He's exactly how you imagine him to be in the books. They had no business whatsoever casting Tom Cruise in the movies. Nothing about his performance even remotely hinted at what most of us picture Jack Reacher to be. 🙄
It was the little details like these that really made the show stand out. They didn't get in the way of the story, but helped know the characters and break the intensity.

Hopefully they don't feel compelled to produce every book. Some of them are pretty weak. And they should skip the part of the series where he owns a house and almost settles down, or re-write that to better deal with the continuity. Feels like Lee Child wanted to show off his knowledge of NYC area, more than make a good story. And like the flashbacks to mom and childhood, they should have some of the shorts that came after the series sprinkled in to keep up pacing. And definitely skip the one with the nuclear bombs. I remember figuring that one out in the first few references to davy crockett, so for Reacher not getting it made him excessively selectively dumb, to keep the book going. Most of the others you know who's good and who's bad, and Reacher knows, but needs to solve how to "win", and how to dismantle the entire organization, rather than an assassination of the one "bad person". And twists like the son being the ringleader, when he looked more like a stooge most of the time. Rather than a military guy having never heard of one of the most famous weapons in the history of the world. The davy crockett. The only man-launched nuke ever made. Though I guess one could argue he would know it as the M28 or M29, but certainly would have heard of the davy crockett name it was given. Hopefully someone is sketching out the entire book series as how it could relate to shows, and not just doing a 1:1 season to book until out of books. No reason they couldn't do most of the books, then go into off-book productions. But it will never last until then if they don't come up with a plan.
Alan Ritchson had to really reign in his comedy chops for this. Anyone who's seen even 5 minutes of Blue Mountain State knows how outrageously hilarious he is.
I’ve been addicted to Lee Childs books on jack reacher forever. Alan Ritchson is so much closer to the exact character it’s great. Not disrespecting Tom Cruise who is an awesome actor. Thank you thank you thank you please keep adapting the books. ❤
I've read all of the books and have been patiently waiting for the gods of media to do justice to Jack Reacher. I think TC had the 'quiet menace' vibe down pat, but he wasn't physically imposing like the character is supposed to be. Ritchson captured it perfectly - even the deadeye glare is exactly how I pictured it would look! In the fight scenes, TC always looked close to being outmatched but Ritchson makes it look effortless, even when he is taking a beating (though that fight in the pool was a bit like jumping the shark to me). I can't wait for Season 2! If they really do one book per season, we're all gonna be real happy - there's 26 books out now and Lee Child doesn't appear to be slowing down just yet. ;)
That's quite a glowing report. Reckon I need to read at least one of the books. This Aussie liked TC, but AR had some more time on screen to add depth to the story. First movie was great, second movie was more of the same but the series was binge material.

You could argue that they are formulaic: drifter rolls (or walks) into town, befriends a local, gets embroiled in conflict, obliterates the opposition, moves on to the next - and while that's true, it's not the half of it. You can read them in any order, but once you start...well, they're hard to put down.
Why can't you just show more shows like this @PrimeVideo ? Pure entertainment, great stories, acting and pace with no forced politics or narratives to obscure the entertainment value. This is why the show is so highly rated, Please do more like this!
My favourite scene hands down is when Reacher and Paul Hubble get out of jail. Paul contemplates out loud how he's going to get home and Reacher's immediate answer is "I don't care". Hilarious! 😂
I paid no attention to this show until I watched an interview with Ritchson. He was so interesting, and funny, that I had to watch the show. Don't regret it one bit.
Few times does a show this well rounded come to us. I mean between Rosco, Reacher, and Finnlay there is such harmony, whether fighting, friending, or fumbling that everyone else is spice added to the recipe. This is like All in the Family, or Sanford and Son, or even Good Times just in a different time period. Great show....makes folks smile and that's entertainment...
Great examples you've chosen, I loved all of them and have fond memories of growing up watching those shows. What people seem to forget is that those shows were making fun of stereotypes, relentlessly - they wouldn't be appreciated or garner the great praise they've earned over the years if they were to debut in this day and age. Loved watching the series Reacher because they actually cast someone capable of bringing Reacher to life out of the books of the great Lee Child . The one criticism I have is that nobody puts a mark on Reacher in the books and our tv reacher is always getting hit in the series. Let’s get that one right for the third season and we have the perfect Reacher.

This series is so much better than the 2nd, great ensemble and fabulous script, the relationship between Finlay and Reacher worked brilliantly the two acted off each other so well with an intelligent storyline. Then of course the wee bit of romance and the addition of a dog, fabulous! 🥰🏴🇬🇧
I love this version of reacher cuz I was raised by guys like him. People who will do the right thing even if the world thinks he’s wrong. It’s why I love The Jack Reacher character in general. Gives people an idea of the type of men who live in our country that if pushed will stand and fight. And that brings me to another point people like who jack reacher depicts have big hearts and actually give afuck about people even if they are pretty hard and sometimes come off as assholes.
Respect for reacher ordering all the right things at southern a soul food diner. I'm from the deepest South and I've never seen poke greens at a restaurant! I've seen turnip, mustard,and of course collards and spinach, you have to do to yourself where I'm from which is the best way for all of the former.

I almost put it off but my girl really likes this type of show so she talked me into it when it came out, no regrets. On the bright side you won't have to wait as long as us! Coming this fall supposedly, last time I checked.
Alan knows how to appeal to everyone without being a queasily sentimental blow-hard. He strikes me as being strong on the inside and will find a good path in life helping folks out and of course delivering the necessary justice we all love on the small screen. TC was not the person anyone thought of as Reacher. I will admit TC has the acting ability to somehow make it slightly believable. Mission Impossible is a much better fit for TC.
This might be an unpopular opinion but i loved the Reacher-Finley's dynamic and the humor in first season. I felt the second season was not as great without Finley even if I love Reacher, they both played well on each other.
I haven't read the books yet still. I enjoyed Tom Cruise's Reacher character that way. But knowing the physical components of Reacher and after watching the Reacher series, im watching Jack Reacher on Netflix right now and he seems funny to me now 😂

I don't think you need to worry in this case. Lee Child, as one of the executive producers, is very involved and has said that Alan Ritchman "nailed it" when he auditioned for Reacher. AR loves this character and has put a tremendous amount of work into his portrayal of Reacher. I just saw that he's put on 35 pounds of pure muscle since Season 1 ended. He's a BEAST!

Ritchson is the perfect actor for this role. He executes the dry wit and humour so beautifully lol. I couldn’t imagine anyone else in that role….

I’m hoping these new Reacher bits are indicative of the new season being released soon
I'm afraid of how they'll mess up season 2. Typical streaming service gets a successful show then destroys it with agenda. I hope they don't screw with anything Alan Ritchson is part of, he's the GOAT. BMS, BMS!
I don't think you need to worry in this case. Lee Child, as one of the executive producers, is very involved and has said that Alan Ritchman "nailed it" when he auditioned for Reacher. AR loves this character and has put a tremendous amount of work into his portrayal of Reacher. I just saw that he's put on 35 pounds of pure muscle since Season 1 ended. He's a BEAST!
Saw him on an interview the other day...this guy is insanely jacked now..like Arnold in Conan jacked.
