    My father took me to see this play when I was 10 years old. Yes of course I cried at the end when he died. My father bought the album and he would sing he had a beautiful voice. Now at age 65 I try to sing like her and it brings me back to 10 years

      Wow that must have been wonderful to have a father that sang & took you to a play! My father was an artist. When I think of the things he showed me, it takes me back too. I took my son to plays when he was younger. Some comedies and classics like this one. We had a wonderful time. 🕊

    I love Mastrantonio's version of "Aldonza' here. Her acting choices are really strong. Even when she goes off the music, I don't really mind it because it's in favor of an emotional moment.

      She never goes "off the music" she acts perfectly. One of best the performances I have ever ever seen.

    I sat in that theatre on a trip to NY. Saturday matinee. It was the most mind-blowing production. Stunning performances that knocked you for six. But when BSM sang Impossible Dream, I swear real magic happened. Tears, what tears 😢

    What a treat! I remember reviews were a little tough on Mastranonio, but I quite enjoyed her here. And Stokes, never not amazing. Thank you for posting!

    BSM grew into the role. While he was a bit stiff in the early performances he took on the role well after several months. I saw this play many times. I thought David Atkinson was the best actor in this role. Richard Kiley, who created the role, was also outstanding. BSM clearly had the most outstanding singing voice. Aldonza? There was only one - Joan Diener. Sancho - the original - Irving Jacobson.

    Although I would happily call myself a musical theater junkie, I have to admit that I absolutely hate this show, including the song "Impossible Dream". Brian Stokes Mitchell sang it beautifully in this production--- the best I'd ever heard it sung ---but I still loath this show and these excerpts. absent "Impossible Dream", show up the real deficiencies of the score.

    • @derekheskellderek6037
      @derekheskellderek6037 4 года назад

      @Mattbrain First, I hate the score, especially the overly bombastic "The Impossible Dream". It's the show tune equivalent of that dreadful pop tune "My Way". Second, the script is pedestrian, even cloyingly sentimental. Third, this production was absolutely ghastly.

      To each his own. I've been making my living as a theatre actor since 1992 and also teach now, but I consider this show to be the greatest thing on stage.. even opera, Shakespeare, and anything else for the stage.. It is the reason I became an actor and to me, more moving than anything on this earth.

      @@green_acres_7240 I agree wholeheartedly! I've seen this show 3 times and I hope I get to see it that many more!
