He was a top notch tabla artiste, performed with Pandit Ravi Shankar for decades. He is the father of Zakir Hussain, currently on par with his father as an innovative tabla artiste.
My heart is saddened to hear of the loss of such a great musical master, of such a womderful ambassador of peace and love to the world. Guru Ravi....your music and your message of love will live on. Namaste
The Raga Guide: A Survey of 74 Hindustani Ragas states that "Several versions of raga Deshi are in vogue today. The most frequently heard type [has] both flat and natural Dha." Later, it states that "R, komal G, S, R, komal (lower) N, S" [is] a distinguishing phrase for concluding passages." Vocalists usually end their opening passage with this melodic phrase, and Ravi Shankar uses it in the beginning of this performance as well.
IT WILL MAKE SENSE TO NAME THE 4 RAGAS ON THE "DESCRIPTION". Just don't understand why the uploaders ignore the naming of ragas. The public will never get educated well otherwise.
Though you are young seem you are an expert ... I do not understand the difference . On the CD is written "desi", I listen it because I like! Furthermore we have: do re mi fa sol la si...
close your eyes and open your ears. shut your mouth( and i mean that in a nice way) and open your mind. then this music will make sense. you could analyze if you wanted but why ruin it?
