I just remember blasting this as a kid and my mom thought the lyric was "break the bible break it up" and she thought you guys were satanic and said I couldn't listen anymore. LOL
decent take, but i guarantee if he was unable to play, or his playing wasn’t up to par, he would have been kicked out. respect to him because he still sounds great
Hardly stripped down when the two guitarists are still shredding on electric guitars. Granted no actual drums but yeah. All the trashy pop and RnB artists have stolen the themes from all the hair metal guys of the 80's expect they don't know how to shred and they need Auto tune and 50 writers to come up with a song about getting drunk and shaking your booty. I saw Def Leppard last year and they put on a killer rock show that proves they still have the talent and drive to take on mainstream music.
This is barely stripped down tho the only difference is a shaker instead of drums. Don’t get me wrong it’s great but the poor drummer is probably bored to death.
I was expecting an entirely acoustic version. I'm glad they blended the unplugged acoustic vibe with the electronic guitar and bass. It worked out well.
Bands today hardly ever sound like this even in the studio. Gone are the days of a band recording all together, and playing off each other. Now (more often than not), the drummer puts down his beat, then the bass, rhythm guitar, lead guitar, and vocals. It gets mixed up sometimes, but that's the general formula, and I think it takes a little away from the recordings. Like there's zero chance of a small mistake that works well,or even a bit of improvisation getting on the final recording.
These guys still sound amazing... Especially impressed with lead vocals since he's up their in age. When you listen to the old album cuts, keep in mind they never sounded like the album cut exactly live. Every band member still brings their A game and still has thir shit together. Amazing band.
In this world of digital wizardry, it's wonderful to see a real band do their stuff, live, with no trickery, and one only has one arm, in a live studio and still sound like the record!!! Respect!!!
I've long appreciated the way that Def Leppard harmonized on the chorus. Pyromania remains a favorite after all these years. One interesting thing I read about Rick is that he considers himself a better drummer now than before the accident that cost him his arm. His kit too is absolutely unique and fascinating to learn about. Great performance!
#1 for 87 consecutive days on the MTV top daily 10. We would run from the dinner table to watch it. I remember once MTV had a Def Leppard weekend! I had many, many VHS recordings of that weekend.
The very best ROCKERS in the world. If you don't believe it watch THIS! Always the best since the 80s. Seriously one of the best rock bands ever. HALL OF FAME ROCK!
Me and my wife saw them guys last year, finally got to see use,wow I was absolutely blown away buy the whole show, great guitarists great drummer and amazing vocals probably one the best live bands ever saw
I was there when the original guys put out their first album. The first in my school to own it and turn on others. 55 now and I thought I had outgrown this music. Then I saw Viv, Joe, Phil, Rick and Rick and went upstairs and pulled some cds. Yeah cds! Thank you boys! This rocked! Never better!
Hell yeah. They still have it. New bands would kill for a hook like that. See yall in Vegas for shows 64/65 this Labor day weekend!! Congratulations on joining the HOF.
Backing vocals during the chorus are just music to my ears! I can hear they have been cleaned up and tuned, but the voices are still the same after all the years... amazing : )
The reason is Rick needs a special drum set to accommodate his missing arm. He discussed that in the interview, it's basically all bolted on a platform when they tour and obviously that behemoth was not making it into the Howard studio
I think it's perfect, actually. Listen to the balance of the instruments, leaving plenty of gaps with the rest being virtually a Capella. More drums would crowd that beautiful space around it all.

@@defleppard Thank you for responding. That was crazy never expected that. I hope you guys will do more dates. I live in Indiana and would love to see you guys again. The last was in '83 MSA. I'm an old guy that is trying hard to hold on to my rock bands from my youth. Have a great one.
I think I was in 6th grade when Pyromania came out. In music class every kid had to bring in a album or tape. I only had Rick Springfield (that the Easter bunny got me - mom)... Someone played Def Leppard and EVERYONE in the 6th grade class knew who they were... I didn't have a clue. I went on to be a long time fan.
You're a year younger than me (I was born in '77) and I'm a huge fan of Def Leppard. High N' Dry is by far my favourite album of theirs, but even their poppiest stuff is great. They have a sound like no one else. Btw, I'm also a Korn fan ;-).
Only watched this for Vivian's brilliant melodic interpretation of Steve Clark's guitar outro part (knowing that it would be clearly audible in this mix.) He's definitely made it his own 🤘🤘 Love the way he builds it up on that last chorus.. then *BAM*
Ok heres the true story of how i discovered this band way way back.....was cruising with some of my buddies headed out to the fire trails along the Ausable river in oscoda michigan and one of my buddies comes out of this little convenance store with HIGH AND DRY...we never heard of this band he just bought it on a whim.....we break out the weed do a bunch of one hits put the tape in crank it up and mind you this was a kicking system loud and clear and all four of us were blown away!!!! and i am still a huge fan today at 54 years young.....thanks guys you still sound and look awesome
Philadelphia Spectrum. Oct. 13th, 1987. Short side of the "In the Round" stage. 3rd row. Tesla opened. Best show I've ever seen, and I've been to more than few.
I will never forget Rick Allen or Rick Savage. One of the highlights of my life involved them. I was the DJ at the 5 star hotel, The Sagamore in Diamond Point, NY on Lake George. This involves a golf cart, 2 security guards, The Brass Ring and a flood of fans whom had gathered in the basement bar who had already met Savage and spread the word that Def Leppard was at the ring. Rick Allen and myself were the last to leave the hotel as he was gracious enough to go to the club so I could get my wallet. We had all been throwing footballs out on the lawn. Rick and I walked for about a grand total of 3 minutes and we came upon a golf cart. Small talk, laughing and a oh hell, why not. We snatched the golf cart, Rick driving we were laughing so hard and of course slightly intoxicated we hadn’t realized we were blowing the guard shack on the wrong side in America, which made us laugh even more as the guard began chasing us. And chased us all the way to a packed beyond packed Brass Ring. As we go down stairs we ran into Savage, Rick Allen is pushing and trying to quiet everyone, finally saying to Savage in the best of British accent... “Scuse me, gotta tell a story!” Enters the guard who knows me and wants our hides. We had stolen the cart. I thought I’d lose my job... I didn’t.. Savage saved us both with his smooth talking and promise of us returning the cart immediately. Which we did and the guard gave us a ride back to the ring. Long story I know, but damn that was fun and funny.. circa 1989
Thanks for having us 🤘
that was a great interview! I remember wearing the hell out of that union jack concert tee from the 80's!
I just remember blasting this as a kid and my mom thought the lyric was "break the bible break it up" and she thought you guys were satanic and said I couldn't listen anymore. LOL
Tell me something about your guitarsounds on this video ...AWESOME! Amps? Kemper? Helix? Tell my please.
Love you guys! Grew up with your music! Wish you all word tour again!
You guys still sound amazing!
Just the fact that they kept Rick Allen as their drummer after his accident makes them a legend in music and as men of honor.
decent take, but i guarantee if he was unable to play, or his playing wasn’t up to par, he would have been kicked out. respect to him because he still sounds great
Abusive fuk knows how to beat a women with one arm still.
I do not see that as a big deal. In fact it isn't.
That's the true meaning of a band
@@mattshank8155 disagree they were a brotherhood...led zeppelin finished when bonzo died
First artists I've seen using the new fender acoustasonic
Yeah... But here it sounds like nothing 🤔😢
That's literally why I clicked on this video lol
Luke Cowley I gotta wonder if it not a paid endorsement.
Yes, for good reason - they're awful lol
Luke Cowley that’s what i was gonna say. probably because it’s an average guitar and stupid experience lol
Damn, i didn’t know the back up vocals were honestly so legit. Always assumed it was studio trickery. I’m a moron.
Dude still has his voice, unlike some other 80s rockers.
Axl, if he’s on...which recently has been like 80% of the time....is still killing it
Love these guys....alot of class
I saw them live with poison and Tesla, joe Elliot is still amazing live. However i personally think Tesla took the cake in terms of vocals.
As the male voicebox gets older it tends to go lower in pitch. Some of those old 80's bands should try growing up and tuning DOWN. :-P
bRUCE DICKENSON PUTS THEM ALL TO SHAME. sorry for the caps. But great job regardless
Whoever does the sound in Howard's studios for the bands deserves a medal!...
Scott Lee Clayton fuck yeah they do!
What a tune
If anyone doubts their live vocals, listen to this. They have always prided themselves on their LIVE vocals and they always deliver.
Even 20-30 years ago people thought Leppard were using triggered samples for live vocals.
Never the case, they just sounded too good to be real.
darklordlc they have slight auto tune/pitch correction on their mics.
Great band!!
Seen them twice in Grand Rapids, MI. Both awesome shows.
darklordlc In 2016 joe had some questionable moments where if he was lip syncing or not
I don't usually like stripped down versions of songs but this was so good.
Check out Corgan playing 1979 on Stern.
I think the only thing I didn’t care for was the distortion (at least for a more stripped down version of the song.)
Hardly stripped down when the two guitarists are still shredding on electric guitars. Granted no actual drums but yeah. I was surprised
This is barely stripped down tho the only difference is a shaker instead of drums. Don’t get me wrong it’s great but the poor drummer is probably bored to death.
That was GREAT!
Rick looks bored as hell with that shaker, lol.
He actually looks awesome!! very handsome! :)
They could have done another song. 2 steps behind.
Yet without him the song wouldn’t had been what is.
Arm must get tired
He should get those tambourines and shakers you can strap to your feet
My lord they have no business sounding that good in 2019... amazing performance
I was expecting an entirely acoustic version. I'm glad they blended the unplugged acoustic vibe with the electronic guitar and bass. It worked out well.
Artstar2 Imagine if it started like this and then after the first chorus it went full rock mode with Rick’s drums. That would be heaven.
There's an entirely acoustic version they preformed for Howard in 1999 that you can also find on the channel
HOLY HELL! They still got it! This is how a band should sound live not like these studio artist today.
Dylan Germino you should see them in concert..awesome
Howard must have a great studio sound for bands like this. It seems anytime I hear a band on his show recently they always sound very good.
Have you heard any modern artist live?
You're listening to the wrong music of today. Tons of great artists out there... open your eyes.

I’m blown away with how good they still are. So good
He cant sing anymore tho
Their vocals are seriously incredible. They emulate the studio background vocals so well without using tapes.
I wasn't expecting this, jesus christ they've still got it!
I wasnt expecting howard with jerry curls
blindsidedka just saw them live this past Friday. Unreal how they sound so good!
And this is why I love Def Leopard. 🇬🇧
I think most people overlook just how important the whole band’s vocals are integral to their sound, and they still sound like Def Leppard. Cool.
I've always thought that too.
God they sound just as good as they did in the 80s, incredible musicians.
Mutt Lang puts his pants on one leg at a time just like everyone else, but when his pants are on, he makes gold records
Heyemeyohsts and he didn’t even need cowbell!
Rick Allen puts his t-shirts on one arm at a time.
Heyemeyohsts actually they are platinum but I see what you did there and I like it.
These guys still sound amazing... Especially impressed with lead vocals since he's up their in age. When you listen to the old album cuts, keep in mind they never sounded like the album cut exactly live. Every band member still brings their A game and still has thir shit together. Amazing band.
I’ve never listened to def leppard before, I just clicked on this because I was surprised to see someone playing an acoustasonic
They still sound badass as always.
One of the only bands who can still get up and play today and still sound pretty sharp. Can’t say that for many others
In this world of digital wizardry, it's wonderful to see a real band do their stuff, live, with no trickery, and one only has one arm, in a live studio and still sound like the record!!! Respect!!!

Haha! At the end when Howard tells them, "You're on to something!" :)
When this song came out....MTV would play it at least 12 times a day🎸🎶🎤🥁

Lol I love how phil and viv look at each other when they realize they're out of sync... and then phil takes off
Great version of this song! Love the stripped down sound that still has the ripping guitars. This band had the best guitar tone of them all!
It’s mesmerizing to watch and listen to how Phil and Vivian so perfectly and professionally interweave their guitar playing.
I love def Leppard. These guy's are classy and talented. They don't fight. they don't argue, they get along and they actually love their fans.
Love that Viv Campbell outro. Tasteful choice of notes. Juicy as hell.
Round of applause, brilliant flawless rock song ,happy days

I still get goosebumps because they’re such a great band.
Listen to Joe Elliott's voice. And now, think about this: He's 59 years old.
It's decent here, but most of their lives stuff is total shit. There are singers much older than him that sound way better.
Eric Kleefeld he’s like a fine wine. He gets better with age
Eric Kleefeld I drooled over this man at Orange County Speedway in Hudson Valley NY in 1987 and Im still drooling over him and his voice in 2019.
Eric Kleefeld he sounds like shit dude ..
59 isn't that old. Your voice is still fairly intact if you took care of it at that age. Now let's check back in 10-15 years and see how it is. Lol
Thank you for still touring staying together and playing the hits. We don't have many 80's groups left....
Man this band is still awesome. Loved them since the 80’s.

Absolutely amazing. Talent at its finest. Also boggles my mind how down to earth they are.
Cool to see these old-timers still enthusiastic about even their biggest hits. Howard always brings out that energy, it's great :-)

I have to admit it, these guy's still f-ing Rock!🤘🤘 Let's not forget On Through the Night, and High, and Dry!!
LET-IT-GO!!
I stopped listening to music after the 1960's..., and then along came Def Leppard... Loved them.
Damn that was great. They sound absolutely fantastic.
Pour some Acoustasonic on me
for dayyyyyyyzzzzzzzz

Yep. The only thing that really stinks in this jam
Pour 2000 dollars of useless shit on me

Def Leppard is one of the few bands that can perform their songs live and actually have a better quality
Wow that was bloody brilliant. So glad these guys have still got it. Fantastic performance.

@@pauli6043 Yea of course. Don't think there may be a middle ground between an egg shaker and a full drum kit?
