But seriously, you make a good point about the advantage of duplicated notes. On my Gadgetina, I implemented a minimal subset of Wicki-Hayden, and the lack of duplicates really breaks the whole "isomorphic" aspect at the sides of the keyboard. If I ever build another one...
Your work with the Gadgetina will go down as the earliest, most insanest wicki-hayden stuff done years before anyone else ever had a clue xD But yeah, not having a wide enough gamut hurts a lot, even if you technically have each note represented in 12-tet, since hopping across the keyboard is, IMO, a non-starter. On my AXiS-49 mapped to wicki-hayden, I had a gamut of 14 notes (so like, Eb-G# in the circle of fifths), and found it was pretty much pointless to try to play jazz because the extensions inevitably fell off of the edges ='(
But on the guitar we get the advantage of having the same note available on different strings, which each have different overtones/ character. Comparing open strings to 7th fret equivalent is most obvious but it happens everywhere,
It was meant to be the future of piano, but there were technical, economical, and traditional hurdles that stalled its progress into the wider market. Piano manufacturers don't care about perfecting the Janko and revolutionizing the industry, they want to stay in the safety of the current market with no real risks, only focusing on their short-term profits.
@@Persun_McPersonson Yeah I also saw a video about pianos with a shorter key to key distance and it's the same situation. Just one man in the whole America makes this type of pianos on his own

I'm guessing it's possible, but I'm not really a janko guy so I can't say for sure. There are some things (like pentatonic/diatonic glissandi) that are definitely impossible to replicate from traditional keyboard layouts, but I'm often pleasantly surprised how well experience with a traditional keyboard translates to isomorphic keyboards.
@@JLMoriart thanks, John. I’m probably too set in my ways to learn something so radically different. I admire you that you can be adaptable and make it work. Sorry for the late reply! This project is still cooking, but definitely on the back burner. Sorry I haven't uploaded the janko version yet. Really, each overlay should be adjusted slightly for the measurements of the underlying keyboard, so I've put off uploading. The solution should be for me to recommend trying the open source program I wrote that could generate an overlay like this for you with your keyboard's measurements, but that program is barely usable. I'll share anyway though in case you're feeling adventurous: github.com/JLMoriart/OverKeys-Generator/releases/tag/OverKeysGenerator

Your problem with the layout and the repetition is what makes guitar such a pain in the ass to read, and why i want to learn piano haha so the janko might not be for me

Great! The ability to play the same chord is different positions is sth that guitar players have at their disposal.

I want to try janko keyboard but it is so rare.
is the 3d model available?
Wow this is might work well with electronic pianos to use really double notes etc. Maybe it’s future of piano 🤔

I’d like to see the Chopin Etude in 3rds on this. Is it even possible? How do you play chromatic thirds in one hand?

Hey John, where can I download the 3d model?

These piano keys are really cursed.

Haha nice.
Q: How do you get a janko player to stop playing?
A: Take away their row indicators
