Professional Bodyshop RUINS Classic Truck Hood. Can We Fix it? 1953 Chevy Kustom
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 7 мар 2024
- This is part 2 of sectioning the hood on our tasty Chicken Truck, the radical kustom 1953 Chevy pickup. Thanks to old collision damage and bad decisions, the project becomes much more complicated than anticipated and I end up having to splice two hoods together. Also, several critical mistakes are made. The hood becomes a warped mess because I do not weld it together properly, but we fix it anyways using cheap hand tools

“I’m not trying to make it perfect” …proceeds to make a perfect repair.
when he says a skim coat of filler he is talkin a spray thin coat of filler ha ha .
When my Dad built his '37 Chevy Ute hotrod, he welded the top section of the hood (originally two parts) into one. He also had to add reinforcements to the bottom side to keep it from flopping around. He did not have your skills, and had to use a bit of "product". Can confirm, it does weigh approximately 7000 lbs...
If you want to wave at every car you pass on the road without lifting a hand, Carters Warpy Wavy Auto Body is your man!
It's coming along nicely Kyle 👍👍
“High high high, hello… how are you?” You are a poet sir!
It's not easy, but I try!
I'll have to agree with Roger. Disappointingly insufficient cats. My facial expression at the end of the video matched exactly that of the ginger cat. My Disappointment was somewhat mollified by the outstanding metal whispering. Thanks Kyle!
You know what would improve the parts of the video where you're gesturing with your left hand, and holding the camera with your right? A chicken sock puppet. Maybe you could set it on fire? A flaming, smoldering chicken sock puppet would be awesome. Other than that, I'm enjoying this series a lot. Also, thanks for taking the time to talk about metal shrinkage and the importance of properly fitting patch panels--I needed to hear that.
Haha great idea! I will definitely incorporate that in the future!
The merchandising and spin-off animated franchise opportunities would be endless.
Good show
Holy hell Kyle I've never seen the shrinker work that well before
Can't wait to see that parked next to a regular unmodified truck.
I'll have to restore another truck to park along side it! Haha
You Can Do It! Haha. Your metal work is amazing. Haven't Missed a show. Thanks
O
Carter's Hairstyling and Mostly Perfect Metal Work is awesome!
@@BigBoxDodge2020 I didn’t know what his day job was. Thanks. 😧
The cobbled together Chicken Truck hood stand was awesome! Finally, you're putting out content that I can relate to.. not that metal shaping voodoo-witchcraft that none of us could do with a gun to our head. I'm glad to see you are starting to cater to us totally unskilled viewers. Your loyal viewer in a shed
"Totally unskilled viewers" says the guy building a balanced and blueprinted full-race Model T engine in his Shed.

That’s the grill I would choose! Excellent workmanship on all your videos.
I was clucking like crazy, and pecking up grain while this video was in progress. But it did teach me many lessons 😉
Wow Kyle, that totally changes the truck! It’s looking rakish. Dare I say sporty? Totally befitting that twin turbo Bugatti engine now!
That grill makes it look grumpy with an attitude , I like it. :)
Looks to be coming along nicely.
Thanks for the explanation on what happened with the weld. That hood came out great after your magic. From where I am at, it looks like it always belonged there. Nice job with the shrink disk. I am definitely looking forward to the next video. Thanks for taking the snow while we got the rain. Mighty nice of you. I used to work at an auto parts place and I used to clear the snow by piling it up in the bed so we could have traction for the rear wheels. It worked great until one of the geniuses that used to work with us parked it inside and flooded the store. They now work for the government so we are safe now. Anyhow that hood is awesome. Take care.
Man does she just keep looking better and better. Brilliant mind with a lot of influence.
Looking pretty cool now! Can't wait to see the front end completed with the new grille and headlights installed.
Best way to start a weekend. Kyle smashing some old bent metal. Keep up the good work 👏
Olds grill lookin' good! Maybe add some French touches to the chicken truck. Chicken Fricassee truck or Coq au Vin truck, could be tres chic! Cheers! 😎👍🐔🐓🥚🛻🏁🏁
Mockups keeps you in the game. When you are looking at such a big project, you can a lest see an end. Well sort of. thank you stay safe ALL
that hood is a lot of work fixing those seams after welding is what i need to learn the most you made those welds beautiful i like how it is coming out also like the ideas for the front end thank you for the videos
Amazing work as always Kyle (and a guest appearance of some new gloves).
Like the channel - since i screw up this kind of stuff, it is nice to learn how to get back out the self dug hole. In spite of your self criticism- this is is very helpful for wannabees and hobbyists
Your exit list sure has grown. CONGRATULATION , Kyle.
Thank you Robert!
Olds grill looks nice! Faring it out like the lip on the hood would be cool.
The word is fairing.
@@MckIdyll So what? You got the point.
That was a pretty good "terrible" video. The thing that saved it was the cleverly inserted cat content during the mind numbing welding scene. It kept me awake and semi alert so I didn't lose track of where we were headed. Thanks...
That grill looks pretty cool! The hood came out great with a new opportunity for some more lead work to fill the grind marks!!
You know your supposed to do that in one take ... rub your stomach ... etc. etc. etc. ... nice to see you wear decent gloves for a change ... now I don't have to send you a pair ... I'm lovin the grill from the Olds ... another cool video Kyle ... great job ...
Thanks Joe!
Blizzard Gloves.
Thanks again for sharing your work another master class on how to weld and most importantly how to fix the problems with warping.
Beef chicken pork and salmon...i think the cat's mind control regimen when you sleep is working 😁
Your skills never cease to amaze me! Thank you, Sir.
Another astounding learning experience, of course I am not out there doing anything with my new found knowledge. You sir, have found your niche, and in my opinion, are qualified as a professor in the proverbial College of Metalworking, if there is such of a thing. Once again, I laughed out loud several times as you stated exactly what I was thinking at the very moment, plus kitty cats.
I New the first time I saw that grill that I liked it. I have a decent amount of abilitie to visualize things. And you are doing a fantastic job.
Carter watching you walk your way through the problems and solutions is never a waist of time Brother . You have a gift and is a pleasure to watch your problem solving skills and is most impressive like the Mung removal the weld rehab and the eye you truly have for building old trucks and cars and restoring them to a renewed level of perfection. Keep being you Brother and keep sharing the great content .
The hood turned out quite nice Kyle! It is nice to see you building on you concepts. Looking forward to more! Thank you for sharing!!!
Hay brother, rusty, twisted metal, how beautiful.
Hi Kyle 🤝
I love your work and your attention to detail. I always look forward to your videos with great joy. I learned the bodybuilding trade on my own. Unfortunately I don't work in the field. I put my talent into keeping my cars in good condition and those of my family. I would like one thing. Explain what the disk does on the metal by making a drawing. I don't really understand English, I'm from the province of Quebec.
Thank you for your generosity and your sense of humor. You are amazing 🤩🏆🤝
Thank you. Wray Schelin on RUclips has some good videos on how the shrinking disk works
It's moving right along nicely, Kyle!
That looks terrific, Kyle!
Looking very good you definitely understand what metals do and how to correct it and make it do what you want
Pretty amazing work Kyle.
Great stuff, currently trying to repair my fenders and have been rewatching many of your videos. So this one has helped alot .
Every time I see what you can do to fix something that shouldn't be able to be fixed you amaze me! I can't believe the quality of your skills. I came across your videos a month or so ago, and I have been binge watching them. I've got a 65 Barracuda and I'm hoping to pick up enough from you to have it look acceptable. Your videos are really good, thank you for them!
The truck is really starting to look great. I know there is a longish road ahead, but the journey is well started. The snowstorm in Sask made the news all the way to Ontariario. The weather is so screwed up lately, one day I'm in the yard raking, the next I'm shovelling the same area, and a few days later a monsoon. So much for the snow and good ridance. I'm looking forward to the next segment. Just got a new mistress in the house, I had forgotten how entertaining kittens can be. Purrs like a model A ford.
Dang. It's lookin' baawk baaawk baaaaaaawwk!!!!! Wonderful work and can't wait for the next installment!
Hello again. Great job, er what a butcher. You could get Canada's butcher of the year award.
Seriously, I have picked up MANY good tips. Still have great taste in music.
Best Ray J.
I think you're on the right track with the olds grill. Consider the idea of using 55 Chev sedan eyebrows and tunneling the headlamps in.
Thanks! Really impressed by the way you stitched this together. I would still be scratching my head and wondering what to do.
Thanks John! There's a lot of head scratching that goes on off camera!
I love how you use a Drill for grinding. like a one you get at Canadian tire. That is so awesome.
Haha those $20 drills last a long time!
The explanation about the chicken was very informative. I say do the olds grill and the Buick headlights but strive to make it look not busy, but elegant. Remember the best custom isn't supposed to look custom, And I know you heard that before.
I like the olds grill.
Very cool look.
Nice work.
A beautiful job. Very professional and well crafted. I'm certainly impressed by your talents.
Using the hood peak from the Pontiac seems like the way to go. R&C mag used the peak from the side of a '53 Chev car fender on their '53 Chev project.
I know everyone has their level of acceptance of finished metal work but yours is so much higher than mine. Man, I would love it if I could achieve what you have done on that hood. The weld seam looks amazing from here! I have always wanted a shrinking disk and glad I waited because I would have got a cheaper 4" but hearing you talk about the 7 and how much it moves the metal makes me want to get the 7. Be excited and proud of that finish work, it look amazing. Keep it up!
Call me easily entertained, but I found this very interesting. Before you are ever near completion on the chicken 🐓 truck you will have worked on every centimeter of it. That is quite the accomplishment for a single individual. Much respect. 👍💯
I liked the title. Anyone working on vehicles are pointed here. Then they see the mess and are lost. hahaha Brother you do amazing work. While you were having fun I did something im sure you really love. I gave the house a deep cleaning including the shower. lol
I've got a 12 lb maul. Nothing can get the better of me.
The Old's grill would look nice.
You may have wrecked the hood, but I like the grill. Keep up the good work.
Fun with knee action suspension
Olds grill looks great!
Thanks for explaining how the shrinking disk works. The physics of that action intrigued me.
It's looking real good, i think you have the right idea with the grill and headlights..
So nice to see no mung on the inside of that hood . bloody Mung always all over everything . 😎👍
It's good to see you're keeping up you workout routine of moving various and sundry body panels in various odd positions and restricted spaces . You'll be out of shape in no time . Keep up the good work .
Kyle , like I always say, you have the masters hand 👍
The Olds grille is very cool lookin
Mon I'm digging the chicken truck build. It's cool to mock it up to get a visual of where your going with it.
You can even make your own GRILL if you find something that is chrome and looks untrusting for a grill. I've seen a Camreo bumper used as a grill.
When I had my 1968 Toyota I made a 1951 Buick grill fit I shorten it. That's when I had lots of grills I pulled out of a junk yard in the 80s other wise they were going to get crushed for scrap metal.
I would have done this differently. But it probably wouldn't look this good. Lol
fwiw my vote is a 'yes' on that grill. as a guy who grew up reading old mags i've seen that grill on a few cars but don't remember seeing it on a truck. no reason at all it wouldn't look as good. your ideas sound right to me and i look forward to seeing what you do about the bed. maybe dream truck-ish but less out there? love the kitty content. also, diggin the cop car/taxi caps on your daily.
your stealing my lines. Positive Attitude.....BIG HAMMER.....that is the way to do it.
That grill would look great. I hope you use it on the truck.
As I am learning as you are, I tried actually measuring some of my work to make each side concentric with the other. It didn’t work so well so save yourself the time and trouble 😮
Absolutely outstanding Gump! You are a genius! I'm so excited about this build!
Kyle in the hood..Amazing how this fully cobbled mess pops to attention and looks nice. The Olds grill looks great. The knee action suspension on the 1935 deluxe is interesting, My standard model had an I beam, simple.
Thanks. For some reason, all the 1935 Master's built in Canada had the knee action front end. In the USA the Master had a straight axle, and the Master Deluxe had the knee action
Thanks for another , Brother!
The Olds grille would look great
No jacket fire again, just great
What a new jacket .
I am very happy that you might try to put this beautiful Olds grill on the truck! I thought right away: That grill screams: "Use me, use me!"
It will take quite a lot making the truck and grill fit well. But it will be worth it. The Buick lights and bezels on the other hand would not fit in my opinion.
Thanks! Love the grill you rescued as well, very cool!!
Thanks Mark! Very kind of you to help keep the show on the air!
Great recovery on the hood seams. That grill looks cool and I'm sure it will turn out fine. Have you ever tried switching hands when welding to keep the weld direction the same from side to side? Not sure if it would make any difference or not on gauge material but maybe for body positioning. Your makeshift stand reminded me of my dad because he was a master bedframe angle iron recycler so thanks for that. Cheers for now.
Keep on keeping on! 😊
I'll try!
Am liking your thoughts on the Olds grille!
Awesome Kyle, love that grill. Peaked hood would blend nicely 👍
That grill looks cool. Love the art deco styling it suggests.
Take the beak and grill, push it back two full inches, weld the hell out of it, bottle the hater's tears.
Your patience is still a wonder to me, and I respect that. I am really enjoying the chicken truck, almost a fan of the beak! Too, I think the 1947 Oldsmobile grille really works, especially with the smaller bezels for the headlights. Cheers!
There was a lot of powerful good bodywork advice in this one. I hope I can use that advice on my '47 Fleetmaster. I've been thinking about sectioning the hood for 3 years now. What you do with sheet metal is amazing!
you were Captain Canoehead there for a second!
That Olds grill was definitely made for a Chicken Truck and "Keeps Your GM Vehicle All GM".
some "how to's" on junk pc's of metal would be AWESOME with stainless steel shrinker.
Check out Wray Schelin on RUclips. He has some great videos showing how the disk works
👍 nice panel beating techniques
Stop apologizing. You are a master at this. The hood shows us more of your final vision. And once again, thank you for the classical music at the end of this video. It's therapy for me in my shop
the more I see you use the shrinking disc , the more i want one I'd be interested in the 5inch disc if you want to let it go I chopped the top on my model A 3 inch's and it needs T L C especially after watching your amazing skills , thank you for sharing
Hood coming together nicely, Olds grille looks nice and certainly different if you go that way.
So my understanding is that I can get better welds by eating chicken and standing on one foot? Lol. Another awesome video Kyle! Thanks for sharing your journey with us.
Yes exactly!
I didn't even know chickens had fingers. Mmmmmm
Thanks to you I've cut a big hole in the floor pan of my 53 Packard. I should know by the end of Saturday if I need to bring it to you. 🙄
