Hi Kim! Your background is so green. I do not notice any slanting. I Know what damage roots of trees can cause, one drainage pipe of ours was broken, thank goodness it was not a main one. I have never thought of putting much mulch under the trees, but now I know that when I do, I will be thinking of leaving some space for water to seep through. Yes, it is wise to wait for your youngest to finish college. Moving is never easy, so I understand when you give yourself time. I wish you the best though. Happy gardening.☺☺🌲🌳🌴🌿🌻🌺❤
@@berinanaturethirstHello, Berina ! 🙋♀️ So glad to hear from you! Yes, aggressive tree roots are no joke! One reason I do a lot of planting in containers. 😎 Thanks for your encouragement regarding moving. 😊
I am from California, we do have gopher problems too. I tried many ways to scare them out of my property, but your neighbors may don’t care since they won’t grow any. So they breed in their grounds and look for the right time to make fresh holes in our property. Ok enough of my rants 😊 Here are some methods which worked for me. 1. I made my raised bed with 2 ft higher than the ground. If they go on the ground, I have 3/4 inch chicken wire underneath. 2. I frequently spray mint + castor oil around my garden to repel rodents away. 3. If you have drip irrigation with fertigation system, you can add castor oil in recommended amounts to repel them from the plants root system. This is very effective. 4. Final option is to pump CO2 into the fresh gopher holes for a high infestation. This is a last resort to avoid 90% of the problem for huge properties. Traps don’t work on acreages, I am against poisonous baits & pumping carbon monoxide to kill them.
Wow, a lot going on, Kim! Love that you won't kill the gophers, although it's strange that they've only turned up now! I'm not a fan of tree roots - they can lift footpaths from flat to 2'' cliffs that can throw me off my skateboard in a matter of weeks! It must be nice for you to get some cooler temps - extreme heat is no fun so I get why you want to move! Wow, 4 years on YT - quite an achievement! Cogratulations & I hope you continue for many, many more! :)
@@nottherealmccoy4955 Yes, nowadays, I try to be really careful when walking on sidewalks because they're so often jagged and uneven. Even dangerous for those of us not adventurous enough to ride skateboards! As to the gophers, it *is* strange they've never been a problem before now. Haven't figured that out, but I sure hope they move on soon!

Thanks for your ideas! I think I might try spraying mint & castor oil in the future! I sure wouldn't like that smell combination! 😂
