plays them over a few weeks at his own pace. Much more like how most people actually play games. Not plowing through in 2 - 12 hour sit downs or whatever, haha.
I agree, but I also don’t mind watching these videos knowing what I know now and seeing what people think on elements that aren’t MTX or performance issues. I take RUclips reviews with a grain of salt anyhow, they’re just as susceptible to corporate trickery (adding mtx after initial reviews, etc.) as any other when it’s pumped out this quick. I appreciate the more nuanced, longer deep dives where time is taken to analyze…well, any piece of media in much greater detail. I forget who made it, but there’s this really long (hours long) Oblivion review I really like, and has made me understand that game on a deeper level ❤️
I'm glad the steam review are at: "meh" instead of good because of the macrotransactions. it's a 70€ (pc) 80-90€ (console) game. F*ck that. Addition as a bonus, the classic denuvo. The fact you can't create multiple saves is amazing to see. I'm gonna wait for the modders if they will be any since capcom is chasing them. Appart from that BS, the game seems to be super fun.
Dragon's Dogma was one of my favorite "Oh this looks cool," pickups in the ps3 era. I am beyond psyched that this one is being so well received and that it's blowing up. I feel like the original was criminally overlooked. Pumped to start playing it tonight. Great review as always, and those character portraits in the corner had me cracking up.
Thank God for ACG or I would have never bought the game. I played the first Dragon's Dogma (Dark Arisen,) and I've always considered one of the best wizard power fantasy ever made. The world is awesomely built, the pawn system makes the game really enjoyable and the spells...well, the spells hit like a meteor (HA!) In any case, there's too much content out there saying that the DD2 is unplayable on PC, or that it feels more like a remake of the first game. If you ask me...Dragon's Dogma 2 is one of the best action-rpg games out there. Great characters, great voice acting, huge world, and it does what Morrowind did great over 20 years ago - It forces players to travel slowly through the world, making them really appreciate the world design and the visuals. I've played DD2 for around 200 hours, haven't had any crashes, game-breaking bugs, or issues that would hamper my enjoyment of the game. As for the micro-transaction discussions...they don't sell anything exclusive. They feel like paid cheats, but anyone could easily do the same with a hex editor. All in all, one of the best games I've played in the past decade.
I've never seen so many trusted reviewers just miss on a game like this. The original must have come out at some perfect interval for nostalgia or something. One save game and no new game feature is absolutely insane. Then you have all these MTX's and performance issues for a $70 game. The camera feels awful in game. The pawns won't stfu and using B on your controller for everything is clunky as hell. Not to mention the movement is too. Takes like 30s to loot a corpse every time
It’s not necessarily a miss, many reviewers have said this game will either be for your or it won’t. And I’ve seen a bunch state that clearly they didn’t make this game for new people but for the people who loved the original dragons dogma or would love these style of games. So just cus many trusted reviewers saying they like this game doesn’t make it a miss just because you didn’t

@@loremir1994Would you prefer the game was just easy, so that busy/casual players wouldn’t have any problem getting into it? Personally i think the way this game is balanced to be deeper and more difficult than Western RPGs is an important part of its DNA. This game, but made easier for casual players, would no longer be this game. So what’s the solution for allowing casual players to play? If you included the extras for free with the game, everyone would just use them, and the game is no longer balanced as intended. MTX are not the intended way this game is to be played. And that’s as it should be.
@@loremir1994it dosnt take advantage, all the DLC is insanely easy to obtain in game. For instance the “fast travel” dlc. Even then, you still need to actually go to where you want to put the fast travel point, and using it costs a rare item that’s limited and expensive to get in game and can’t be bought via dlc.

I just wish this ps3 game wasn't so expensive. I'm not paying for a 30 fps ps5 game I just won't do it at this point.
13:30 just a heads up, variable refresh rate does not work at 30fps or below. Most TVs/monitors will have a spec sheet showing the VRR range and I’ve never seen a TV with a range at or below 30fps. It usually starts at about 40fps. 🤓
This is my go-to reviewer. His take on games is well thought out and I have loads of respect for what he does. However, if you listen to the podcast you know he has a blind spot for this series. No mention of microtransactions or the fact that they've not included any normal way to delete a save, or restart from the beginning? This is disappointing dude
The Microtransactions weren't available for reviewers
@@2Scribble not true at all, they were all given a list of them, once that got exposed alot of them are back peddeling on saying they never knew about it, I know yong deleted his community post saying he didnt know, think acg did to.
Will be buying later on in the year after shadow of the erdtree also gives capcom time to iron out some issues. Thanks for the review man!!
Don’t buy it at full price

Hey I just wanted to say that your dragon's dogma dark arisen review from 8 years ago was the first video i saw for this channel and the reason i got the game. Thanks for that review and all your reviews since then, cheers!

Reviewers knew about the microtransactions and failed to mention it even if you didn't care it should have been mentioned
Hours into this game and I’ve never bought a micro transaction. Every game is micro transactions. I don’t like them so I don’t purchase them.
I'm starting to believe that it might not be a good thing to review a pre-released game early...
This is why Angry Joe started buying his copies when the game launches for everyone and drops the reviews later.
I forget who made it, but there’s this really long (hours long) Oblivion review I really like, and has made me understand that game on a deeper level ❤️
is monetization really that bad or are people just being reactionary?
@@jal-kx6tm I mean, I think they're requiring you to pay a few bucks to customize the look of your character. Or more than 1. Which is wild
The world is awesomely built, the pawn system makes the game really enjoyable and the spells...well, the spells hit like a meteor (HA!)
In any case, there's too much content out there saying that the DD2 is unplayable on PC, or that it feels more like a remake of the first game.
@@TheOnlyDarias It literally says "Masterworks all" in the title. That's pretty disingenuous when you can't even have more than one character per steam account, only two saves which can completely screw you over and lose hours of progress and massive performance issues along with MTX. It's way more than just "I didn't enjoy the gameplay"
so a couple things, the first games pawns were also annoying as hell there is a option in both to shut them up, the first game also relied on 1 save file it did have a new game feature it just killed off the current character was only really used if you wanted to change sex or go from a large to small character, camera was the same in 1 its really a either you hate or or like it kind of thing, its there to make grappling monsters less nauseating.
The B button was changed from DD1 to DD2 and i have no idea why they made it a hold instead of a click and its annoying.
they sneaked in these microtransactions right after launch. Reviewers who played before launch where left in the dark as well and caught of guard like the rest of us. Capcom is scummy and wanted reviews out first.
@@bloomleaf8310 I am really struggling to understand the decision to only allow for one character per account
As much as I want support buying this game, but seeing that they sneakily added MTX to a full priced single player game doesn't sit right with me, I will skip this game. I don't want to hear the "it's optional" argument. They are selling warp stones which are rare to obtain in-game, and the director even said it was intentional because he wants players to travel around the world map discovering different things...but left out that there would be MTXs to buy said rare item.
It's optional.
@@hiddenflowerto its a bad business practice that people will buy, no matter how "optional" it is, my only issue with the way people are acting is that DD1 had a lot of the same MTX issues, but they bundled it all with dark arisen so most people are not aware of that.
Sponsored review by capcom, so many issues that reviewers have mentioned about this game. Honesty is hard to find it seems.

Several years ago your review of the original Dragon's Dogma made me buy and dive into that amazing world, now I'm back here, hyped for the sequel and hungry for interesting points of view that go deep into the mechanics.

A $70 game that charges you to change your character model (IN A SINGLE PLAYER GAME, WHAT THE ACTUAL F...), can't start a new character, says fast-travel isn't necessary and you'll WANT to walk point to point but then has a $3 MTX for showing you where/unlocking all the fast travel points. Classic Capcom approach. The performance on console is hilariously poorly optimized, dropping to below 20 FPS countless times, the camera is a mess, the companion AI is barely there. The game simply isn't finished, don't buy this yet.

If you included the extras for free with the game, everyone would just use them, and the game is no longer balanced as intended.
