Decommissioning Port Talbot’s Coke Ovens

  • The last ever coke to be made in the UK was ‘pushed’ from Tata Steel’s Morfa Coke Ovens in Port Talbot on 20 March 2024.
    Decommissioning work on the coke ovens battery and associated by-products plant started immediately and has been moving at some pace over the past two months, with work continuing through the rest of the year. And while 80% of the decommissioning work on the battery has been completed, there is still much to do on the by-products plant.
    Production Managers Cori Davies and Matthew Frey explain the work involved.
