hey man swiss infatnry LT here. this is a good review, we call the dehydrated food Grenpacks most of them are shit but beef stroganof is a banger. and the small snaks we get on the side we call swipfs . after eating them for 2 years if gives you a gag reflex but when hungary they are good.
Hey man, thanks for sharing your experience. I’m glad you liked the review. I can imagine the stroganoff being good. Interesting to hear how you react to them after a couple of years 😳 I was very happy to try everything. All the best and happy holidays/merry Christmas 🇨🇭😊👍🏼
Omg on the salami sandwich 🤣😂…..but wow what an interesting ration ! Tons of food and fantastic snacks….those drinks looked pretty darn good as well……thx for the review!☺️
Yeah that salami sandwich was a shocker. I should have read the label better, but it looked like a nice jam sandwich 😂🤦🏻♂️ It was good fun to try this ration. Thanks very much Jeri. Have a great weekend 🇨🇭😊👍🏼
These are literal unicorns! The Swiss heavily rely upon field kitchens, field rations are rarely seen let alone obtained by the outside world. I've only been able to get the biscuits and chocolate bar, both top notch.
That looked a good ration Jono (at least the chocolate was chocolate 🍫🤭 mate ) Interesting set up the Swiss 🇨🇭 military probably what the UK will eventually have to go to ! Have a great Christmas mate 🎄 Great review Simon 🤠👍
Cheers Simon. Yeah the chocolate was great…. That party sandwich though…😂🤪 It was definitely fun to try. Wishing you all the best for Christmas too mate. I hope you and the family have a great time. All the best 🎄🎅🏽🙏🏼
I live in the foothills of North Carolina. Plenty of black bears, coyotes, racoons, and possums. Woke up last week to a nice bear paw print on the back glass door lol. Never go out in the woods without something that can drop a bear.
Wow it’s sounds wild. Definitely need something to defend yourself with. Unfortunately the best I’m allowed to carry here in Greece (and only when I’m in the mountains), is an air gun, a knife and some fireworks. Because of that, I’ve got to keep my eyes open. Have a great day and all the best 😊👍🏼
Yeah the lunch pouch was odd, but the spare one was nice 😁 It was definitely fun to try. The kitties got a lot of treats at the end…. Including that party sandwich 😂 Cheers mate. Have a great weekend 🇨🇭👍🏼
It's funny when your eyes tell your brain that you're going to eat something sweet, and then it turns out to be salty, or vice versa. It puts your synapses to the test, when your tongue actually tastes something different than what your eyes have previously told your brain.
Yeah that is a strange feeling when you are expecting one taste and get another 🤪 I was expecting something nice and fruity and got something so salty 🤦🏻♂️ Have a great weekend mate 😊👍🏼
Since just about every Swiss does their time in the military and then in the reserves, it is very much a national institution, so feeding the troops well is in everyone’s interest
I was with you until i saw you use the swiss army tin opener backwards 😮 those are designed to "rock" forwards using the curve of the blade (the reverse of how a leatherman or Wenger opener works) Great review though, I'm hungry now!
supremely informative and entertaining video one of the best field ration sampling and explanation shows I’ve seen. However, the cat SpecOps attack was over and above! the tuxedo cat distracted, while the others sabotaged your vehicle…textbook operation.
@arthurbelmont1519 Thank you very much 😊🙏🏼 😂😂 Yes I was outnumbered and outgunned by the Spetscat unit. With no chance of air support, due to heavy cover, I could only hold on for so long. 😂 Cheers and Merry Christmas 🇨🇭🎅🏽😁
Its not really a choice of what you get sadly. Depends on what Barracs you get assigned to, some dont even have the chilli because the treck food is cheaper in bulk as I heard. Had the chilli only once on a exercise and then only treck food, especially in NCO school. The Curry packs where always the last ones left in the box when we would grab our food for the day or days. Only for the field tough or exercises.
Thanks for sharing your experience. It’s interesting to hear another point of view. The curry pack was definitely a weak link in an otherwise very good ration. The chilli is definitely the meal I’d want to receive. All the best! 😊🇨🇭👍🏼
hmm kinda odd mix there buddy ... in my time we used US , French and Italian MRI while abroad ... traded them a lot for Swedish or Danish MRI ... kinda miss those ^^ that stuff in the picture shown is indeed called zwipf , short for zwischenverpflegung (aka snacks ^^) the Swiss Army does not need a MRI inside Switzerland ... the kitchen goes where the food needs to be served , even in the field hence the Feldküche ;) the closest thing one could call a Swiss MRI are those damn Jonny tins aka Chilli con Carne that we would have to eat on top of a mountain if there was no road there for the kitchen ^^
Yes that’s what I was struggling with when researching the Swiss MREs. I suppose this is the closest thing to your own one, (without having a specific and organised MRE like in other countries). It was nice to try what the soldiers have access to, so I’m grateful for it all being ‘smuggled’ out to me. Thanks for sharing your experience. All the best 😊 🇨🇭👍🏼
@GreeklishOutdoors of course! I have some more knowledge to share since i'm here anyways; The salami sandwiche snacks are some of most desired among the troops, also one the most expensive per piece so as i was told those would disappear. The chocolate allthough pretty mid by normal standards is like 26 Rp. (Our version of cents) per bar but during service it's worth it's weight in gold. It's always funny to carry the key to room where we have several boxes of 48 bars each when the soldiers treat them like a treasure. The bagged meals you disliked are generally disliked and most of the time given as emergency rations, when there is no kitchen to supply a unit (which is rare, during my service so far we've rarely had to open the boxes). There's some good ones but generally noone wants them when they can eat Zwipf or a proper meal from us. The vegan vegetable spread thingy was added pretty recently, it was my first time seeing it in this years WK and i must say i'm a huge fan, i did all i could to feed it to as many soldiers as possible so they'd eat it and used it to cook vegetarian options and spice up regular cooking. Also, no military biscuits with the chili johnny is criminal !
@Sosig593 Wow that’s all very interesting stuff. It’s really nice to get the perspective of someone who’s actually issued the rations. Thinking back, those biscuits would have gone well with the chili! There’s definitely quite a few standout items amongst everything I tried. I was surprised how good the vegetable spread was. Interesting to hear that the salami sandwiches are desired so much. Thanks again for sharing all this information. Have a great weekend 😊👍🏼
Ok. Looks like quite a bit of food, but if it taste like. 💩. Nobody’s gonna eat it You had some good things in there. It looks like you were invaded by Fuzzball. Creatures. 🙀😾. I hope they don’t live out there by themselves. They didn’t look like they were very hungry.
Man If Id been fed those Id have stayed all 20. What a morale booster it is to get good chow. They need to add a accessories pack though with Coffee, A tea bag, several packs f sugar and creamers, matches, and a 5 pack of cigarettes.
Yes I agree, having good food can make all the difference in many situations. I think they do have the option for coffee, tea, sugar etc, I just wasn’t given those…. No smokes though…. A shot of absinthe would be nice 😁 All the best 🇨🇭😊👍🏼

@@GreeklishOutdoors just for infor the chiken curry is the worst thing. people will not eat all day than eat a chicken curry.
@404DAD Thanks. That’s good to know. I thought I might have had a bad batch. I’m glad the other meals are better. 👍🏼🇨🇭
Another great review 👏
Thanks very much mate 😊🙏🏼
Many thanks for this nice video - I liked how you present the Swiss Army Field Ration.

Another outstanding review, sir! I especially like how you explain the taste and compare to other more familiar foods.
Thank you very much my friend 😊🙏🏼 This was a really nice ration to try. All the best and happy holidays 😊👍🏼🇨🇭🎅🏽
I like that backpack it fits the Christmas 🎄 season
@@decarlosperry5111 😁👍🏼 Yeah the alpine camo is very Christmasy 🎅🏽
This looks like a pretty substantial ration. I wouldn’t be mad if I got this.

Thank you Thanos 😊🙏🏼 I hope you’re having a great weekend 🏔️ ❄️
Great video and review, well done ... only one beef, the flag behind you is not square! .... atb :-)
Thanks very much 😊👍🏼 Yes the square flag. I ordered this one online and didn’t realise until it arrived, by then it was too late 🤦🏻♂️ All best 😊🇨🇭👍🏼

Looks interesting so far. Lots of stuff.
Cheers Nick. Yes there was a good variety of food in this one. Have a great weekend 😊👍🏼

I’m not sure exactly on the logistics of how the Swiss Army get their food, but this definitely came off a Swiss Army base 🇨🇭 👍🏼

😂😂👍🏼👍🏼 🐨
Strange that there were no sachets of coffee or tea. No toilet paper too , come to think of it.
The soldiers do have access to all those things. Mine must have been missed as it was smuggled out 😊🇨🇭
Ah yes, all the things i get to throw in Zwipf boxes for my fellow soldiers for them to only eat the chocolate or return it with ammunition inside 😭
