Great work! Speaking as an auto mechanic, one thing you may want to do long term, would be to replace those "wire twists" as you called them ( up here in Canuckistan we call them Marrettes) with crimp-style butt-connectors like the ring terminals you used on your power wire. You can even get ones with integral heat-shrink insulation. Wire nuts are mostly for stationary applications and buldings and in a vehicle are guaranteed to come loose.
@@RetroRecipes Even easier, replace them with wago connectors. They should work fine on 12V systems, and they have the added advantage of being easily removable.
Amazing advice - I’m an engineer in a different field, great at wiring electronics but I always get one of my vehicle engineering buddies to do the work on a car. But advice like this is invaluable!
You must have doubled teh weight of KITT with all of teh extra wiring clips and electtonics you have added.. Nostalgia rocks.Outstanding to watch this project progress
I know it's not a 100% excuse but I think that besides maybe the last owner not having the budget to get this job done properly, it was the environment in which he probably had to work in. The UK as you know is a cramped and wet cold difficult awkward place to live unless you are a multimillionaire. I hope they see what happened to the car and they are happy about it returning home

So happy for you and great work so far. Kitt looks way better than what he started like. One suggestion about the power feed for the light bar. It would be safer to have the fuse next to the battery rather than in the car just in case something happens in the engine bay to the wire. Sadly I speak from experience and luckily the fuse by the battery blew and saved my car. I have been hoping for someone to put all the bits of a Tesla into either a Trans Am or a DeLorean for ages now, I hope you do. All the best.
Good point! I discuss in episode one of KITTesla why I don't think that would work. Tesla's code is pretty locked down, and they cancel cars who try to hack. Also the cameras wouldn't align where Tesla expects them. It was my first thought but I think too far a stretch. Instead I put KITT in a Tesla!

Having grown up watching Knight Rider as a kid, its really a treat to see its inner workings. I'm glad this KITT landed in your hands as you are passionate and patient. We look forward to your future progress videos on KITTS restoration back to its "analog" elegance.
22:00 He is back! I would have kept it live all the time just for shows. You will want to do shows, oh yes you will. It is the best thing ever to show off such an iconic car! I WANT ONE!!!
Ahh yeah this is the problem when watching it then seeing it work on a remote. Even better. You can do kids birthday parties now! So many things you can do to make money back with that very special car.
@@theotherchannel2279 I probably won't turn it into a money thing as I just want to enjoy it for what it is - you know how it can be when you try to turn things you love into income generators. But plenty more fun to be had!
The work you have done restoring that car is fricking awesome. Love how passionate you are about the show and the vehicle. Can't wait for the A I update.
😲Crikey.. I am in awe.. YOU have brought KITT back to life for him , and all of us.. amazing.. even April/Bonnie would be proud.. and of course KITT.. just amazing.. and watching you work on KITT.. brings back so much emotion and memories when they had to fix him up.. this is remarkable and love it.. you are Knight Industries new technicien.. amazing. and Ace Mate to you and everyone involved.. just amazing!!! 😊🏆👌 ***as KITT would say '' PERFECTION''... just saying!!
Just like you I loved this show as a kid. In the early 90’s a neighbor of mine somehow had an authentic one and he would work on it from time to time. Whenever he did I would run over and watch. Your series gave me some serious nostalgia and I’m very grateful for that. I love your channel and everything you do here. Keep it up! BTW, his hubcaps fell off all the time too 😂
Awesome job on bringing K.I.T.T. Back to life, hard work really pays off! I couldn’t imagine having a replica K.I.T.T. of my own. Had a chance once, but with a family it came and went. Love the upgrades ❤
Can I just say, watching how happy you are on this journey makes me really happy. Even though I am a little younger than you, I still remember watching Knight Rider growing up, and I too get all the nostalgia kicks as you do. Keep up the excellent work. Cannot wait for the next update.
That transformation is pretty amazing! It's pretty clear this is just the beginning, so I can't wait to see the result when it's fully complete! Hopefully you can fit a baby seat in the back, so Babyfractic can grow up experiencing how that feeling of nostalgia affects others, not just you and Ladyfractic. It can only be a good thing to see the joy on people's faces when they're taken back to their childhood by meeting KITT in real life!
Yep absolutely loved this, man you have put some work in to this and man can you tell. I mean anyone who sees this will be like a big kid at Christmas you guy have done such an amazing job. Now all you have to do is get both the helicopter from AirWolf and the bike from Street Hawk😂. Keep up the great work and have a great weekend, take care and looking forward to seeing more of Kitt 🙂🙂
You floated the screens with wood screws? When they fall out, try instead to put brass posts in the sides of the screens and using some m2/3 screws with washers as spacer shims screwed into them. It will still float but it will be very solid. Love how far you’ve come!
Sometimes the parts aren't in stock here at Fractic HQ but the physics of how I laid out the screw positions means the screens cannot physically move, so as I said: 26:42 ;)
Ah I get ya - it's tricky because I don't show every single thing (would be a 3 hour video) but the screws have a dab of superglue in each hole :D I enjoy improvising when I don't have something there and just want to get it done. Screwy I know ;)
It's so satisfying seeing it all come together, those halogen lights really do 'make a difference'! Seeing the joy on people's faces at the end is so wholesome, you can just see the delight in their faces from the hit of childhood nostalgia. Looking forward to the next chapters! ❤
Frankly speaking, I was never a fan of "Knight Rider". I have seen maybe just a few episodes. However, this renovation episode of Retro Recipies is just awesome. It's amazing how this old piece of cinematography history - originally in so poor conditions - turns into the demon of roads. Greets from Poland!
Kitt looks awesome buddy. I'm not so sure about that guy with the nice hair claiming that there are still other Kitt vehicles still on the Universal lot. Better check him out with Joe and AJ at Knight Rider Historians. 🙂
Thank you for doing this, bringing a broken car back to be right for Michael Knight. And...of course perifractic and all the veiwers that now have a huge nostalgic smile on our faces.
Found myself smiling from ear to ear watching this the whole way through. It was awesome watching you do pretty much exactly what I would have done if I had the time and means to do so, and not just settling for a superficial facsimile. That AI idea is the icing on the cake, as is the (more important than you think) non LED front scanner. Love it, and looking forward to seeing more!
The car is awesome. I am 52. I grew up with this show. Great job. I am sure it brought happy tears and memories to 10's of thousands of Gen Xer's and other gens who love the show.
This was so therapeutic. Just watching you come up with DIY solutions to each problem, and making the best of it was quite inspiring. As a fellow KITT fan I knew I would never be able to get one (I went with a yellow 'bumblebee' Camaro) and this is as close as I think I'm ever gonna get to the 'feeling' of fixing one up LOL. Please never stop making KITT videos.
Wonderful episode, my friend! Loved every second of it. Your patience and hard work really paid off :) Not only that you made your dream become true, but you also take us with you on this journey and share your joy with us! Thank you so much for the shoutout, never ever expected it :) Awaiting the future episodes:)
@@LamerDeluxe Thank you my friend for the nice words! It was a wonderful surprise for me too :) This shows what a great and generous person Chris is ! He deserves all the success with his project and channel. Its just a matter of time :)
This is coming along nicely! I can see this car turning into a self driving, self aware AI, hybrid electric/*insert futuristic motor here* Kitt in the future after all the upgrades.
Without the red cover, that front scanner reminded me of KARR, be careful, now that is self conscious it might turn evil, you have to educate him properly.
That is so aweseome! The halogen scanner really took it to another level. Many of us are enjoying watching your journey with KITT. After seeing so many seriously dedicated fans building various KITT cars including remote controlled and auto-drive ones in addition to thousands of viewers on these channels, it's obvious this show was enormously popular and NBC really made a poor decision cancelling it in 1986. It's ratings were still good but they wanted to get on with making money through syndication rather than continue producing an expensive action show when they would rather be making cheap sit-coms. Thus all the networks cancelled the big action shows and the car chase era came to an end in 1986. Such a shame as we should have had a 5th season. Jack Gill promised they could keep production under 1 million per episode and sure, the 5th season would have been shot a lot on the studio back lot, and cheap, but at least we would have gotten more of our beloved show. Now the cars are all gone from Universal and most of the actors are dead or really old so there is no chance of re-launching it. Too bad they didn't do a re-launch in 1991. Anyway, keep up the good work. Very exciting!
Knowing how to do this kind of electronic work definitely helps with putting the Knight Industries Two-Thousand back together. Probably one of the most enjoyable KR restoration series.
"This is just amazing" The new halogen lights are glorious. What a incredible job you did with the car. Just a milestone you say. I can't wait for what is coming next. Thank you SO much for sharing your journey.
It's like You're almost building Your own KITT... incerdible work man! You deserve all the attention and fame You get when You are cruising on the streets in this piece of art
ya know.....after watching your KITT videos, and how much effort/time and $$$$ you've put in to it...and not threw in the towel, im somewhat impressed. Gone thru this process 3 times, and i know how much this can tax your patience. Glad your getting the enjoyment out of this project, you seem to sincerely have fun and really a love & passion for what your doing. Just a warning..... your never truly done. Best of luck, keep it up!
@@RetroRecipes You are really lucky. Most guys, when the lady is expecting a baby, are told to sell their sports car and get a sensible family car. You get Kitt! That is wild and probably another reason to love her all the more.
@@ben8447 To be fair I bought it before baby was even going to be a thing, but yes she's a very understanding wife. That said as mentioned in ep 1, it is a company car ;)
Wow fantastic work Christian! I was beginning to think this was a lost cause and no more updates. Thank you for all your hard work and bringing KITT back to life. The screens with animation were a highlight as were the upgraded scanner and sounds. KITT was and still is a true icon with immense nostalgia.
I worked extremely hard for decades to get to this point, but I also know how lucky I am. I invite you to join in the fun and share the happiness here - this is _our_ KITT.
Ok, seeing KITT in all his glory at the end got me a bit teary eyed. Awesome work fixing most of the damage. Can't wait to see your future repairs and upgrades, especially the AI one, that'll be crazy.
Watched from start to finish, great engineering and love your passion for KITT. You just need to get Airwolf, Street Hawk and the A Team Van to complete your collection!!
As a card carrying member of "I sat in Kit at the World of Wheels", I love this. Someone please 3D print a proper bezel for those screens. That tape wont make it long in the heat.
You’re living my dream and I don’t have no house with the money to do that but I can watch you thank you man. You’re amazing bringing kitt back to life back to life.
I enjoyed the efforts that went into the production of this. I enjoyed the references and music very much. As a Brit trying to work on his car in the heat of North Queensland Australai, I can totally understand why AC was prioritised. I look forward to more episodes.
Would be very cool with Tesla-like cameras that auto activate the scanner and scanning sound when someone approaches KITT as a proximity warning and plays a security animation on the monitors, and if the person doesn’t leave, to have KITT talk to them. I hope you a hid a separate UPS backed up battery and tracking GPS inside - unfortunately that car will be a theft magnet.
You are living the dream my friend. Hats off to you. I love this series. If you can get a conversational AI KITT working, then you would have really brought him to life.
@RetroRecipes Something you may be interested in adding to your setup is a Bluetooth Cassette adapter. For fun you may be interested in tracking down the Knight Rider GPS system that came out in 2008. I always wondered if there was some way to adapt the information that was coming from the engine computer to display on the KITT dashboard. That would be an awesome project.
So great to see how far this project has come since the guy rolled up with the “tired” version of KITT. Sharing your nostalgia for the series and the car, I definitely agree that KITT was successfully revived once the new scanner lights moved along the front. I’m glad this video series isn’t ending here though. Can’t wait for the next chapter. Thanks for sharing and congratulations on a such an interesting and successful project!

Man, the front scanner light is a game changer. Superb. Looks amazing. I am like you regarding cable management, no soldering :)
I like to solder, just not in a car, so I support that!
Seeing this all come together finally nearly brought a tear to my eye. What a thing! And I loooove the period-correct background music selections
***as KITT would say '' PERFECTION''... just saying!!
Keep it up!
BTW, his hubcaps fell off all the time too 😂
Hehe that's a good point they did! Thanks for your kind words - it means a lot to know people love what we're doing here so much! 🙏
Absolutely love it! Made me a tear in my eye.
Thank you!!
KITT is looking great. 'Not sure if it is possible bit it would be great to see you visit some on screen locations and compare then and now pics. :)
Sometimes the parts aren't in stock here at Fractic HQ but the physics of how I laid out the screw positions means the screens cannot physically move, so as I said: 26:42 ;)
@@RetroRecipes As I mentioned, “when”. It’s a car. They shake! No better part than the one you have., though. Carry on!
Great work. I've always loved KITT, he's got a style and presence all his own. No other car brings a smile to my face like KITT. Take care of him.
Oh I will!
Wow, that really made me feel super nostalgic, and its great KITT is in the hands of someone who appreciates it.
This is so incredibly nerdy, and I can't wait to see what you do next with KITT. Thanks for sharing your progress!
You could have said that unfrankly speaking you were a fan.
Congratulations on this fine looking finish, you did an amazing job, and a lot of fans proud.
I’ve absolutely loved this series! Really looking forward to more KITT content.
Wonderful episode, my friend! Loved every second of it. Your patience and hard work really paid off :) Not only that you made your dream become true, but you also take us with you on this journey and share your joy with us! Thank you so much for the shoutout, never ever expected it :) Awaiting the future episodes:)
What a cool surprise to see your work used here! I enthusiastically told my wife when I saw it. Really cool and well deserved!
@@LamerDeluxe Thank you my friend for the nice words! It was a wonderful surprise for me too :) This shows what a great and generous person Chris is ! He deserves all the success with his project and channel. Its just a matter of time :)
@@GeorgesChannel it is a really fun channel and I enjoy watching this project progress.
As a 45 year old fan from here in New Zealand I must say, JOB WELL DONE! Love the series and will continue to follow whats to come.
Excellent work, beautiful KITT replica 😎👍 Love that KITT animation made by Commodore, looks so period correct for original Knight Rider :)
Excellent season, we got so much joy from following the KITT restoration, your passion and love for this project really comes across. Thank you!
Great job! K.I.T.T. is alive again. I enjoyed this episode very much. I got goosebumps when the „scanner“ came alive. 👍🏼😃
You and me both!
Knowing how to do this kind of electronic work definitely helps with putting the Knight Industries Two-Thousand back together. Probably one of the most enjoyable KR restoration series.
Wow thank you!
"This is just amazing"
The new halogen lights are glorious. What a incredible job you did with the car. Just a milestone you say. I can't wait for what is coming next.
Thank you SO much for sharing your journey.
My pleasure!
Never caught one this early looking forward to seeing this restored to its former glory
My God, I welled up there at the final reveal, all the memories. Stunning job. And this was the first time I learned you guys are expecting! Congrats!
Bless ya. Thank you.
If Kitt gets lonely sitting in the driveway, perhaps you could install a Max Headroom AI to pop up on the viewscreens to keep him company.
I don't think this car can ever look bad.
Great to see her getting much love from her new owner.
The best part of the video was when you discussed your plan to make this car even cooler than it is right now! Great work!
Congratulations on getting your KITT to this point. Looks amazing and thanks for sharing your story with everyone!
I can't smuggle a retro Kit car toy into my mancave without my wife rolling her eyes. He gets to buy a frigging real one! Life is not fair folks.
That’s why mine is 1/24 scale and sits upon my gaming shelf.
It helps that Ladyfractic is a fan of KITT too :D
@@RetroRecipes You are really lucky. Most guys, when the lady is expecting a baby, are told to sell their sports car and get a sensible family car. You get Kitt! That is wild and probably another reason to love her all the more.
@@ben8447 To be fair I bought it before baby was even going to be a thing, but yes she's a very understanding wife. That said as mentioned in ep 1, it is a company car ;)
@@RetroRecipes wait until you see what I did with the pics you sent and the 1/24 scale KITT, I have. LF will dig it for sure. 😃
Wow fantastic work Christian! I was beginning to think this was a lost cause and no more updates. Thank you for all your hard work and bringing KITT back to life. The screens with animation were a highlight as were the upgraded scanner and sounds. KITT was and still is a true icon with immense nostalgia.
I resent you. Completely.
Resentment is a waste of energy. I prefer healthy envy from afar. 😂
I worked extremely hard for decades to get to this point, but I also know how lucky I am. I invite you to join in the fun and share the happiness here - this is _our_ KITT.
@@RetroRecipes this looks like a sex scam bot.... careful
It makes me feel happy watching this happen. Keep the updates coming.
Ok, seeing KITT in all his glory at the end got me a bit teary eyed. Awesome work fixing most of the damage. Can't wait to see your future repairs and upgrades, especially the AI one, that'll be crazy.
The gen 3 trans am/firebird really is a timeless and beautiful design. It still manages to look modern 40 years after it’s launch.
Well done you have done a brilliant job of the car or should I say KITT 👌👍☺️.
So great! Makes me want to watch the series again. I'm so happy for you!
Watched from start to finish, great engineering and love your passion for KITT. You just need to get Airwolf, Street Hawk and the A Team Van to complete your collection!!
i haven't seen any of your previous kitt videos but it looks like you're probably the best person to have and restore it.
Fantastic work. Great job being so persistent, inventive, and focused. Your car looks great.
As a card carrying member of "I sat in Kit at the World of Wheels", I love this. Someone please 3D print a proper bezel for those screens. That tape wont make it long in the heat.
Stay tuned!
Absolutely love it, your humor is on point, K.I.T.T. looks amazing and the music selection is epic!
Thank you for your kind words! Means a lot 👍🕹
Actually the dash already does that by default - it's pretty cool!
Dreams can come true, congratulations and well done on all the efforts it took to get you to this point... ENJOY!
Loved Knight Rider when I was a kid in the 80s. I'm 50 now and when I hear someone say "PCB" I shout "PCB WAAAAYY". And I also so when I'm using a screw driver I make the noise "Eeoo Eeoo Eeoo" while unscrewing something. Lol. I love your show.
The natural glow and fade of halogen bulbs is what brings the new light bar 'alive'. Excellent upgrade!
