There is always gonna be another person ready to take over you even if you set yourself free from the first one unless you actually realize you need to step up your confidence. As to why people think it's cool: I suppose it's because, at the time, it was quite rare to see a powerful woman in a teen movie. Regina was definitely different compared to anything before, and one might consider her behaviour, albeit cruel, "badass"
