- This video is for the purpose of helping others properly remove a stuck brake rotor off of a vehicle. I tried all the other tricks that people commonly used to remove a stuck brake rotor with no success. I finally purchased the correct tool (OTC HD brake drum/rotor puller part # 6980). What a world of difference. Minutes instead of hours. Shout out to Brian at BSG automotive for all his help. Check out his youtube page (FordTechMakuloco) for all sorts of help with Ford vehicles.
Thank you for posting this, i spent 3 hours today beating my rotor drum into submission and it won. Ordering a tool like that this week. Thanks again!!!!
The beatings have commenced for over an hour. Time to order the puller! Thanks for the vid!
Just to follow up, puller worked great! Rotors were off in 5 minutes.
Thanks for posting this. My truck sees Ohio salt every winter also. The OTC puller 6980 was on my wish list for some time. This video gave me the final incentive to purchase a puller. I ended up getting the Astro Pneumatic Tool 78830 as it can handle up to 14"D rotors. The Ford F-150 is 13.8"D, at least, for the 2015-2020. As you noted, the puller makes it much easier to get a rusted rotor off the hub. OTC does have a larger unit, 6979, but it's roughly 2.5 times the cost of the 6980.
Thanks Eric! Just experienced this exact situation on my Michigan driven 2007 F150. No way the rotors were coming off by beating on them. Luckily for me, a friend had a 1950's vintage version brake drum puller and we were able to pull them with relative ease.
Thanks to your video, I discovered that such a tool actually existed.
I watched this because I got a 2007 from a shady dealership in Florida - A Michigan truck that I already replaced the entire front suspension and brake system. Thanks.
god bless bro the only one with no ads 🙏🏽
4 lb sledgehammer with a baseball swing. Works every time
All I do is brakes, I have the same puller and Imhavent had to use it for a while now as I use the air hammer and a hammerhead bit. This removes 99% of the rotors, I live in southern Ontario Canada the rust belt of rust belts. Great vidio
Before the puller….or if like me, you didn’t buy the puller, try putting a 1/2” bolt through the caliper hole with a nut & washer against the caliper brkt. Use something between the bolt end and the rotor to prevent damage. This 2-3 times per side on loosened adjusters got it done for me.
Had I known, I would buy the puller every time!
WV truck in Ohio. 2017 though.
My rotor was rusted to the e brake shoes, so I stuck a small screwdriver behind it and popped it off by lightly tapping it. Felt it break free and the rotor came right off
That must have been extremely lucky.
Thanks! Great video.
Yeah I gotta get that puller. I have an Ohio driven F150 as well lol.
How did you get the splash guard off and out of the way? I could use a traditional three jaw puller if that flimsy looking piece of sheet metal is not in the way.
I was having the same issue but then I remembered the emergency breaks locks the rears. Just release the emergency brakes
I got to do this for a friend in a few hours an I can see it's gonna be a problem with that tool
Ohio trucks are jokes when it comes to trust i would know.
