@XpycT The A7ii is better for the money in the USA, where it 30% cheaper than it is for you. The Z5 will be a better camera but, again in the USA, it is $400 more expensive. When you add in the cost of basic prime lenses the Z5 ends up being at least $1000 more for a starter kit.

I bought the Nikon Z5 specifically for the second card slot and it to be my main camera body for weddings next to my Z6. And I’m telling you what you cannot tell the difference and photo quality. And as the one guy that responded to your reply right before me know $1600 is not entry level but these new cameras are not cheap anymore like the d3000 & d5000 series. You get a whole Lotta camera for $1300 that will take professional pictures but you can also take professional pictures with the cheaper series cameras also but without the newer features. But I got just the body for $1300 because I already have a couple Z lenses and the FTZ adapter. I was thinking about waiting for the new Z62 but the Z5 does everything I need it to and so does my Z6. I don’t mess with video or shoe sports I do mostly portraits so the Z5 is actually a better camera compared to the Z6 with two card slots and amazing image quality

I would choose the 35mm 1.4 for full frames as my most versatile prime pick!
Nikon's have a way of punching way above their weight class. Me and my girl we both bought compact mirrorless full frames. I got the Z5 and she got the A7C. While almost costing twice as much as my Nikon, at least where we live, when we went out for some landscape photography, the Z5 quite surprisingly stood toe to toe and even outclassed the A7C in some aspects. I was overjoyed and she was plain jealous. Plus I feel the Z5 is better built and feels more natural and ergonomic compared to the A7C, not to mention perks like a superior EVF, superior IBIS & weather sealing and 2xUHS-II slots. It was to a point where she asked me If I wanted to swap camera's with her and I said 'FUCK NO!'.
We are getting married, so yeah, I had to swap cameras. The Auto Focus on this A7C is great though.
Wanted to share this story as your reviews helped me pick my camera! Cheers from India!

With 30% higher price it is obvious that the Nikon Z5 is a better camera. What I admire with the Canon RP is that it broke the 1000$ barrier of a new full frame camera. That is very important. Because new full frame cameras were very expensive for the average amateur photographer.
Sony is selling full frame cameras much below 1000$ but these are very old models and their introductory price was over 1700$.
The Nikon Z series has a very short flange distance. With the Techart adapter the Z5 can use e-mount lenses without loosing autofocus.
In case there is a discount of Nikon Z5 during the Black Friday I will switch from e-mount to z mount.

Evan Payton First of all there is no Sony camera with double memory slots with a lower price than that of Nikon Z5. Also Sony never launched a full frame camera with an introductory price below 1700$. While the introductory price of Canon RP was around 1000$ and that of Nikon Z5 around 1300$.
The Sony a7 of 2013 and a7II of 2014 are cheaper nowadays than Nikon Z5 but have inferior image sensors. Just check DXOmark comparisons.
At the end it is all about money. Otherwise everyone would buy the Sony a7R IV or the Sony A7S III or medium format mirrorless cameras. For its money the Nikon Z5 is great for amateurs.

Mee to: it might not sound like "a lot" but the RP is like 50% cheaper here in Europe and, as anyone who tired it can tell, the FTZ adapter SUCKS in a majestic way, while the EF to R is simply perfect. Looks like Nikon enjoys to shoot itself in the feet!
I'd be interested in the third part EF to Z adapter which I heard is almost like using native glasses and certain works better then the FTZ, but that would raise the price of the Z5 to R6 levels and that's nonsense.
In the end, if you have AF-S lenses to play with, the Z5 is a very good choice, but for any other user...
Well, Nikon is not the safest future proof decision I'd make...
Simply because of this I think that, despite being technically inferior (but also 2 years older), the RP is still the better choice fort the casual user, while for prosumer and professionals, well, look elsewhere in both cases.

If someone is using a camera for you tube content creation, I would still go with the Nikon Z5 as it wins over so many categories compared to RP. For indoors just add a small 5 inch monitor to check yourself for self vlogging or simply use the free phone app to connect the camera for vlogs. I would still pick this camera over a R10 that just came out. The Z5 is also a recommended camera for the small Zhiyun Crane M3 Handheld 3-Axis Stabilizer Gimbal. For a budget cam, and delivering pro quality photo and HD video (or 4K cropped) with in camera IBIS, Z5 is still hands down the winner at this price point for body.

Good review! Love the sparkles Jordan!! You guys sold out! Filming on the SONY, comparison review between Nikon & Cannon, what's up with that? Panasonic also has a all new entry level FF camera that's better than is better than both these combined, with the exception of AF. Although a bit more expensive at launch, I'm sure you will be doing new comparisons once you have your hands on one.

When I look at reviews initially I was considering the Z5, but checking on the price around here, it's straight out of the equation. The price gap is enormous. Yes the Z5 is the least expensive in Nikon FF mirrorless line-up, but it offers much more capabilities that sellers priced it as much as the EOS R (which I can agree on tbh).

Interesting comparison. My question is what is better for basic fire scene documentation? Everything I deal with is just a burned black room. I use a Nikon D7000 and can usually get the image I want, but it weighs a ton and I do alot of shoot and move. Looking for a lighter durable camera that can get the detail and depth of field from a pile of burned fire debris without switching constantly to multiple different lenses. Any edge on one of these cameras, or others to consider for this type of work?

I disagree with a lot of this... now before you label me a "canon" lover just hold up. I am a canon shooter originally but I've used all brands. I found the RP to be a slick little camera. The autofocus was amazing along with the image quality I didn't really see any of the flaws that were mentioned here. Also last review when the RP first dropped I was told the dynamic range wasn't good on the RP and that turned out not to be true when I went out and used it for my landscape shoot. The only thing that sucks with the RP is the 4k crop and loss of dual pixel AND that viewfinder is trash. Other than that I might be getting an RP because I found it more than capable and a nice addition to my arsenal.

12-2021 UPDATE - I sold my EOS RP this week after 2 years and 9 months of owning it. In my view it really didn't do anything very well, and the video performance was dismal. There are so many better options out there now at this price point, including ones with a smaller sensor. Sadly, after this experience, I'm no longer a Canon fan.

It is good to see Nikon Z6 II and Canon with R6 out be competitive cameras to the Sony A7 III. These cameras are similar enough that the Nikon and Canon will keep most of the legacy DSLR shooters that have not already switched to Sony. The ability to adapt the their DSLR glass the new Mirrorless bodies will hold them into that system. It will be interesting to see what else Nikon and Canon release in this lower price range. Sony is not competing here, the A7 II is too old and quirky.

Nikon wins for lenses. You even explained why in your video! These are entry level full frame cameras, so most people buying them are not interested in $2000+ pro lenses. Nikon has a much better lens selection for those on a more limited budget, plus the awesome 24-200 mm.

RP was born a year earlier, it was design to appeal entry level FF 2019, today brandnew price is 300 USD$ below the Z5, as mentioned above, if 300 USD$ just too big to spend more, then RP is the way for a new FF, but if 300 USD$ just okay, we will get a bunch more in Z5 as the King for brandnew Entry Level FF of 2020 (so far).

I always thought IBIS wouldn’t actually be THAT useful, so I can shoot at a slightly slower shutter speed, big deal ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ but in practice it’s a massive feature. If you’re shooting in low light it allows you to get shots that you simply wouldn’t be able to without it.

Yes, having shot Olympus m43 for 8 years or so, I could never adapt to a camera without it. Tripod is used for long exposure night shots... ie. almost never. Every other low light or indoor is easy hand held.

Hi, I congratulate you and always follow you on your channel.
At the moment I have a g9 with Leica 12-60 and Sigma 56mm 1.4 but the feeling did not take place as it had happened with the X-t2 + 16mm1.4 I had. and many times I leave my current camera at home. I'm looking for a camera body (better if it has a built-in flash to immortalize my daughter in motion) and above all a compact and bright all-round lens for environmental and pseudo-macro portraits if I were to do a photo shoot with some friend / relative.
I started aiming for the Fuji x-s10 / x-t3 but currently there is no compact lens that can come close to the coupled Canon RP + 35mm 1.8 macros that have a higher file resolution than both JPEG and raw fuji (see attachment ) unfortunately in print I do not know and maybe you can give me a tip about it.I found an offer: Nikon z50 16-50 + 50-250 for just over 1000 euros and maybe adding the 35mm 1.8 S, but I am also intrigued by the Z5 which has a higher recovery / potential than the entire mirrorless line under 2000 € (see attachment). amateur v-log videos? I would like to take the Canon RP but not having a non-ISO variant sensor I would not know how to deal with the noise during shooting but also the maximum recovery of the files in post production working files are underexposed.
    I thank you in advance.

Found an edge case where Z5's animal eye AF didn't work: Dalmatians. Z5 with the 24-50 kit lens, latest firmware. Set to wide area AF and AFC, and the eye AF point (yellow box) just jumped around all the black spots on my friend's Dalmatian looking for the eyes. Tried it with Tamron 24-70 G2 on the FTZ, no difference. Switched to human eye/face AF, also no help. Anyone with a Sony or a Canon AND a Dalmatian that can share their experience with those systems' animal eye AF? Thanks.
