On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
If you enjoy war thunder or Microsoft flight simulator 2020, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. You can fly all kinds of combat aircraft including the F-16, F-15, F-14, JF-17, Su-27, Mig-29, Mirage and the F-18 Hornet along with many other aircraft and helicopters like the Ka-50 and Mi-8.

Cool video dude. I doubt the SR-71 could exceed much more than Mach 2 at 20 000ft in reality. What are your thoughts GS?
I would like to see some kind of aim-54 phoenix engagement against the SR at 85k M3.2
@@mmtot high altitude much faster
Love the countermeasure systems of the SR-71, they basically work like:
1. Go faster
2. Go higher
3. If that doesn't work, repeat steps 1 and 2
The SR-71 actually had a pretty powerful ECM
#3 should me make a coarse correction😉
The official accounts included turning left or right

Same counter-measures package as on the de Havilland DH.98 Mosquito!
Sorry to inform you, we forgot to load the camera film in the blackbird. You’re going to have to fly the mission again.
The Colonel climbing into the Cockpit would never allow that to happen... people may make jokes about Chair Force today. But the Colonels and possibly Majors who flew Blackbirds would have been beating peoples asses back then had that ever happened... lol

Brings back a treasured memory from the lates 80’s when I actually saw an SR71 taking off from RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk. A truly awesome sight that I will never forget. I also got to see an A12 up close when I visited the USS Intrepid in New York few years ago.
Still the Most Beautiful Plane to ever Fly! This from a Navy Veteran.
In the mid 2000's I saw one flying over my house. I tried to take a picture of it with my phone but it didn't show up on camera, which I thought was quite funny considering it's a stealth aircraft.
@@Guitarplayer22222 The SR-71 is indeed consider of being design as an stealth aircraft, it just not stealth enough - about 10 square metres of RCS. It's a good number back in 1960s, but still not good enough to make it a real stealth aircraft.
Whatever, if there's an aircraft which can be both super(even hyper)sonic and stealth... It will definitely be a totally nightmare to every existing air defense systems in the world.
@@Guitarplayer22222 they retired them before the mid 2000s if I'm not mistaken. What you saw wasn't a blackbird
As a kid in the late 80's/early 90's, the two coolest things at the airshows I went to were the F-14 and the SR-71. The Blackbird just looked terrifying, despite not carrying offensive weapons.
YF-12A has entered the chat
I was about 10 years old around 1985 playing outside on the playground at Sunnymead elementary and I heard the low hum of the ramjets on a turn and final descent into March AFB right before the weekend. Turns out my parent took me to the air show that weekend and I lost my mind because saw it land just days before. So beautiful almost silent cutting overhead landing I’ll never forget that. 😭
GS' next mission: Recon the moon to find that base Marvin The Martian built to blow up the Earth. Ya know...because we obstruct his view of Venus.
Ok, now I'm starting to question the reality simulation of DCS. I don't think you can get an SR-71 to Mach 3.1 in the dense atmosphere of 20,000 let alone handle the dynamic pressure and temperatures the friction would develop.
Those Mach numbers were only attainable up high in rarified thin air.
Awesome. Kelly Johnson and the team at Skunkworks were once in a lifetime.
This is an absolute gorgeous homage to this plane.
John Gillespie Mcgee Jr is the author of this brilliant, stunning poem titled “High Flight”. Mcgee was an 18 year old Anglo American who joined the Royal Canadian Air Force during the early days of WW2. After earning his wings he was assigned to the Royal Air Force. He was killed in an RAF training accident shortly after posting this poem to his parents. Beginning in the 1960s, “High Flight” was used to sign off TV stations (at 12:00 Midnight) in the Metro Detroit Area. @@bigpebble I thought it was 80 minimum
During aerial reconnaissance missions, the SR-71 operated at Mach 3.2 and 85,000 feet to allow it to outrace threats
Just to give you a chuckle, all aircraft have limitations, and on the SR the Vlo speed- the speed limit for dropping the gear, is 300 knots. An SR pilot, was cruising at Mach 3, very high up, he needed to come down. His IAS was less than 300, sio he dropped the gear at Mach 3.....
Oh man.. that was oddly peaceful, and honestly, I loved it. WOW!
That Blackbird was almost halfway to getting Astronaut wings.
Crazy thing is the stories I have heard from pilots is they out ran the Sam's that were shot at them. They say top speed is 3.4 but true top speed is still classified.
Holy shit, the SR-71's doin some Darkstar moves in the beginnning
It was more of Agent 47 than the Blackbird. No loss!
Beautiful moment at 3:30 ! Amazing !
The Blackbird is certainly one of the most exciting planes ever.
I spent many years working with this magnificent aircraft. Targeting has always been the Achilles Heel of any weapons system against the SR-71. For those not aware, SR-71 and U-2 pilots carry astronaut certifications because of the altitudes they can fly
The pilots had to pass the astronaut physical but they don't qualify for astronaut wings. That requires surpassing 264,000 ft. The maximum altitude of the SR-71 was ~88,000 ft. in sustained flight and the U2 max is about 75,000 ft.
That would be the x18 not the sr71.
That Blackbird aircraft is so stuffed full of superlatives... one of which is the second most advanced aeroplane to come out of the 1960s.
That was an epic shot!!!!!!! Thank you for this!!!!
It's really interesting to consider these somewhat of an experiment, comparing the technologies,
This plane is a engineering feat of technology for its time, once seen a documentary on it where the the pilot said they could see the missals coming up and pushed the throttle forward and it was see u later!
Hmmm... It appears that area denial has taken place, a win for the defenders
Here you need one S-500 or MiG-31
My fav machine of all time. SR71 ....
wich S300 system and wich type of missile is used. normaly the S300 should be able to intercept an SR71.
The greatest plane to ever fly
No one. Not even the Russians... would argue with you on that point.
Good video but a vertical climb in an SR-71 would be pointless due to how the engines worked at high speeds.
Ah yes, he climbed to spacefire altitude
Amazing before modern technology we created this masterpiece. My favorite aircraft I never got to see fly.
SA-10: I'm helping!
I find it hard to believe that the SR-71 engines would run over that range of altitude and Mach numbers...
Interesting video. Flight manual shows max q (ias) of 525 kts supersonic, at 20000 ft mach would be 1.09, max altitude 85000 feet.
MIG 31 and S300 vs SR 71.
This is really good..should do more videos on S400 vs Fighter jets...😍😍😍😍😍😍
Wasn’t the blackbird supposed to operate at 70,000ft to minimise the risk of it being shot down?
Something like that yes, I Believe it’s record for level flight was 85000 feet
@@GrowlingSidewinder Jesus I guess I was thinking of the U2 thanks!
Near Sochi you say...What...CIA wanted to watch F1???
I like the vid. Interesting experiment. I wonder if the blackbird could just outrun the missiles if it was flying a more normal (for it) flight.
Please do SR-71 vs A-10….that would be funny/interesting….or possibly just ridiculous.
I don't get it...
The missiles had plenty of energy left, was past mach 3, why they all exploded?
Lost track? Battery depleted? Some kind of limitation in DCS?
All missiles have a timer that will destroy the missile after a certain time to prevent damages on the ground.
.Αt this altitude ... it is harmless..everything that will be launched will be demolished,at this altitude ... there are also the S-400
what is that song called at 3:05?
Does the SR71 have maneuvering rockets on wing tips and forend and aft, and if not how does it maneuver at 100,000 ft and above??
So the solution is an area weapon i.e. tactical nuclear missile
What is the name of the piano piece during the tack view de brief
Lets see mig31+rockets vs sr71 on crossing courses, top high
and then he flew to the moon
Wow, I was positive the Blackbird would be hit multiple times...
Did the SR-71 ever reach above 100kft in the real world?
I wonder how they modeled it's high altitude capability.

@@GrowlingSidewinder : Amazing feat either way.
Ever heard of the A-12? Even faster than the SR-71. And the X-15 holds an unofficial record of mach 6.7
The A-12 isn't faster than the SR-71. The top speed of both is limited by the compressor inlet temperature, with the same limit of 427 C. At the coldest possible ambient temperatures at the stratosphere this is reached at Mach 3.6. On more normal ambient temperatures, it is reached at Mach 3.3.
Also the X-15 is recognized as the official maned aircraft speed record holder.
Which version of S-300 is in the game? There is litterally dozens of them.
ohhh yea baby this ones gonna be a good one
I know this is just for funsies and the models aren't perfect but it would be cool to repeat this under more realistic conditions. i.e. enter the area at 85,000 feet with a predetermined turn at a given distance that you can't turn before, and climb at the 500 or so feet/sec rate they say is mission typical. These planes weren't at all maneuverable, all they could do was climb and pin the throttle. for one thing, the g limit was only 3 g, so as soon as you pull up doing 9g...you ded. It would be fun to see how it would really (kinda) play out.
What altitude did it ultimately attain when it finally tipped over?
My monitor isnt good enough to read the tacview.
106 000 Feet I think
