Just moved to port talbot and i wanna say it doesn't deserve the bad rep. These people are going through such a difficult time and all these job losses are having a stark impact on the entire community.
i am an Indian from Mumbai and an independent observer and shareholder.. And I say with all sincerity at heart, I feel for the job losses and the elders in the Talbot community. But trust the management and you will see a new plant ,as promised. It will help the new generation. Sorry the present employees will be severely inconvenience, but the future should be happy.

@@keithmarshall7715 - no, the hot air blast used in the Blast Furnace process is all part of the requirement to reduce the solid iron ore to molten iron via numerous chemical reactions within the furnace. The molten iron produced from the Blast Furnace then needs refined i.e. carbon content reduced, and other alloys added to produce what we call steel. The electric arc furnace (EAF) is a much more environmentally friendly method of producing steel by recycling and melting scrap steel using electric current, and hence the reason we see the traditional Blast Furnace method being phased out in the UK.
@@keithmarshall7715 yes, steel is basically refined iron with carbon content reduced by blasting oxygen at high pressure into the molten iron - the Basic Oxygen Steelmaking (BOS) process. Then depending upon what the steel will be used for different alloys will be added e.g. aluminium, tungsten, nickel etc. Sulphur is also removed at a certain stage before the steel is transferred to the continuous casting process where it is solidified and cut into slabs of 10m lengths.
Interesting CGI of the process. In the absence of a commentary, we presume the scrap charge is pre heated on the covered conveyor. Is this heat from the arc furnace fume extract or gas fired?
Is that just an artist's impression animation - or is it linked to plans / designs / specs / models of how the site will work? If it's an automated render of 'real' data, that's a good reason for it not to look like state-of-the-art movie CGI. How will the scrap be turning up - by road, rail, sea, canal?
Surely this is going to have an effect on the price of scrap in the UK? It'll just push the price of scrap higher then scrap thefts will just increase even higher/
We asked this very question to Antonia Grey of The British Metals Recycling Association (BMRA) in our latest episode of SteelCast (episode 32 live from The UK Metals Expo). Antonia said we're currently only exporting UK scrap because there is no domestic demand. Exporting it is expensive so Antonia doesn't expect for the price to increase. You can listen to that interview, and more, on our SteelCast RUclips playlist or on Spotify, Apple or wherever you get your podcasts.
Why does everyone care about Port Talbot, they didn't care when Llanwern closed in Newport. Jobs went, families missed out, businesses closed, the whole town went, and yet nobody down Port Talbot given single shit, so why should anyone care about what happens to Port Talbot, I clearly don't care my self. And they made their point clear that they didn't care, so as far as I see it, they had it coming, karma!
You are 100% correct, TATA want out of the UK, but the government called there bluff when they offered to help out with the £500million, from that TATA had to Try and make an effort, but they do want out of the UK though, and with the strikes the workers are doing is not helping at all.
Sadly I agree, I've been made redundant from Liberty Steel and experienced all the baffling business decisions there not to mention site with two EAFs sat mostly derelict and still not operating! There seems to be no appetite for the owners of these steel plants to operate any of them at a profit.
@@bigwideworld387..i am working for GFG, in Whyalla, sth Australia, at a steel mill, and green steel is what the government want, i feel it will do many out of jobs into the future. But wha spec is the arc steel going to be, and what if you want special alloys?

Can't new steel be only produced using gas blast

@@kennyweir7782 I just Googled it. B.O.F. IS used to create new steel E.A.F. is used to recycle scrap.

It’s the furnace flue gas from the arc, which helps in heat recovery and preheating the scrap

Thanks for watching. This video is based on engineer drawings illustrating the process. The steel scrap will arrive to our Port Talbot site via rail.

Is it Going to shutdown permanently 🤔
I'm really lookin forward to this! For those wondering, this is a Tenova-made 320-ton EAF
LLanelli had Electric Arc Frnaces ithe late 70's ...shame it had to close....
The price of scrap will be going up
Did you guys actually pay to have this video made ???
You will never be able to produce the high quality steel port talbot is making today with an Arc.
OK Maleficent
Disappointed that I did not see any electric arcs.
Was this cgi done 10 years ago?
It will never get built ,nice pr vid Tata want out of Uk .
I hope it doesn't! This town has so much potential if it doesn't!!

Port Talbot is Tata Steel, without Tata Steel there is no Port Talbot.
Then you clearly don't live here.
what the crap is this........cheapo cgi !!!
belive it or not mate, i think they may be using most of the money on the actuall furnace itself. Bonkers i know
Let's hope the quality of steel isn't as crap as this animation.
