I ran mine without an air filter, with water and crap in the oil, on old gas, through tall weeds and everything and it still starts first pull. Same model. They're tough

My air filters always get drenched with oil, even a brand new one, and with freshly changed oil. Do I have too much oil? I know you don't turn your mower up so that the oil fouls up the gas, but if I change the blade, should I take the air filter off first? Does that have anything to do with it? Thanks
