People are educated and most of the workplaces follow gender equality here. So we don't have any misconceptions about other genders. Unlike other cities we don't feel like "Arre dekho ladki ja Rahi hai" that girl could be my sister, my friend or colleague. There could be some exceptions that depends on the area and its people how well educated they are. Educated does not mean which degree do you have. It also means what knowledge do you have about other genders.

Pune has been the silent epicenter of historic events no one talks about. Religiously, Culturally, Educationally and recently technologically. People won't take offense as long as you wear what you want and mind your own business. The adaptability and learning rates of the locals is next level. The only thing that concerns me is the growing number of road rages. Definitely don't want a Bengaluru-like situation here.

Pune is very very safe.... the fact that all the streets are well lit and we always have people constantly moving makes us feel secure. The people riding motorcycles and driving cars also contribute by keep their high beams ON. They do dazzle peoples eyes with white blinding light but it keeps the area safe and gives you a sense of security. Sometimes locals pick on non-Marathi speaking people and also beat them on the roads.... but that is understood as they are just protecting their area and future from outsiders who are coming and working here. There is a very different sets of traffic rules implemented here and if you want to survive in Pune you need to follow those. And if you do the mistake of letting them know that the traffic rule outside of Pune is a bit different... then boy oh boy!! what a grave mistake have you done!! Be prepared for the consequences. I have been here for almost 8 years and have fallen in love with this city. Proud of this place!!

I being a Bombay girl have gone out after 10:30-11 but the thing is people who are there on the street or shops that are 24/7 and these both things are rare but these people always give you judgemental stares like we're asking for it if we're roaming around at that time. Although it is safe on the formal reports or on paper but it does not feel safe. This can also come from my personal experience 'cause I come from Mumbai.

Thanks for making this video on this topic..
I have shifted to Pune in 2019 but due to COVID I hav stayed on n off in this city.. I was in Bangalore from 2015 to 2019.. I always felt Pune is safe this August wen I came back to Pune my Mom came along with me.. It was my Birthday on the 11th.. so we went out n it was around 12AM n my mom was scared n continuously insisted me to eat fast n book a vehicle.. I ensured her that its safe here in Pune n at any point of time, be it at anytime if I book a transport we will get it n they will leave us safely till our gates.. So there is nothing to worry.. Even yesterday on 15th she was surprised to see how safe it is for Women.. So yes it took time but after these scenarios plus referring to this video I hope she believes it too..

I've been living in Pune since 2018 and let me tell you, I've never felt this safe anywhere else. Whether it's daytime or night. Hopefully this never changes.

Happy to read nearly all the comments are positive about my hometown.
Pune has its 'own culture', festivals like nothing else in whole world, fast growing city in respect of technology and education. From my (Male) point of view women's feels more secure than any other city. Yes as some of Punekar mentioned some places are not that as safe in Pune cause there are not much development is created or it's in progress in those areas. Also it's always crowdy nearly at every place, so women's should have to be careful.
As shown in the video few places are not light up and because of that some women's may feel insecure. But being Punekar i can definitely say most places feel safe at night.
It is city of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and we all respect them not just in thoughts and in action too.

Pune is my hometown and I have lived here my whole life with saying that I fear going out as a female cause of the sexual harassment instances which happened with me regardless of day or night hence I don't support this statement "Pune is safe for women". I blame all men who make us women fell this way. Men regardless of being educated or not take it as a liberty to touch women without their permission. Its a shame even in 2024 we women don't feel safe.

I live in Pune. And I do believe that Pune is safe for women compared to other cities. But I think it's not just about safety at nighttime. Extra measures are taken to protect women for sure. But most of the times I or my friends have been followed or harassed is in broad daylight. On the bus, at a market place, while walking on the street these things have happened to me. So women, please don't let your guard down just because Bahar dhoop hai.
I do really commend the police in Pune. I did register a complaint on one instance at a market. My friend's relative was a female officer. One call to her and within 5 minutes, the police were at the scene and escorting the culprit. A complaint was immediately registered, the culprit was taught a good lesson and one constable made sure we get a rickshaw home safely.
A point mentioned in this video about safety dependent on the location you're at is also very valid. Not because the people incharge of safety are not active but I guess it's just the mentality and attitudes vary of people from different areas. Stay safe out there.

No country, no state, no city, no area can be completely safe or can guarantee you safety. Crime rates are different everywhere, but there is no feeling of safety anywhere. I have been living in Pune since few years and have travelled, walked down to lonely streets. Fortunately, I have never encountered any mishappenings. But still there is a scare in mind everytime. Sadly, we especially women are required today to carry safety equipments like pepper spray. I guess only having a common sense of respect, consent, chivalry can make some difference.

Pune is extremely safe. During teenage years at times we tend to get careless for sake of fun. It is to the credit of guys in Pune that I remember only good experiences inspite of being careless at times in visiting discos etc. Only in southern Germany did I come across more safety for woman compared to Pune. You can roam dressed in any manner there even at 2 or 3 am and no one will even look at you or ask u if u need any help. Ladies regularly go skinny dipping in natural lakes in summer and no one bats an eyelid. Expecting that in India is a bit of a stretch but just putting down what I observed.

I assure you Pune is one of the safest cities in India and as a Marathi girl I've never experienced any type of harassment or any such feelings that I should go home. Overthinking can also make you think that a particular place is unsafe. Public transport and the conductors are pretty educated and liberal. So don't worry girl

Maharashtra is not like Delhi....Since historical days, Maharashtra had strong Hindu sanatani influence thanks to Shivaji Maharaj whereas Delhi & northern states had strong Mughal (Muslim) influence. That is the reason there is so much openness and freedom for women in Maharashtra compared to places like Delhi.

As someone who was born in Pune, in my opinion I feel the safest with Marathi people. It's the ones who have migrated from other north indian states ( the cab riksha drivers/shopkeepers who are not Marathi) have made me feel unsafe. I was SAed by one such guy when I was a kid.
Other than that there are teenagers (coming from slums that do catcalling)
Otherwise it's a pretty safe place even in the bus.
I think Marathi people feel safe definitely because of the teachings of Shivaji Shahu Phule ingrained in us to respect women.
