- In this video we show you how-to program your Genie Wireless Keypad to Genie Intellicode garage door openers. This model GK-R wireless keypad is compatible with All Genie Intellicode openers manufactured since 1995.

For anyone painfully stuck here, it doesnt mention it in this video or in the manual but you can only take these reset and reprogram steps if the garage door is CLOSED.

Great video! I had ordered both the Genie Wireless Keypad and Genie Wall Console. The wall console directions were pretty straight forward, but the wireless keypad directions were a lot more fuzzy. The video cut through all that fuzziness and just gave the brass tacks and left out all the fluff from the written directions. It also helps watching the video being a visual learner. Thanks for taking the frustration out of it!

The manuals I found online and on Genie's website didn't work. What was a simple task turned into a nightmare. Thankfully I found this video and it was spot on about resetting the factory pin/re-programming!
I hate Genie now. I've had nothing but problems with my remotes and keypad.

And for those unclear about this: when you add doors 2 and/or 3, the first door automatically becomes number 1. In that if you have multiple doors, you need to hit your code, the up/down button and then 1, to open or close door number 1.
thx ...that wasn't clear in the video - in fact the guy said to either click number 2 or 3 ...which had me curious about door 1
One step is missing if you have an older opener. The LED needs to be red (shown when you press a button) to work with all openers. To switch from green to red, enter the passcode (default is 3, 5, 7, arrow key). Then hold the PROGRAM button until the LED switches from green to red. Excellent video!

Great video! But I think one small step is assumed. On a new unit you use the factory code and program key to set your new PIN. And that works without using the program button on the main power unit. Addition PIN changes will require that the PROGRAM button on the main power unit be activated before a PIN change.
Can you clarify? I had to factory reset after I changed my wifi provider. My master lift is programmed but I still can’t get the key pad to link up. I followed this video but it still not working, I’m thinking perhaps I’m missing something.

Good luck reaching Genie Tech Support by phone. Hold time was two hours. They did offer a call back option which I used. The call came early while I was working outside. Not Genie's fault but nonetheless frustrating. Now, I'll try the video.

As mentioned, the doors must be closed to program. I also found it helpful to do this in low light conditions, or you won't be able to properly see the keypad. Have a ladder on hand to be able to reach the programming button on the opener.

Good video... much better than manual! If your keypad stopped working (like mine did) and the batteries are OK, try taking it apart and cleaning the keypad and battery contacts. The unit is very well built as remotes go, and the problem is likely to be due to dirt or corrosion.
I recently changed the batteries in my wireless keypad and the keypad will not open or close my garage door
When I first placed new batteries in it when I pressed a button the backlight on the numbers flashed
I gave the batteries a try again earlier before I came to this thread and the backlights lit up solid but I don’t think I was able to get the garage door to run so I didn’t enter my code to try it
Maybe I need to let the batteries “charge” or something
(I DO NOT MEAN ”CHARGE” like you charge your iPhone battery but I mean let the keypad warm up to the motherboard
If that doesn’t work then I’ll check for dirt and corrosion

My keypad has worked I want door successfully for the last year. I added a new genie opener to the second door last week. Just follow the steps in this video so that I could use the same keypad to operate both doors. However, when I put in my pin both doors simultaneously go up or down. Is this supposed to happen or is there a way to do just one or the other door

If nothing is working for anyone. Make sure your opener is not locked. Took my hours to realize but there was a lock option on the wired opener on my wall and it was set to lock

Got it! Make sure your program led has gone to red! If it is still green it won't reprogram!

Thanks for your video. I just bought the same keypad but my old Genie model 12A has a Dip switch, is there any way I can make it work with a key pad? It would be very convenient to have the keypad installed outside.

I mounted one of these on my metal trim around my door, and it would not work. Found I had to move it off of the metal for it to work.

It is recommended but not necessary.

What if I want to control two doors and I want to open door number one? You say to hit the pin, up, then 2 or 3. What if it’s the primary door I want to open? Also, you say current pin then say pin when talking about the second door. I thought the second door got a different pin, this screwed me up several times
I followed your steps to set up multiple openers, but every time I type in the pin and which number opener, both doors open at the same time. How is that possible?
I watched all the videos and tried all the tricks and resets. Nothing worked. Finally when I was just going to give up I decided to try once more. I opened the cover, the battery cover popped off, there was a hissing sound, and a tiny blue genie popped out of the remote and flipped me off

Everything seems to operate as directed except... when using the keypad or openers, instead of opening or closing my garage door, the motor box just clicks?? The wall mount button opens and closes it without any issues though.
Great video, and I have a question. When entering my PIN, the LED flashes for the first two digits, but not for the remaining. Is this an indication the keypad is broken or letting me know the PIN is not valid I'm hoping to know before attempting to reset the PIN using the learn mode. - Thank you!
Every time you press a button the LED indicator should flash. If it is not flashing could be that the button isn't sensing the press, or possibly you may need a replacement.
I do acknowledge this is a clear & straightforward video. I spent the entire afternoon trying to program the second door. Simply didn’t work 🤷♀️

Does anyone know how to make the keypad or the remotes close the garage door?
I don't like having to enter in the pin number to close the door. Is there another way? Previously I had a Liftmaster keypad, and to close the door all you had to do was press the enter button. Of course, you had to enter in the pin + enter to open it.

About the keypad reset procedure. Can someone maliciously do the keypad reset procedure resulting in erased codes and therefore unable to open the garage door(s)?

no you cannot have two PINS, you can reset your PIN or you can use a temporary PIN

I thought I did something wrong when the door kept operating after I did the factory reset on the code. Turned it it's just that if you hit any key too soon after putting in the code any key will open it. I couldn't program the new code because the door kept opening. I just let it sit a minute then programmed the new code and it worked.
Just bought a new house and going to reset the keyless entry. If I reset the keyless entry does it effect the remote? Would I have to relearn the remote also?
As long as you are not clearing out the receiver memory. So if you have a learn code button, do not hold the learn code button in as that will reset the remote.

it’s the button that u can use to program remotes, keypads, etc. it is typically on genies black or a brownish yellow, and is located inside the light covers, on the back of the unit, or on the bottom or front of the unit.

@@tonysarmiento4629 the keypad has a "panic" feature built into it, you will (depending on the model) have either 30 seconds or 15 seconds that the lights on the keypad stays on after using. in that time frame any button will activate the door.

I did everything you explained on your video, the Genie learned the door opener, unfortunately I tried a new number but every number opens and closes the garage door. Even one digit number. So weird.
This is the panic feature of the keypad, as long as the back lights stay on you'll be able to press any button and any key will open the door, this will last from 15-30 seconds. once all lights are off, you can fully reenter the pin
These genie external door openers are terrible! The button response is not good and too spongy, plus my units always lose their programming to the openers and I have to do the steps all over again. Very frustrating.
Hey so when i try to program the key pad, it does a few things that are not working. First hitting the program set button and then the cod and UP/DOWN Arrow keys do nothing. As in the door does not move or even attempt to move. The next is that when the door is closed, i am able to use the wireless garage door opener. I enter the factory set passcode and then the UP/DOWN Arrows and the door opens. However if i wait the required time and do the exact same thing to try and close it, nothing happens. Help please.
Hi Jay - It could be that you have an older version of the keypad, if you are re-programming an existing keypad, you will need to follow the clearing instructions, and then start completely over, please clarify if this keypad is new, and what model number you are programming it to. Thank you!
What if I don't know the factory default code? I need to program a new code without the old code. How?

How do I program a Genie remote from another remote? Button built into car works but I lost the handheld remote. GBO is on 2nd home several hrs away so I can't access actual opener but need to send a remote to repair person.
Hi Sarah - This isn't possible, the remotes program to the garage door opener motorhead. If there isn't an existing remote, you would need to purchase one and program it to the garage door openers motorhead.
my backlight does not come on for resetting the keypad even after installing new batteries.. I wonder why?
I cant get this to work on my silentmax 1000 series. When i hold the programming button it only light up blue and does not start flashing purple when i release it.

Nothing :) There is a panic feature built in the keypad, designed if you forgot something and need to re-enter the garage quickly. Just wait for the lights behind keys 3,5,8 to go out, and enter the pin (full pin) and you should be good to go!
Have tried repeatedly and can’t get past the 357- up down. (Before attempting setting my own code. ) The keypad just fast flashes every time and door never opens. This is the second time this keypad has stopped working for opening my two garage doors…
I have a Chamberlain gate opener with no learn code, but uses dip switches. I tried the virtual dip switch programming approach, but not successful. Would a 2000 year model be ID# 32 and will this remote work or do I need to different universal remote or one specifically made for Chamberlain gate openers. I had a liner universal remote that worked, but was not waterproof.
This keypad, will only work on Genie garage door openers. Did you purchase the Genie Unviersal Keypad?

No - you will need to use the same PIN and control it with the number the door is. You can add a temporary PIN, but as soon as the primary PIN is used it will be cleared and no longer usable.
I have a genie remote in my car that operates the garage door fine. If I install the wireless keypad outside on wall, will my remote still work in car??
