A Singaporean here who went through that with the ration pack. Your comments are fairly consistent with my personal experience on that. Glad you enjoyed the ration.
You are right. When in operation, I would take the dessert as breakfast, plus the beverage powder. I would just empty the powder in my mouth and wash it down with water. We keep the coffee powder for nights when we had to stay awake. Haha😅 The biscuits and fruit bars were great as snacks or light meals when we were moving. The main meals were consumed when we had the time. Usually we just place the meal pouches on the vehicle’s engine hood and come back to eat them after setting up our area. Pocari sweat was a life saver in those conditions.
Nata here actually means nata de coco, which means coconut jelly, which was probably the translucent white cubes you ate in the video. It’s quite different from Nata. Hope this helps! 😊
That’s really interesting, thanks very much. It’s always nice to hear from someone who actually used the ration in the field. Yeah you’d need the coffee for the long nights 😁👍🏼 The pocari sweat was great. I could definitely see why it would be a life saver 😊👍🏼
Dessert as a breakfast? Your evil towards yourself hahaha. I always save it for end of day. Finish RM or Recee or Night Shift whatever it is, that's the time for the desert ahahaha
@AmTpGaMt The other two meal pouches didn’t seem nice for breakfast, which is why I’d go for the dessert as a breakfast. But I can see what you mean about having a dessert at the end of the day as a treat 😊👍🏼
Nata on the dessert pack meant Nata de Coco. It a jelly made with coconut fibres. And yes Milo and Ovaltine both exists in Singapore, with the market favouring Milo.

Thanks for the review! Sharing some of my experiences here from years ago: 1. If I had seen the insides of my main meal packs, I likely wouldn't have eaten them. The noodles looked ok, the rice looked disgusting. 2. Turn the biscuits into cakes with a bit of water from your canteen. Some friends pour water into the biscuit packaging and made cake. I just ate them dry. 3. The cereal bars were the best. 4. All powdered drinks were consumed as dry powder. Even coffee. I wash down the dry powder with water. 5. Nobody I knew actually cooked out in the field. It'd just attract ants.
Thanks for sharing yours experiences. Yes not the most appealing, but most ration pack meals don’t look great in their packaging. Great idea, I’ll try that if I get another one of these rations 👍🏼 Yes I liked the cereal bars too 😊 A few people have mentioned pouring the powdered drinks into their mouths. Not something I’d thought of. Yep I can imagine. I have a big problem with ants in my field. All the best 😊🇸🇬👍🏼
If Singapore has 20° C, we will all be celebrating! Our coolest for the last few years has been 21° C! When I serve Miami between 1987 to 1989, our own army boys, cook the food, horrible!😏 thanks for the review👌
Unofficial rules for field rations 1. Spicy ones taste best 2. The vegetarian ones are generally the worst ones 3. We can subsist off the accessory packs for days 4. Whenever available, ALWAYS HEAT IT UP!
we dont usually heat up our packs, we make a small hole & suck it out like a paste (most of time we ate during our march) milo powder can be eaten dry (if u are feeling bougie, wet chocolate cookies with powder milo) chocolate cookies tasted great soaked with a little water dessert pack are usually eaten for breakfast instead
Nata in this case refers to Nata De Coco some sort of coconut jelly bits... which is common in canned fruit cocktails and often used in shaved ice dessert.
Singaporean here, omg watching you eat the rations brings back so much memories. usually we just eat without heating it up, though heating it up would probably make it taste better.
Combat rations during my time were mainly canned food. I remember we have a can of curry chicken, can of beans in tomato, some dog biscuits, a small chocolate bar, jam for the biscuits, i think lipton lemon tea, isotonic drink powder
@@GreeklishOutdoors My mother actually likes the biscuit. But the camp sentry knows our training schedule and would check our bags to confiscate the chocolates and biscuits when we booked out on Saturday
Regarding those dessert packs, I was once on an extended cross country exercise in Australia where we didnt have enough water. Those dessert packs (mine was a barley soup) were life savers for hydration. I think thats why they're there. Served in 46 SAR, ORD in the early 2000s. Nice review.
I’m glad you had the dessert packs or you could’ve been in real trouble ☀️ From all the people I’ve spoken to, the dessert packs seem to be way more popular than the main meals. Thanks for sharing your experience. Have a great weekend 😊🇸🇬👍🏼
We jokingly call the biscuits “dog biscuits” because they’re so hard and dry. We usually dip them into hot drinks to make them more palatable, almost like a cake if you do it right. My personal favorite flavor is the coco, then the butter flavored ones.
Oh nice review there. Personally back when I was still serving my national service in the army, I would look for the accessory packs that have the butter biscuits, they actually come in 3 types, Chocolate, like the one you ate, plain wheat and butter. As you probably found out from trying it out yourself, it's pretty tough to bite down on hahah. An officer of mine taught me how to turn them into 'spongecakes" by just tearing off one side of the wrapping and while you are holding it, pour some water onto the biscuits so they get soggy and you can just chow down on a clump of them. Though in regards to the fruit bar, most guys in my platoon actually hold off on eating it until the last day of any outfield (field exercises) that we're on, as it is quite common for someone to need to use the bathroom after 4 or 5 days of rations have backed up in the system XD
Thanks very much. I didn’t know there were different types of biscuits. That’s interesting to know. Good tip with adding water to them. I get what you mean about the fruit bar 🤪👍🏼 Thanks for sharing your experience. All the best 😊👍🏼🇸🇬
On the Dessert entree, Nata actually refers to Nata de Coco, which is just jellied coconut water with a pleasant mild sweet taste. Personally, I usually consume the Dessert as soon as possible, either after either of the main entrees, or on its own, as it's one of the heaviest items in the whole ration pack (unless you're unlucky enough to get a canned drink in the accessories pack). For breakfast, a combination of those biscuits and a fruit bar is more than enough to start out the day with, though it might differ between individuals.
Most of the accessories are things you can buy off the shelves so you are not missing out much. The main course, dessert, energy bars and biscuits are those you can't buy off the shelves.
The Pocari sweat powder, usually we just eat and pour water into our mouth since we don't have time to wash the bottle. and the coco biscuit, we just eat it with water because it is really hard... and lastly we avoid fruit bar until the last day of our outfield ...
Love this so much! Very wholesome and relaxing video for a review of SAF rations. Honestly, I think we are very lucky considering I’ve seen a few other reviews of rations from other countries with horrible ratings hahaha.
Thank you very much, I'm happy you enjoyed the video. Yes I can definitely say there are much worse rations out there. I enjoyed trying this one. I have found the shared experiences of individuals, like yourself who were issued this ration, very interesting. All the best :-)
favourite way to eat the biscuits, open the biscuits from one corner, and fill the packet with plain water, just about 3/4 full. loved it during my time! we used to call it chocolate cake for cocoa
We never bother to make hot drinks with the Milo or coffee packs most of the time since it’s so hot. We just take the powder as it is and chase it with a swig of water.
During a 3 days 2 night combat exercises, i usually eat desserts and biscuits bars to go through. Rarely take the main meals because u will unlikely able to shit for few days due to the high energy food and need proper toilet to shit out
Hey, thanks for trying our rations. Somethings I’ve picked up over my conscription, the food heats up nicely if you leave it on a hot jeep, you can make a pudding out of the biscuits (some of my favourite even in civilian life.) just cut a small hole and fill the bag of biscuits with water, once it rehydrates it becomes sweet, slightly milky and in my opinion, very textually satisfying. Some of us chew the drink powder with a little water. And we all make the same joke about the apricot bar: it is an intestinal cleanse. One bar and your bowels will be cleaner than it’s ever been.
That’s very interesting to know. Thanks for sharing your experience and tips on how to eat it. I’ll definitely try it this way the next time I get one of this rations. Thanks for watching and have a great weekend 😊🇸🇬☀️
Great video! Served my nation but not in the military side, this gave me an insight of what I would’ve been eating if I was drafted into the military side! All the best for your upcoming videos!!!
And I think it’s brilliant that you reviewed Singapore military ration. Majority of your viewers here will be Males specifically because of our conscription for all males so it’s a lot of bad (some good) memories of our time in the military, no matter the age.
I have been overwhelmed (in a good way) with all the comments from ex- and currently serving members of the SAF. It's been great to hear from people and I'm happy the video has brought back memories (hopefully more good than bad). Have a great evening :-)
@@GreeklishOutdoors not this weekend unfortunately I was away at Ambleside with York scooter club last weekend I fear that her who must be obeyed might kill me if I push it too much ☠🤣🤣
While 20 degrees is considerably hot for many, typically the temperatures experienced by a lancheowpeng would be closer to 35 to 40 degrees. Excellent video!
Thank you very much 😊👍🏼Yes I think I made an error with the temperature comparison. 35-40 degrees is very hot. That is definitely only summer temperatures here in Greece. Have a great day 😊👍🏼
What a coincidence, that dessert you had (Sweet pumpkin with barley and nata) was my all-time favourite meal to have. I remember collecting a bunch of those from around my platoon and eating multiple per day
fantastic video, the choco biscuits , fun fact we usually put water in the biscuits package to make a chocolate brownie thing , you should try it for fun sometime if you ever get the chance
Oh wow, this definitely brings back alot of memories!! I'm sending a thumbs up your way and a comment to boost your engagement rate! Hopefully that will contribute to your 60 + 15 Euro. You've definitely put in a lot of effort to creating this video and i appreciate it! Keep up the good work! 👍🏼
Hi, (1) 20 Deg Celcius is a temperature we in Singapore would beg for. Nice and cooling ! :) (2) For the cocoa/plain biscuits of 5 pieces, you can snip away the top portion of the wrapper. Add water. Let it seep for a few seconds. Drain out the water. Then, you will have an improvised "cake". It tastes good and will less likely cause constipation out in the hot fields.
Hello 👋🏼 Yes I think I got my temperatures wrong 😬 Thanks very much for the suggestion. If I get hold of another ration from Singapore I’ll definitely try that out. All the best 😊👍🏼☀️🇸🇬
Fair review. I was in the Singapore army 20+ years ago. Even then i find the ration packs were quite tasty. Maybe only the white rice pack I wasn't too fond of. Everything must have been much tastier now. Poccari sweat was a life saver. I think that's how it got me to become a fervent customer. I swear by that brand whenever i need a good isotonic replenishment drink.
Thanks very much. That’s interesting to hear. Yes the Poccari sweat was amazing. Unfortunately you can’t get it here in Greece (I had to buy it from a company abroad). All the best 😊👍🏼
Fun Fact: Milo Is Not Only Used For Military Rations, You Can Find Them In Hawker Centers Around Singapore. Can Order Hot Or Cold If U Want. Some Restaurants Sell Milo Too. ( In Singapore)
During my time we were issue can food as combat ration, it is only close to my ROD or ORD we were issue with the combat ration you are trying. Personally i would preferred the can food over the packed combation ration.
Pro tip if you are armoured vehicle crew, put the main dish on the engine to heat it up if the vehicle is stationary. My favourite is the chicken frank.
Back when I was serving, my platoon was always given boxes of different ration packs for us to choose from. Because I dont want to take a shit in the field, what I would do is swap out all the main meals for the deserts and bring them out onto the field. As for pocari sweats, coffee or cereal sacchets, most of us would just dump the powder into our mouth followed by water
How do we eat Cocoa Biscuit? Open the pack and pour water. That is Cocoa Cake. Usually I don’t eat the ration pack, cos I will get stomachache whenever I ate them. I will just throw them away.
Not sure if they still serve tomato pasta with hotdogs anymore. That was the favorite for everyone back then( which is 20 yrs ago). But i guess now they have improved on the taste so any ration you get is fine.
If you have the chance to try the chocolate biscuit again, a ‘pro’ tip we developed along the way to make it tastier. Make a small hole in the bag, pout some plain water in. Give it some time to soak up the water. open up and consume. Viola! you have yourself almost a chocolate sponge cake out in the field. At least its more palatable compare to its original state. Things you experiment out in the field when the going gets tough 🥳
I hated the packs. They're purposely created to facilitate bowel movement, but dropping your pants in the equator is a siren call for the nearest brigade of mosquitoes.
milo (pronounced mai-low) is the unofficial hot chocolate drink in singapore & malaysia. thanks for bringing back our memories of the singapore ration pack!
Yes we do eat the Desert pack for breakfast. During field camp I usually ate that with one of the biscuit packs for breakfast. Not too bad. Anyway, great video, though I do wish you had managed to get one of the more coveted ration packs. Some of the other flavors were, at least in my opinion, much better.
Thanks for confirming that 😊👍🏼 Cheers that’s good to hear. Yes I’d definitely like to try some of the menus. Hopefully I can get a full ration and a little cheaper next time 😊 All the best 🇸🇬👍🏼
Best from my experience would be chicken dumpling, kind of tastes of ba zhang which basically is a local sticky rice dumpling. Desserts are generally good, nata de coco being one of the best. Biscuits can turn into a military "cake" with some water in a pan. Fruit bars encourage bowel movement which can be good/bad depending on if you need to go or would rather not poop in the wilderness
The chicken dumpling meal sounds good 👍🏼 Thanks for sharing your experience on the rations. I’ll definitely have to try make the military cake the next time I get one of these rations. All the best 😊👍🏼🇸🇬
I prefer the desert packs. Watery and sweet and easy to eat. Especially at night, when it’s very cold in the early morning, it becomes a cold treat from the usually hot and humid weather. The main packs makes me wanna go to the toilet often and I try not to eat it if I can help it 😂 As for the biscuits (or dog biscuits as we sometimes call it), it’s really tasty and easy to eat though a bit dry, but I just take sips of water (we need to hydrate anyway) with it. Helps you with “gaining” constipation too (pros and cons depending which type of person you are 😂)
The dessert pack was good. I imagine it’s better cold. Thanks for sharing your experience. It is interesting to hear. Luckily I wasn’t effected with constipation after eating this ration 😂👍🏼 All the best 😊🇸🇬👍🏼
That’s interesting. Thanks for letting me know. I always have an issue with drinks powders being too sweet, so I always add a lot more water than they recommend. Have a great weekend 😊👍🏼
Fun fact: Milo originates from Australia! I didn’t know this myself being a Singaporean since it’s such a common drink in Singapore and only found out when I moved to Australia!
That is a very fantastic review of the Singapore Army Rations as it make me recalled back in my days in Basic Military Training as we tend to exchange the food ration packs especially Pasta flavour 😊 Good old days indeed when you are out in the field and good stuff of the Javanese Noodles !!
Oooh great find! Singapore is a country on my bucket list for visiting. Also I thought nata had to do with coconut, I have seen in Southeast Asia foodie RUclipss “nata de coco” which is a sort of coconut jelly? Anyway didn’t know of the definition you found! Also Milo 😍 Australian/Singaporean perfection I have like four tins of it that I found at a discount grocery store here in the northish US! (Milo is also the name of our corgi)
Thanks ☺️ Yes I’d like to visit Singapore too. I have a couple of old friends from there and it sounds amazing. The nata was tasty, but as I’d never seen it before I had to look it up. The Milo hot chocolate was so nice! 🤤 I’m not surprised you bought a lot of it 😁👍🏼 Oh cute little Milo 🐶 I’m sure they are good company for you. I’ve thought about getting a dog, but we are so busy with work, I’d feel bad leaving it alone for long periods. Anyway, have a great weekend my friend 😊👍🏼☀️
Another tip for your Milo , when serve cold top up big spoonful of Milo powder as topping, over here we called it Dinosaur Milo 😉. It’s a match made in heaven , considering our weather condition here as we only have 2 seasons Hot and Hotter ..
@CrossbredmiMiyang Thanks for the tip, I’ll have to try that out. Maybe for my Snack of the week videos 😁👍🏼 Yes I’m sure the constant heat is draining. I’m in Greece now and the long summers here are exhausting ☀️
Another way to consume Milo. Butter a piece of bread and add a generous sprinkle Milo on it. Fold it up in half and eat. Yummy. Alternative: use condensed milk instead of butter.
When i was serving my NS [ National Service ] in Singapore, we had canned sardines or chicken, canned baked beans, plain biscuits ( we called it dog biscuits for some reason ) but my favourite is the chocolate bar ... yeah baby, you heard that right ... delicious but i can't remember the brand though .. I am 53 now so can't remember what else we had for rations.
The milo pack look like Malaysia Version. Sg version is different from Malaysia's and of course different from Australia. Btw, milo is pronounced as "my-low".
@@GreeklishOutdoors Yes, they actually made quite a number of changes over the years on the main dishes, those that you had tried weren't available in my time. There wasn't any pocari sweat, instead we had lemon/peach tea, packet of instant noodle and etc.
in Singapore we get 23-28°c during Dec to early Jan when it rains for weeks. after that its 28-36°c it's hot and humid af even at night 32 on some nights . was serving my NS from 99-01 rations back then were 🤮 we use to sneak non issued instant noodles and canned food instead. 😂
Hey there , im one of the logistic sargeant who deal alot of saf rations . I have pallets worth of unwanted unused rations that will go to waste when expired …
Yup, that rice looks just as disgusting as I remember... As with all the rice dishes in general with our combat rations. The pastas and noodle items are often the safer options even though its pretty much the same kind of noodle and protein, just flavoured differently. I remember eating a lot of the fruit bars and biscuts as they were perfect for on the go.
If I had the choice I would always choose pasta/noodles too. Had some bad experiences with ration rice in the past. This one was fine though, but I get why people wouldn’t like it. Yes the fruit bars and biscuits were good 😊 Have a great weekend 😊🇸🇬👍🏼
i'm really glad singapore is constantly improving on their rations. when I was in the army, the flavours were horrendous. When I was training out in the field, I survived solely off the dessert packs (that my platoon didn't want) and accessory packs 😂. Added some water into the choco biscuit and let it soak for a bit and turn it into some kind of cake texture.
Good news that they have improved over the years. Sorry you had a rough experience with the older rations. The cake mixture sounds good 👍🏼 Thanks for sharing your experience 😊👍🏼🇸🇬
I doubt you know what is horrendous. Even the first MREs issued were pretty good especially compared to cookhouse food in those days where the cookhouse was ran by fellow conscripts and not outside caterers. Let's just say the noodles were dry but stick together more than those you see in the video. As for the veggies, you'd have to be careful not to break your tooths on the grains of sand due to the cooks not caring to wash them properly. The taste? Even the chicken wings tasted like cardboard. The combat rations were maggi mee, tin of diced pork or mutton for muslim, calberg chocolate. hardtag. And you don't get to choose coz that is the only option. Every out camp, it is the same combat ration. Oh ya, you get to choose I forgot, chicken, seafood or curry for the maggi mee and that is it.
@@GreeklishOutdoors Even during my reservist 7 to 12 years ago, the majority of us only ate the dry ration pack + the dessert pack. The 2 main meal packs were usually thrown away. It probably tasted better as you warmed up the wet rations before consumption. While they may have improved since, the wet rations usually have a strong smell that smells artificial or chemical. That smell goes away when the food is heated up. This excludes the dessert pack which is great even at room temperature.
You wouldn’t believe how much I got out of those fig bars, it was a life saver in getting alot of energy. Usually we would avoid the main meals and survive through the accessory packs and desserts, the main meals you could definitely smell and taste the preservatives, some of the meals even smelled like cat food. Once you moved on to unit life you’ll get better and sought after mains like carbonara noodles, some of us would ransack our store room to eat the ration and skip the cookhouse
I was from the armoured regiment and we used to toss them on top of the vehicle engine to warm them up whenever we had the chance. But most of the time we just ate them cold. Biscuits, candies and bars were like the “ currency “ in the field. Ppl who hate eating the main meal would trade for them in a heartbeat.
That's very interesting to hear. Thanks for sharing your experience. So many people have said they hated the main meals. I'm surprised there haven't been any changes. Have a great day ☀️👍🏼
well, in my earlier army days, we were still having canned food which is unfortunately limited in choice and also become an extra weight to carry. those biscuits used to be called dog tack biscuit and is generally disliked by many. however, i think they are kind of good especially when you do not have the time to sit down for a proper meal because those biscuits if you do eat all five of them can certainly last you for awhile. now it is much light weight with these foods and definitely more variety to choose. generally, it is biscuits and milo or coffee for breakfast and noodles or rice for lunch and dinner respectively. i normally skipped the desserts as well as the fig roll. not a fan of sweets.
That’s interesting to hear. Thanks for sharing your experience. It seems the rations have improved quite a bit over the years. That’s good to hear. All the best 😊👍🏼🇸🇬
Remembered there used to be this "duck rice" in SG combat ration menu that even stray dogs wouldn't eat when we tried feeding them that during our outfield exercise 😅
Its braised chicken rice actually. And yup it was the worse of the worse. We thought it was added on purpose so no one would find fault with the other mains.
You can soak biscuits in water to soften it. Prefer Chinese menu. Desert prefer red or green bean soup. We bring home freeze it. Like popsicles. The fruit bar is goo also with choc Milo is pronounced mylo. You can add ice , taste better cold, you can add the milo powder on top, we call this dinosaur.
Thanks very much for that. Very interesting to hear how others eat it, especially those who were actually issued it. I’ll definitely be trying a dinosaur 🦖😊👍🏼 All the best 😊👍🏼🇸🇬
Great review my man💪 i kinda missed my army days and eating those rations while out doing outfield training. You were asking if the dessert was more suited for breakfast, actually it depends on the individual soldiers. Most would probably have the biscuits with Milo or coffee for breakfast like me. I didnt see any Maggi instant noodles there.. that would be supper for us. Again, thanks for your time trying out our ration packs, you would have loved the Maggi instant noodles.. this you would have to hide at all cost.. other soldiers would steal it for themselves.. thats how popular it is outfield😬.

That’s very interesting. Thanks for the tips and sharing your experience with these rations. All the best 😊🇸🇬👍🏼
10:49 you're right about this. We treat that more as an outfield refreshment drinking it out of the bag to replenish fluid and energy.
Good to know. Thanks for sharing your experience 😊👍🏼🇸🇬
Nata in this case refers to Nata De Coco some sort of coconut jelly bits... which is common in canned fruit cocktails and often used in shaved ice dessert.
Thanks very much. It seems I got the definition mixed up 🤦🏻♂️ Ah that’s interesting. It was definitely tasty. All the best 😊👍🏼
Singaporean here, omg watching you eat the rations brings back so much memories. usually we just eat without heating it up, though heating it up would probably make it taste better.
Hello!👋🏼 I’m glad it brought back memories for you. Thanks for watching and have a great weekend 😊🇸🇬☀️
Combat rations during my time were mainly canned food. I remember we have a can of curry chicken, can of beans in tomato, some dog biscuits, a small chocolate bar, jam for the biscuits, i think lipton lemon tea, isotonic drink powder
Thanks, it nice to hear what the rations used to be like. Still sounds pretty good. All the best 😊🇸🇬👍🏼
@@GreeklishOutdoors My mother actually likes the biscuit. But the camp sentry knows our training schedule and would check our bags to confiscate the chocolates and biscuits when we booked out on Saturday
Reviewed like a true professional! A military ration professional. Thanks for the fun review! Makes me hungry :)
Thanks very much 😊👍🏼
Regarding those dessert packs, I was once on an extended cross country exercise in Australia where we didnt have enough water.
Used to just place them on top of the Landrover bonnet to get heated up ... Thanks for the interests in our combat rations!
Good idea 👍🏼 It was great to try one. All the best 😊🇸🇬👍🏼
When I was in the outfield, whenever we parked the vehicle somewhere, we usually would take the chance to put it on the engine area and heat it up.
Good idea 🇸🇬👍🏼😊 Thanks for sharing your experience
For powdered drinks, its usually a mouth of powder( not too much) and a bit of water then you mix it up in your mouth
I might try that next time. Thanks 👍🏼😊🇸🇬
This is the first time I see the actual ration and is heated
Usually we straight up eating with the package without heating them
It’s a habit for me to heat rations up. I would have liked to try the dessert cold though. Thanks for sharing your experience 😊🇸🇬👍🏼
We jokingly call the biscuits “dog biscuits” because they’re so hard and dry. We usually dip them into hot drinks to make them more palatable, almost like a cake if you do it right. My personal favorite flavor is the coco, then the butter flavored ones.
😁👍🏼 That’s a fun name for them. Good tip. All the best 😊🇸🇬👍🏼
Thanks very much for clarifying that 😊👍🏼 Great to hear your opinion on how you’d eat the ration. All the best 😊👍🏼🇸🇬
Most of the accessories are things you can buy off the shelves so you are not missing out much. The main course, dessert, energy bars and biscuits are those you can't buy off the shelves.
Ah ok thanks. I don’t feel like I’ve missed out too much now. Have a great day 😊👍🏼☀️
The dessert pack is best enjoyed cold and when it is, its very refreshing especially on a hot day out in the field. Cheers for the review.
Great tip, thanks very much, I’ll have to try that the next time I have one of these rations 😊🇸🇬👍🏼
The Pocari sweat powder, usually we just eat and pour water into our mouth since we don't have time to wash the bottle. and the coco biscuit, we just eat it with water because it is really hard... and lastly we avoid fruit bar until the last day of our outfield ...
Very interesting to hear your experience. Thanks very much. Have a great weekend 😊☀️🇸🇬
Great tip. Thanks for sharing. All the best 😊👍🏼🇸🇬
@@GreeklishOutdoors you can do that with the default flavour ones also, i call them wet cakes. they have a cake consistency after doing that
SAF combat rations are also formulated to prevent you from pooing which is (seemingly) for tactical efficiency
Interesting, thanks. Surely that would make you more and uncomfortable over time 😬💩 Have a great day 🇸🇬👍🏼
Nata is short for nata de coco, which is the white cubes that were in the dessert. It’s a coconut-based product
Thanks for clarifying that 😊👍🏼 All the best 🇸🇬😊
We never bother to make hot drinks with the Milo or coffee packs most of the time since it’s so hot. We just take the powder as it is and chase it with a swig of water.
Interesting to hear, thanks 😊👍🏼
20degrees would be a cold day in Singapore, we usually averages around 28 to 32 degrees during the day
Yes I made and error there. It’s more like here (Greece) in summer (but with more humidity). All the best 😊🇸🇬👍🏼
The drinks we don't usually put it in the bottle. Powder in your mouth and then drink the water, way more refreshing.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I’ll definitely have to try that the next time I get one of these rations. All the best 😊🇸🇬👍🏼
Singaporean here! 🇸🇬 Thanks for doing an army rations review on our country!
Hello 👋🏼 It was great to try one of your countries rations 🇸🇬 Thanks for watching and have a great day 😊👍🏼☀️
During a 3 days 2 night combat exercises, i usually eat desserts and biscuits bars to go through. Rarely take the main meals because u will unlikely able to shit for few days due to the high energy food and need proper toilet to shit out
That’s good to know. The problems of eating highly processed food 🤪 💩 All the best to you 😊👍🏼🇸🇬
Looks like you didn't burn your fingers this time. I also have those Singaporean main dishes on the shelf.
I thought it was very good. Different from many of the others I’ve tried. 😊👍🏼
Thanks for watching and have a great weekend 😊🇸🇬☀️
oh man the apricot bars were my favourite.. great video
Yes they are very tasty. Thanks very much 😊🙏🏼👍🏼 Have a great evening
im a soldier from the 2000s. the menu have changed a bit. it will be luxury to heat the food, we are often not allow or dun have time to do so.
Thanks for sharing your experience with the rations. Interesting that many soldiers from SAF don’t heat up the food. All the best 😊👍🏼🇸🇬
Great video! Served my nation but not in the military side, this gave me an insight of what I would’ve been eating if I was drafted into the military side! All the best for your upcoming videos!!!
Thanks very much. I’m glad you liked the video. Much appreciated and have a great day 😊👍🏼☀️
Hey mate we usually fill some water into the plastic packaging of the choco biscuit and let it soak for a bit and eat it like a biscuit pudding.
Sounds good 👍🏼 I’ll have to try that next time. Cheers mate 😊🇸🇬👍🏼
Glad I don't have to rely on ration packs at that price 😮
Love your vids mate 👏👏👏
Yeah me too. It’s bad enough reviewing two a month 🤪🥴 Thanks very much Steve. Have a great weekend. Are you out camping again? 😊👍🏼

Have a great day 😊👍🏼
@@GreeklishOutdoors you too! I'm looking at your other content now! Please keep doing what you do.

What a coincidence, that dessert you had (Sweet pumpkin with barley and nata) was my all-time favourite meal to have. I remember collecting a bunch of those from around my platoon and eating multiple per day
That’s nice to hear. I really enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing your experience. All the best 😊🇸🇬👍🏼
fantastic video, the choco biscuits , fun fact we usually put water in the biscuits package to make a chocolate brownie thing , you should try it for fun sometime if you ever get the chance
Thank you 🙏🏼😊 Yes I’ll definitely try that the next time I get hold of one of these rations. All the best 😊🇸🇬👍🏼

Thank you very much, that is very nice of you. I’m glad it brought back memories for you. Have a great day 😊🇸🇬👍🏼
Hi,
(1) 20 Deg Celcius is a temperature we in Singapore would beg for. Nice and cooling ! :)
(2) For the cocoa/plain biscuits of 5 pieces, you can snip away the top portion of the wrapper.
Coconut juice 🥥, the better, more natural isotonic alternative doesn't come in powder form, unfortunately.
Omg you're right. It's surprising that it's hardly changed in 20 plus years!
I guess you don't mess with perfection?! 😂
Fun Fact: Milo Is Not Only Used For Military Rations, You Can Find Them In Hawker Centers Around Singapore. Can Order Hot Or Cold If U Want. Some Restaurants Sell Milo Too. ( In Singapore)
Interesting, thanks 😊👍🏼
During my time we were issue can food as combat ration, it is only close to my ROD or ORD we were issue with the combat ration you are trying. Personally i would preferred the can food over the packed combation ration.
That’s interesting, thanks for sharing your experience. Have a great weekend 😊🇸🇬☀️
Pro tip if you are armoured vehicle crew, put the main dish on the engine to heat it up if the vehicle is stationary. My favourite is the chicken frank.
Great idea 😊👍🏼 Yeah the chicken frank was good 👍🏼 All the best 😊🇸🇬
Back when I was serving, my platoon was always given boxes of different ration packs for us to choose from. Because I dont want to take a shit in the field, what I would do is swap out all the main meals for the deserts and bring them out onto the field. As for pocari sweats, coffee or cereal sacchets, most of us would just dump the powder into our mouth followed by water
That’s interesting to hear. Thanks for sharing your experience. All the best 😊🇸🇬👍🏼
20 deg C would be considered almost wintery in Singapore. Not close to our daily temperature at all.
Yep thanks for that. I must have gotten my temperatures mixed up. All the best 🇸🇬👍🏼
How do we eat Cocoa Biscuit?
Open the pack and pour water.
That is Cocoa Cake.
Usually I don’t eat the ration pack, cos I will get stomachache whenever I ate them. I will just throw them away.
Thanks for sharing your experience. It’s a shame you have a bad reaction to them. All the best 😊🇸🇬👍🏼
the glutinous rice with chicken is a popular one.
Thanks for letting me know. All the best 👍🏼😊🇸🇬
Not sure if they still serve tomato pasta with hotdogs anymore. That was the favorite for everyone back then( which is 20 yrs ago). But i guess now they have improved on the taste so any ration you get is fine.
Thanks for sharing your experience. All the best 😊👍🏼🇸🇬
Lovely review, while we do have these ration available in my vocation... we sometimes opt for fresh bbq instead :)
Thanks very much 😊👍🏼 That’s good to hear. BBQ is always good. Have a great day 😊🇸🇬
I am from Singapore. There's also the maggi instant noodle pack which is part of the pack.
Thanks for letting me know 😊👍🏼 That would have been a nice addition 😊🇸🇬👍🏼
If you have the chance to try the chocolate biscuit again, a ‘pro’ tip we developed along the way to make it tastier. Make a small hole in the bag, pout some plain water in. Give it some time to soak up the water. open up and consume. Viola! you have yourself almost a chocolate sponge cake out in the field. At least its more palatable compare to its original state. Things you experiment out in the field when the going gets tough 🥳
Thanks very much. That’s very cool. I’ll definitely try it the next time I get hold of one of these rations. All the best 😊👍🏼🇸🇬
I hated the packs. They're purposely created to facilitate bowel movement, but dropping your pants in the equator is a siren call for the nearest brigade of mosquitoes.
😂😂💩 🦟 ooh yes I can relate! There are so many here in Greece where I live
Really? I thought they were made to constipate us LOL. I managed to hold it for a week until I got back to camp.
😁💩👍🏼
Add water to the biscuit, it becomes a sponge cake
Great tip, many thanks 😊👍🏼
It becomes soggy biscuit
@fluffers3793 Easier to get down though 😊👍🏼
We use that soggy biscuits to jam our buttholes so we don't need to shit outfield lolx.

thanks for bringing back our memories of the singapore ration pack!
Thanks. I’m glad I brought back good memories for you. Have a great week 😊🇸🇬👍🏼
Always traded the choc hardtack biscuit for the light coloured plain one with my squad mates. Anyone did the same?
The 3 in 1 chocolate drink is pronounced "my - low"
Thanks. I’ll remember that next time 😊👍🏼 All the best 😊🇸🇬
Im A Singaporean, Thanks For Trying Our Military Rations!!!!!!!
It was great to try one of your rations. Thanks for watching and have a great day 😊🇸🇬👍🏼
I prefer the desert packs.
Luckily I wasn’t effected with constipation after eating this ration 😂👍🏼 All the best 😊🇸🇬👍🏼
havent had these in over 10 years.... but like you said, they arent as bad as they look. tasted pretty good when youre out in the field
I thought it was pretty good too. All the best 👍🏼🇸🇬😊
Around 2018~ish they had ice lemon tea from a brand called Fresh Up. Really good, but way too sweet.
That’s interesting. Thanks for letting me know. I always have an issue with drinks powders being too sweet, so I always add a lot more water than they recommend. Have a great weekend 😊👍🏼
thank you for trying the Singapore MRE! Would you consider the Japanese one too?
Yes I’d love to try a Japanese ration. Unfortunately I’ve never seen any available. If you know of any, please let me know. All the best 😊👍🏼☀️

@whatajoke8497 Sounds good. Thanks a lot 😊👍🏼
Yes the fruit bars and biscuits were good 😊 Have a great weekend 😊🇸🇬👍🏼
in Singapore anything under 30 degree Celsius is a cold day 😢
😊👍🏼☀️🥵
i'm really glad singapore is constantly improving on their rations. when I was in the army, the flavours were horrendous.
@@GreeklishOutdoors
Even during my reservist 7 to 12 years ago, the majority of us only ate the dry ration pack + the dessert pack.
Thanks for sharing your experience with these. That is very interesting to hear. All the best 😊🇸🇬👍🏼
Wow, throwing away the main meals seems to be a common thing for Singaporean soldiers. Thanks for sharing your story on these. Have a great day 😊🇸🇬👍🏼
You wouldn’t believe how much I got out of those fig bars, it was a life saver in getting alot of energy.
That’s interesting to know. Thanks for sharing your experience. I really enjoyed the fig bars. Have a great weekend 👍🏼😊🇸🇬
Pretty strange to hear Milo(my low) called milco. Is that how everyone calls it there?
It’s the first time I’ve ever seen it. I had to order it from abroad as it’s not sold here.😊👍🏼
I was from the armoured regiment and we used to toss them on top of the vehicle engine to warm them up whenever we had the chance. But most of the time we just ate them cold.
Biscuits, candies and bars were like the “ currency “ in the field. Ppl who hate eating the main meal would trade for them in a heartbeat.

well, in my earlier army days, we were still having canned food which is unfortunately limited in choice and also become an extra weight to carry. those biscuits used to be called dog tack biscuit and is generally disliked by many. however, i think they are kind of good especially when you do not have the time to sit down for a proper meal because those biscuits if you do eat all five of them can certainly last you for awhile. now it is much light weight with these foods and definitely more variety to choose. generally, it is biscuits and milo or coffee for breakfast and noodles or rice for lunch and dinner respectively. i normally skipped the desserts as well as the fig roll. not a fan of sweets.
Oh dear that doesn’t sound great 😬 🤪
Its braised chicken rice actually. And yup it was the worse of the worse. We thought it was added on purpose so no one would find fault with the other mains.
Wait were you with me? Ulu Sembawang Signaller training? We tried feeding the dogs they ran!
Try the poteh rice you wont forget the taste even the wild boar ignore them
Thanks for the warning. All the best 😊👍🏼☀️
You should try the spicy pack and the pasta if you happen to find it.
Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll keep a look out for it. Have a great weekend ☀️🇸🇬😊
You can soak biscuits in water to soften it. Prefer Chinese menu.
Desert prefer red or green bean soup. We bring home freeze it. Like popsicles.
The fruit bar is goo also with choc
Milo is pronounced mylo.
